Shows where the Drum Major stops conducting
skeptic replied to OC Euph's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
2011 Phantom. Though, the side conductors kept conducting. -
They do it in DCA. DCI is a different animal though.
-
No disrespect to DCA but DCI is the right organization to make this happen between the two. They are better known, have a larger fan base, and are more "connected" to the younger audiences. DCA could have made an attempt but I dont think it would have generated as much excitement like it already has with DCI.

Heres another vid of what we might start to see! They have updated their 'About' section since the last time I read it but I recall reading that 1-2 of these guys marched DCI, BD if I am not mistaken? -
Im just going to sit back and enjoy the ride. I cant wait to see what people come up with, with very few restrictions!
-
They are indeed all age. They are pushing for ANYONE to do this!

and the great thing is, become popular through this and grow into a drum corps! Not saying thats how it HAS to be but its a smarter way to start if thats what you WANT to do. -

This has the potential to GROW drum corps. There is a new market we are tapping into here. If DCI is going to be heavily involved in all of this, it could bring in new people through these videos/competitions. I will not say anything negative about it until I see it. I can see Blue Devils, Cadets, Empire Statesmen and SDCA/mini corps utilizing this BIG TIME. How can growing music be a bad thing? -
With the big news release from DCI, I couldnt help but think.... Did the Edge have something to do with this? Maybe Empire had some insider info and this is where they are going? I could be WAY off on this but it seems logical to me.

People who have influenced you?
skeptic replied to BrassMan09's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
Nobody in particular but a certain someones shirts sure have! -
Problem with that is that corps already has uniforms. I dont think its wise to sell off your current uniform if you dont know for sure you will be able to afford the new ones. Look at Bucs... they bought new ones and THEN sold off the old ones to offset costs. There may be a high school out there somewhere looking for new uniforms. The 7 on the uni doesnt even need to be a 7, it just looks like a cool accent so it is applicable to any school with black in their school colors. If Im not mistaken, the 7 is removable/interchangeable with a different color.

It just seems that the whole "evil" gimmick has gone too far. I like to see it on the field, in warm ups, at retreat, etc... but once it starts to show in public press releases, its going too far. Your image needs to stay with the performance, not with the administration. It always seems Renegades have to much emotion and personal opinion involved in what should be official, professional statements. I love the corps, I love the attitude, I love the shows but when it comes to PR... there is work to be done. I really hope to see the corps back at DCA asap. As a collective group, we miss the Gades already.

Sounds like Renegades need to worry more about internal issues than changing their appearance. Sorry to hear this.

2012 DCA Rules Congress - Baltimore, MD
skeptic replied to Glen's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
Drum corps has become more "artsy" in my opinion. I think that is why we have lost fans over the years. Personally, I enjoy watching a show 3-4 times before I fully understand it and catch everything there is to see, but that might just be me. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy shows from the 80s and such too. Drum corps has gotten too complex for some people. More shows like Scouts 2010 need to happen to get older fans back but these artsy/storyline shows need to keep happening to draw in younger fans since thats what they know. -
Not sure why you got a red mark for this, so I fixed it!

Carolina Crown makes a move in the Percussion Dept

Awesome. Time to watch that perc score go up! -
Obviously they will need to come out with a euph and tuba before you will see any drum corps line playing them.

Time for a Revolution in Footwear
skeptic replied to danielray's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Here is the problem.... Everyone has different feet. You cant possibly force a group to wear the same shoe at rehearsal because everyone has specific needs. Its different for show shoes since you are not wearing them nearly as long. Its all about contacting the right person at a company like Nike? Let me know when they actually respond. -
Thanks for the insight, Ron. Sounds like MBI didnt take finishing in 2nd place lightly. C2, Cabs, MBI, Bucs... boy this is going to be fun!
