  1. Hey CGP world..... Wanted to see if anyone knows about a preview show in the Dayton area on Wednesday night before prelims? Im getting in Wednesday and want to fill up some time.
  2. Not all staffs but most!!! It's people trying to solve the worlds problems in like 4-6.5minutes. The biggest dissappointment is that World Guards have lost the most excitement. Not all but some. The Big chills as you say have gone away, because mostly guards that have done that recently don't place as high as they should. The fact is WGI makes people walk away scratching their heads. There are a lot of shows that are still exciting if I were you I would watch Independant open. Last year at semi-finals I had a lot of chills!!!
  3. As with the times things have grown to be more liberal. It's just the simple fact that our activity has gotten to a point where people are running out of innovative material. I think if anyone steps across a line it shouldn't be censored. There are many stereotypes involved with winter guard, it's just a shame that we have to analyze it to a point where we throw stones and persecute those that do something different. How about Northmont when they hung a girl? Was that censored? Now as a matter of fact it is a fan favorite... Makes you wonder why we are discussing this when a High School does that. Don't get me wrong I loved that show, but I also love the rich history of this activity. Maybe some should wonder more where our creativity has gone. Because I look forward to seeing something new.... Not just the same old material.
  4. This maybe true, and is disputable! However innovation/creativity should never be questioned as it art!!!!
  5. Guys I feel this is rather unfair! It wouldn't be the first year someone has done a show not everybody appreciated. But yet WGI is called "the sport of the arts". So therefore people create shows like this.... It is creative! In your eyes you may see it differently. I suppose trying to change the activity years ago with a variety of dance wasn't frowned upon? Now look where the activity has gone! A lot less guards coming to Dayton! So don't persecute the risk takers!
  6. Here is who I would like to see in finals!!! SA. Somerville, Andy Dekaney, Lincoln Way, Greater Johnstown, Bellbrook, Mineola, Jamestown, Lyman, Taravella, Ben Davis, Apopka IA. Luminosa, Impact Independant, Phoenix Independant, Patriots, This is all I have thus far, but yet the competition in both A and SA will be really intense. Prelims for these two classes is when the judges earn their money in Dayton.
  7. I have seen Phoenix this year, which in my mind is a could be finalist show. Central Squares show which I have not seen must be great seeing as though they have been scoring significantly higher all year long than Phoenix. Too bad for the kids.....winning the circuit is great though, WGI Finalists would be even better though.
  8. Why in the HECK is Central Square not going to Dayton?
  9. Not good for any of the performers involved.
  10. I hear that there was music problems with several guards at this show. Does anybody know what happened or did affect any shows?
  11. I am certain this will be the toughest class for judges to get right. There is about 30 Guards that can make finals in this class. I am not sure it is the most talented SA of all time, but it is defintily strong from about 30th to 1st.
  12. I am pretty sure that the top 8 out of each round will make semi's. There are 4 rounds of IA and 32 will advance to semis. I think?
  13. I am sorry to shoot off the cuff on my comments about guard buzz. I was just trying to open up the hope for some that might think they are already out of it for Dayton. If judges go off this site as dugg says...then there is something definitly wrong with your opinion as well. I am not sure why you would think this is ok. Very contradicting of comments this site and guard buzz site eludes to.
  14. I dont think this site (guard buzz) is the right answer to anyones questions. Even though it sparks alot of curiousity, guards should not feel that are only worth 1.5 pts a week anymore. We all have seen in IA this year guards scores change in one day regionals upwards to 3 pts. Take Delazure for instance, they were ranked somewhere in the 30's last week. After a strong showing in last weeks South Brunswick Regional they are now ranked 13th. So nevertheless, if these rankings hold true, guards that have taken early regionals this year will not stand a chance? I feel judges should throw out any sort of ranking system and do their job. Too much time is put into many great shows by the kids and instructors for some guy or girl to give an opinion someone else gave two or three weeks ago. I know this my sound like blastfamine to some......but it think it may be true. Moral of my story I think everyone has a shot
  15. I know right!!!!!! I enjoyed that show so much...(Northmont) it seems like it was just yesterday!
  16. I remember a few years ago....Northmont hung a girl!!!!!. Great crowd reaction to that. So if people cant stand up for a Jesus flag. We are all going to HELL!!!
  17. At this point I don't feel that there is any guard that is a clear cut favorite for anything. Only guards that possibly have better odds are anyone that has won a regional, (but that is not always the case either). I bet with the scoring problems from this year that there are guards that will pass the" favorites" up once semifinals conclude. The fact is, there is no guards this year that has been able to solidify the so called " top 15" . So I tend to side with ATX.....I think there will be alot of upsets this year. Once everyone is on the same playing field things will be different.
  18. Well Lynne that is nice to know. I am hopeful that does not discourage them to keep trying. Like I said before, their instructors and or director need to rethink their stance within the organization for the better of the performers.
  19. Guys, In all fairness you have to feel bad for these kids, as it doesn't seem to be their fault. Going to WGI for the "experience " and experiencing this is not something their staff and High School should of let them do. Obviously they new what they were going to get as far as score is concerned. But this is not the first time this has happened anyways. There are guards out there all over the country that just don't have what it takes. But, never blame the kids...it is the staff that usually doesn't have the experience. It is a shame!!!!!!!! Instructor needed for Pearl River?
  20. My reasoning for starting this discussion a couple of weeks ago was based on a guard from the Rochester Regional that was first in IA class prelims by 3.6pts. In Finals with a pretty good performance, took second by almost a point. The next week they go to Dayton and perform fairly early in IA prelims and score a 68 something. They were about 6pts out of finals. Since then I have tracked this guard within scores from the Northeast Colorguard Circuit. As of last night (2 weeks later) they are at 80.9. I know circuit to WGI things are different, but I am sure they are being tastfully critiqued within their own circuit as well. I guess my point is, I do agree timing is everything. Going on early shouldn't make a difference but it does..I do believe also judges should hold true to other judges within WGI's opinion. I think everyone is quick to assume that circuit scores can never marry up to the expertise you see at WGI...but at least you see some consistency. Fairborn's program for me is tough to read. As I am a big fan of weapons in winterguard. I do feel that what they do is tasty..but I hesitate based on I feel they are not using weapons for a reason. Are they even going to WGI Championships?....it might give you your answer,
  21. Actually I think there needs to be more accuracy within the scoring. Circuit to WGI for instance? Why do guards go to regionals and get dumped? The following week at Circuit shows see a couple WGI judges and scores start to soar again. There needs to be more accuracy. More emphasis on creativity and performace... than this person works with this guard so we need to do this? Nobody in this forum can deny that this is the case from time to time. If you do, you must be that director, instructor or performer that benefits from the name game. It is all (BS), and totally unfair to the performers that go out and give their all on a weekly basis. It is said to say....but does anybody remember the tick system?
  22. I think the debate can be taken many ways. We have too many guards that are placed in the wrong classes. And some attempt this on their own accord just for the love of the sport. (Which is great) But it comes down to those guards who take those risks every year and are upset and try to blame the activity. It is simple there are 6 different classes in which to participate, on three different sheets. Instructors and WGI officials should look into this because it could crumble the activity because performers think they cant compete with the Flanagans and the Fantasias of the sport. They are just in the wrong classes. That is why I feel for the next few years WGI should only promote top three finalists in Independant A and Open. For the Scholastic Guards, they should be able to petition WGI based on group experience (after seniors) and the use of feeder programs within their organization. If the program appears strong to WGI they get moved..if not they stay. Also if WGI can promote Guards why cant they demote them as well?
