  1. Grass field am I right? Nope, it was turf. No excuse.
  2. And that's probably why a show like this is important honestly... The 3 featured presidents, as revered as they all are, were at one point politically polarizing figures (Is it any wonder why 2 of the three historically revered presidents featured were assasinated?) So maybe we can see the pointlessness of becoming politically charged and touchy about historical presidential quotes... even the more recent historical ones...
  3. Am I supposed to take the fact that the thing you object to is the Obama portion and not find that incredibly predictable? Nothing ongoing is going to change that history... That's kinda the unique about something that is in the past, it can't be changed. I believe all the quotes in the show are from presidential inaugural addresses. And whether or not obama's term is up won't change what he said in his inaugural speech.
  4. Something that happened 6 years ago isn't history?? And all he says in the show is "Simple creed sums up the spirit of a people, Yes we can." And it ties into Reagan saying "We can and Will solve the problems that confront us... we are Americans."
  5. It's not about politics... its about American history.
  6. I kinda agree... but I also think that the way the cadets did it you would have to be crazy to find their presentation offensive politically...

  8. I got a preview last night. Honestly, the show never entirely grabbed me before with the emotional context but the new ending... It's infectiously emotional. I got massive goosebumps and it made me feel optimistic about America! ...and then I read the News. Lol!
  9. Wait did they take away the rock breakdown at the end?? That was so freakin' awesome! Something different than just a loud chord!
  10. If judges won't miss it, change it. If it's an important design component, clean it!
  11. Also isn't it strange that the "angle in the photo" that is supposedly "not good" is at a better height and angle that most people in a stadium will see it at? What gives?
  12. They could be generic faces too I guess to show diversity without having anyone recognizable.
  13. Those pictures look like Oprah and an astronaut with an American flag background.
  14. I'm sorry but are those not legitimate performance techniques to make music? So I don't understand why you would be "beat down" by a performance because of the technical excellence necessary to perform the music.
  15. When does making something about "education" mean it needs to be done NOW and DIRTY???? Education is about being SMART. PERIOD. I hate when people use "education" as reason to have corps actually look and sound worse than they normally would. You are 100% wrong with everything you said.
  16. If you love "drum corps" more than you love "your past with drum corps" then you will love it.
  17. True test of endurance and difficulty... Play the same slow, loud, powerful rendation of Simple Gifts at the end but instead of standing spread out across the field make them run around at double time. (Simple Gifts is a pretty slow tempo). It's practically unpatriotic for Cadets to end a show without fast drill!
  18. Have you listened to the source material for the show? You can't go in and expect the same lyricism in experimental electronic music as you would in a ballet and concert band piece. The Ballad is incredibly lyrical and stays true to the original. The short motifs throughout the rest of the show are also true to the style of the original sources. I think maybe you don't appreciate the musical intent for what it is (not your taste) but it does exemplify what the show was designed to be from the beginning, a motif driven show.
  19. It's really interesting you say this because the designers have said that with this show the Music selections and music design came first before the concept of "tilt" was even discussed.
  20. Well, patriotism has been linked with politics and even specific political parties over the last few years and those are justifiably uncool! lol oh, and the Cadets show is already nearly over time. If they were going to add a tag ending they would need to cut out another part of the show. I think a tag ending is all but a pipe dream at this point.
  21. Well, heres how i think it developed. When directors were trying to convince everyone that they wanted to have electronics the last thing they wanted to say is that the live mixing would be done by a student. No one would have passed for electronics if that was the case. They wanted to hear that the show was going to be mixed by professional people to atleast make the transition to electronics bearable for people hoping it would be done at a high level. (this is regardless if you think its being done at a high level or not). And a college student could live mix the performance but it would probably just turn into a designer standing next to him asking him for more/less synth/amplification. If you were going to enforce it then the engineer would have to be visibly isolated with a judge monitoring his actions making sure no outside interaction from staff was present. Otherwise, the rule is moot.
  22. For what it's worth if DCI decided to make it rule that the sound board operator (who's main job would be to change scenes during a show) had to be someone under 22 years old I wouldn't object. But I don't think they should have to pay for the opportunity and it should at the very least be an internship position. That said I think the designer or corps staffer should still be the one in the stands adjusting live levels of the front ensemble/synth to provide the correct and desired balance.
