  1. Of course! But why these three corps??? That's what I'm interested in.
  2. I did eventually check it out, and am now curious as to what corps the young man was referring to...LOL
  3. I have absolutely no idea what "BAMF" means, but I'll look on Google. :-)
  4. This is a question that has been kind nagging at me for a few weeks... My father marched 63-65 Cavies, and dedicated my middle name to The Old Man. My brother (who received no such honor but loved the corps more tham life itself) marched Cavie Cadets in 1983 before joining the "A" Corps the next year and eventually getting his buckle.. "Legacy" stigma aside, yours truly had a few issues with the Green Machine (not the least of which was the "mystique" surrounding initiation), and I ended up with the Blue Devils in 1980, whose confident swagger, kick-a** uniform, jazz style and California girls in shakos and boots had my by the short-and-curlies. I'm extremely interested to know why all us marched with the corps we did, and your responses would be deeply appreciated!!!
  5. Here's a quick question... Does this mean that some kid is going to have to give up his spot? You'd think that everyone was informed pretty recently that they'd made it, right? I hope they had been thinking about this for awhile, at least.
  6. First of all, I think BigDale is gonna have a major issue with your comment about Ohio State, but I'll leave that for him to handle. Secondly, isn't the Illini drumline primarily Cavaliers? At least I think that used to be that case.
  7. For some reason, I feel the need for an addendum here... I was, and remain, exceedingly happy for the years I spent marching with my corps, as did my brother and father, both of whom were initiated Cavaliers and remain immensely proud of that. In fact, my younger brother, now a career soldier on his fifth tour of duty in the war, makes it a point to bring his corps jacket and buckle each time he's deployed. My silly OP was simply meant to reflect the impact that the Madison rifle line had upon me as a kid, so I sincerely hope nobody is under the impression that I somehow wish I had marched somewhere else, cause that darn sure isn't the case. Madison's rifle line was, indeed, the shiz-nit, but I'm much happier with my rings, thank you very much. Just wanted to clear that up...
  8. No dice....the Bridgemen tried that and all they got was a lousy finalist patch.
  9. Troopers drum major?!?!?!? Ohhhhhh, that's a good one!!!!! Seriously, that, or 27th's drum major. Either one woulda been totally t*ts!!!! But seriously, I was raised by a Cavalier FMM rifle, so I learned how to spin an aluminum baseball bat before I ever learned how to do a clean paradiddle or double stroke roll. Thankfully, I succeeded in making so much racket on a stew pot, dad was obliged to buy my a Gladstone pad and a pair of Rob Carson sticks, so I found my niche. But those rifle guys...sheesh....I'd have LOVED that kind of chick worship. I'm just sayin, man......
  10. My father spent 2 years marching Cavalier's rifle line in the mid-60's, but always fantasized about marching snare. My brother spent 3 years marching Cavie's euphonium, but always fantasized about marching soprano with BD. I spent half a summer marching Black Knights on cymbals, and 7 years with BD in the drumline, but could never entirely shake the pipe dream of marching Madison's rifle line in the early 80's. Were we the only ones?????
  11. While I'm far from the most knowledgeable person in the world with regard to drum corps, and I fully expect this thread to disappear into oblivion for lack of participation in the next couple of days, I simply wanted to exploit my ability to post a new topic by asking who you all think the best soprano soloist of all time may have been. For my money, it's North Star's Jerry Noonan. Yeah, this has been done to death, but of course, the entire world revolves around me, so when I find myself playing hookie on a Tuesday, and happen to watch the 1980 Nats, of course I'm going to be so completely self-absorbed that I simply must cop to the brogasm that accompanied Jerry's performance in Birmingham that night. Flame away, cause Jerry and I have an appointment with that Porsche dealer. The old guy needs a ride befitting his status.
  12. Hey, a little OT, but some cray cat posted a pic of an old-school Chicago Cavaliers jacket on Twitter. It immediately brought to mind my old man's Cavie jacket, and this really #####in Cavaliers letterman sweater. I'm trying to tell my Phan GF about them, but I can't find a picture of one anywhere. A little help, maybe? Danke schoen and all that happy-crappy.
  13. If I see you at Minneapolis, the first keg is on me, Gear-head. Or seniors dinner at the Golden Skilllet, which ever is more age-appropriate for you.
  14. You are WAAAAAAYYYYY too old to know Mars Volta music, Boo-man.... But since you're a buckle-holder and Keeper of the Splooie Secret, mega-kudos and some raisin pie for knowing it all the same.
  15. I completely agree, and for some reason, am reminded of that awesome scene in "Remember the Titans," when the offense kid tried sitting at the DEFENSE'S table... The drum bus is for the drummers. Period. except for the guard chicks with McDonald's gift cards and unlimited date plans and minutes on their cell phones...
  16. NO WAY!!!!!!! TMV is terrific, but I must insist that Maynard and TOOL get first crack at a show!!!! We now return to our previously-scheduled thread, and beg your forgiveness...
  17. And if you sit next to a female and she brings and empty gallon milk jug on the bus, don't ask any questions ask her to marry you. FIFY, Boo.
