  1. The '74 World Open and '75 DCI East were in the same stadium. Marched '74, attended '75. Believe it was Cawley. With the "revival show" going on at the same time in the tent outside the stadium. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Cawley+Memorial+Stadium&id=7138AF086D002F730F72E419912C279321473185&FORM=IQFRBA#view=detail&id=2C88D4D8C4E3A5CEFB2DCD2700BBF28D2BD6439D&selectedIndex=31
  2. Racine, 1972. Great night of D&B. http://www.drumcorpsworld.com/ocstore/site/product.cfm?id=28099158-7A65-4752-84CAAC4BE63D483F
  3. Hey Leeeeeeo, oh Leo. Happy Birthday (belated)!!! Regarding that "no class" comment: Two Seven and Boston sharing the field and a tune? Not in our day, huh? 40 years ago, Leo. We kicked it off! And you don't look a day over 57. Hope you had a good one.
  4. And to Drum O. You were, as always, invited to join us last night. Just because I didn't think to contact you this year doesn't me you're not still considered "one of us". The "boys' would have enjoyed seeing you there.
  5. Jimmy, don't ever feel compelled to defend or explain yourself or the corps to anyone. I was in the Venice last night. Anyone could have walked up and asked Claire or Bigga Boy what happened. But they would have missed out on the fun it was to be with the '71 drum line. The reason I go every year. Want to talk about scandal? Try the '72 Jersey Invitational in Garfield. More corps members were in street clothes, on the track in front of their corps during retreat, than in the ranks. Because it was rumored that Mrs. B was going to put an end to age abuse once and for all. It was just the way it was, all corps included. And we all laugh about it now. Go Giants!
  6. I remember seeing the Bridgemen with some crazy contraption that looked like metal straps with counterweights on the back...they looked heavy as ____! We started the 1971 season, the first year we used tympani, with 3 straps. Two crossed and one around our waist. I believe it was a Skyliner member that made the aluminum harnesses with the tubular counterweights for us. We used them for the first time at a Friday night show in Bed-Sty, Brooklyn (Wynn Center?, Mother Carter?) They would continue to be used by the Bridgemen after St. Andrew's was gone. Very heavy without the drum. Still have a mark on my left shoulder from wearing it. No snare drummer stripe for us, we had to keep our shirts on during day time drill practice. Although it was simple in design, and adjustable, I would have preferred staying with the straps and leg rest. Especially for parades.
  7. "A Time for Us". We played it in '70. And "Hallelujah". Just a great tune.
