  1. there's no wendy's here anymore. There's tucker's though.. and the popcorn stand is still going, too.
  2. I agree, people here are very nice.. but coming from the west coast, I thought people in Chicago were really nice too (and they are!)... not sure they would mow my lawn or snowblow my walk for me like they do up here every once in a while.. but they are very nice. I've lived here two years and I have no geographic clue where I am in comparison to almost every other town around me. I know where Madison is. I know where Milwaukee is and I know where Appleton and Green Bay are. That's it.
  3. AMEN.. just not a fan of the "fry" in general.
  4. yes FDL County Fair starts in about a week and a half.. I'm only a few blocks away so my whole house will smell like deep fried fried things for a week.. curds, funnel cakes, twinkies, corndogs, pickles, snickers.. ugh.. the thought of it makes me a little nauseous.. it's fine ONCE.. but not for a week.. but there's a culvers about three minutes from me... I'll buy you a butter burger next time you're in town!
  5. it should disturb me that we think so much alike, shouldn't it?
  6. I live here (Wisconsin) now.. you people use too much mayonnaise in EVERYTHING.
  7. what kind of excuse is that?? Where are your PRIORITIES, MAN??
  8. Please come find me! I'd love to finally say hello in person!
  9. I'm on thru Atlanta so til Aug 1. Sewing & stuff.
  10. Not sure.. Michael Gaines had it on his FB today and the corps tweeted it, too. I squeeed. :) A lot of FMMs commented to the "new guys" to (and I quote) "pray for death" Should be an interesting summer. I'll be getting on in either Houston or San Antonio.. I'll know more then.
  11. actually.. they got some old visual people (or specifically, person..though I'm not calling him old).. and he just got there, not sure he's had much impact on what you're seeing tonight.. but yes.. love the mad flags :)
  12. I think it's because on any given night, especially at this point in the season, corps within two points of each other COULD change places. just my opinion, too. Stef
  13. No, I might consider someone relevant who made a pronouncement like his AFTER hearing a note or two.. from where I was sitting, it seemed my determination of his lack of relevance was supported by the crowd who didn't support HIM.. even though he said it about the Scouts AT their HOME SHOW. it's just a review, dude. Opinions only. have a great season! Stef
  14. It really is kind of sad to see how very anxious some folks are to "get the dirt" on someone based on a supposition or suspicion they personally have.. even when there just isn't any. Seriously, guys. Do you have nothing better to do than infer "dirty laundry" based on some "knowledge" you obviously don't have? Isn't it drum corps season? Can't you go drive a bus or stir some kool-aid or something? Stef
  15. Taller, slimmer forms on the field look better -- that's just an aesthetic truth. Uniforms have long been designed to fool the viewer's eye into believing the people wearing them are slender, statuesque ... and identical (for example, how tall was your plume "back in the day?" I'm pretty sure the average now is more than 12" .. look at Cadets, Crown, Blue Devils... etc.) I doubt that corps are looking at how tall a person is when deciding where they'll stand in the line or even if they'll make the corps. I am certain that the exception would be, naturally, if a potential member is overweight. That has to be a serious consideration as it can pose serious health issues and that member would be an injury/liability risk.
  16. I'm glad I kept reading -- I was going to recommend the exact same thing. Jeff doesn't shy away from questions and is honest and diplomatic (sometimes even a little wryly sarcastic) in his responses. It's part of the guy's charm ... and yes, if you're an alum, he'll probably invite you to come around and see for yourself.. after all, the best way to retain the relevance of Vanguard's history in the eyes of its current members is to have some of it actually participate in the current process. The OP said, "SCV Alumni have been waiting for SCV to rise back to the top" (not an exact quote but as close as I could remember).. IMO, therein lies the problem. Too often, alumni want to be impressed.. to pass the torch and they forget that sometimes the torch needs fuel and re-lighting. Your alumni status comes with more than a right to an opinion about your former corps.. have that, sure.. but back it up with deeds. Think about it. See you on tour! Stef
  17. Enjoyed your review -- balanced and honest.. thank you! Stef
  18. now now.. everybody knows there's no truth to that urban legend..
  19. I know at least two of the judges there last night have seen the majority of these corps before during this season - not sure about the rest.. so is it an anomaly that a judge who's seen them before may increase their score (even though they probably didn't judge the same caption) if they saw considerable improvement? Just sayin. Stef
  20. keep talkin.. because NEXT year....
