  1. It allows the corps and DCI to use the audio and visual images created by the member, enforces sexual harrassment and drug policies, lays out the rules that corps may have, and makes a binding agreement that you'll pay all your fees. It just protects the member and the corps from any legal issues that can happen while on corps. Its good to have nowadays with everyone stepping on eggshells in whatever do they do...
  2. If it was marketed correctly I'm sure I could get a bunch of non-affiliated people to come this TOC show. I think drum corps about as entertaining as a B rated movie for "regular" people so I'm sure "SOME" people would go... :P
  3. Not a single word of that is true! Reread the ad again and try to understand it CORRECTLY.
  4. Oh dear... now you really had to go there? Really? You've opened quite the can of worms... And why is that NOT okay? How is that distastefull in ANY way?! Kids have minds and they get to decide what corps to audtion for and whether or not they would like to march cadets. Yes, this does blatantly "target" other corps' auditionees but that's their demographic!!!! That's what every corps tries to appeal to!!!! They don't want people who have never done drum corps... they want people who have experience!! (just like any other recruiting organization). This is letting people know that the CADETS are "looking" for new people. Thats it. And in a capitalist society money speaks louder than saying "hey, you can come still audition for the cadets." Your comment is very troubling to me and makes me go... They are not "compensating them to attend". They are offering an incentive to attend and there is nothing wrong with that (morally or ethically) LOL. Maybe they should just offer NO cut in the registration fee. That way college kids can fork up the maximum amount of money to go to an audition camp. (Can I remind you that it's an audition camp? Not a case-closed contract agreement?) And again, the marketing stratagy here is to get people informed about the cadets. And Bam... look its working... right here in this thread. The cadets are still "looking" and the $25.00 is more a statement about how "badly" they want people to come and less a statement about kids saving money when they pay for audition camps. If I'm gonna audition for a corps I'd like to save to money too! No one is gonna say, "Look! The Cadets are offering me 25 bucks! I definetly want to march there". They look at it a read... "Oh, I didn't think I could audition for the cadets after the November Camp and it looks like they 'might' be desperate for some good talent and experienced members..." The related 25$ only indirectly influences the auditionee. For goodness gracious, God almight, There is nothing wrong with this incentive program. Nothing.
  5. Who would refer to their "beloved" as "mortal" but a vampire? It's a vampire show! :P
  6. Well, I figure if non-drum corps fans are looking for some entertainment this would be a possible event to go to. Also, marching band fans from local highschools who have maybe never thought about going to drum corps show could find interest in this "variety" show kind of format. I know it is shame! I feel like DCI and G8 have really thought of good thing with these shows! But the problem is that they are not maxing it out! There should be commercials up the WAZOO for these events. I would sell this event like I would sell tickets to a circus, ice skating show, or monster truck raley. Make people interested in taking an "entertainment risk" (risk because they have never seen it) by going to see a 3 hour show about "marching band". DCI needs to hire some good marketers for sure...
  7. Actually, according to the article, they are offering the discount to people who have a 2011 auditon packet from another corps. That means that you might not even have experience marching just audition experience! right?!
  8. GASP! I figured someone on here would be able to figure this out based on the distances he had to travel! :P
  9. As I remember it I think the cadets also did similar campaigns last year. And thats when there were 91 age outs... so who really knows what the situation is down in Allentown.
  10. I know I'll never know but I am curious who Corps A and Corps B are...
  11. sure! Money is huge factor why people can't march nowadays.
  12. It's amazing how perfect this piece is for PR. yay! I had chills listening to the last minute the entire time!!!
  13. That's true. But I don't really see this as a cold hearted attempt to get more revenue. Yes, its to get more revenue but not a melicious or back handed way. What this does intice are people who auditioned for another corps and thought that wouldn't be able to audition for a different second corps if they wanted.
  14. The audition camp is good indicator on how the rest of the summer is going to go because things only get "worse" once the stress of summer hits. The corps I auditioned for had a really great audition camp experience and that translated into a great summer experience. If really hated it at Corps A then by all means go to go corps B. you may feel some regret but remember first impressions are everything!
  15. Who is East of Eden by? Can anyone post a recording link so I can take a listen!? Thank you!
  16. That "may" be true but you have to be willing to accept all the different "kind" of love that people like to impose on the activity... The "Dino that is reluctant to accept that things must change" love The "George Hopkin's make this activity survive with woodwinds" love The "Progressive current member who thinks everything is great the way it is" love The "Casual DCI fan who remembers that time they went to Allentown" love The "Angry Dino that hates any combination of the letter G and the number 7 (or 8)" love The "Regular DCI fan thats smart enough to not post on DCP" love The "Regular DCI fan thats smart enough to post on DCP" love The "Regular DCI fan thats smart enough to ignore posts on DCP" love And... I forgot where this was going... oh well... ADD REPLY!
  17. 1. Cavaliers (back in the game?) 2. Cadets (good show idea/design?) 3. Blue Devils (Decides not to bribe the judges?) 4. Bloo (new consistent top 5 but rebuilding year?) 5. Crown (For some reason doesn't win best brass again?) 6. Blue Stars (Last year's staff changes get a chance to settle?) 7. SCV (Percussion *might* be better?) 8. Boston (Probably deserves higher placement?) 9. Phantom (Percussion a sore spot?) 10. Madison Scouts (Stagnate for the time being?) 11. Glassmen (???) 12. Crossmen (because I'm a dreamer?) Top 10 corps break 90?! Top 5 are all within 2 points?!
  18. Can I just say... this poster... is way better than last years poster... By a million miles.
  19. I'll just make the thread before they anounce their show idea tonight! (Is it so wrong that I do that?) Their facebook keeps teasing that they will announce it tonight at sometime! Can't wait to hear what it is!!
