  1. I believe we are begining to feel "at home" in Scranton. Thanks Jeff for your support, and also to all the great DCA fans.....we do it for you. This was a great year.
  2. ya see......?! there i go inventing another new drum corps term...... :P acctually, i was reffering to the person responsible for the release.... ^0^ but, that works too!
  3. Highschool- i used a Shilke 13A4a Blue Devils 84,85,86- i used a CG 3s Renegades 2000- i used a Yamaha 14A4a Renegades 2001-2002- i used a Monette MFII, i figured that this would be the one i would be on for a long while....NOT! after the 2002 season i decided to try the Prana MFII, i've been on it since Nov. and I am now trying to sell my regular MFII My tone quality, intonation, range, consistency, endurance, and confidence have all improved dramatically since i've been playing on Monette mouthpieces. And all by way of using LESS effort. and no, this lead mouthpiece will not give you an 'airy' type of sound in the lower registers like a lot of the other lead pieces will. you can still achieve a nice round low sound. and yes, it is worth EVERY PENNY! the best part===knowing that there is still much more come. 'just do it...........'
  4. i clean it every time i play...........
  5. i agree with this theory........ i would guess that most french horn players prefer NOT to play a drum corps 'french horn'. it probably doesn't compare to the real thing. but mostly i think they care about their chops. probably the hardest brass instrument to play IMO. i know i can't play the darn thing! :P
  6. i've already seen them...... ^0^
  7. oh.........WEAK!!!!!!!!!! B)
  8. i actually think that the 1984 guard was one of the best i've ever seen. they made it look effortless. not sure who won guard that year........spirit? bd?
  9. a very serious 'head rush' anyone who's ever screamed out a 14 count D above double high C, and trills it to an F, knows the feeling. I don't. close, I've had to 'one knee it' a few times, or lean on a fellow horn player, but I never went down. he's young, and he promises he'll never hold it out longer than 8 counts again....... the concert ended literally less than 30 seconds after he stood back up. after asking him many times "are you ok....do you feel ok" he kept replying in a sensible manner, "ya.....I'm alright". a little shaken and understandably embarrassed, he stood back up. I told him "don't even try to play another note". he didn't. I played 2 or 3, and the show ended. we left the field. I do believe at some point along the way, he was checked out. he was back at rehearsal the next day. funny, the same exact thing happened to me at my wedding 12 years ago.....the ring bearer locked his knee's and passed out at the alter. my best man Steve Bentley, caught him and guided him carefully 'backstage' until he could re-compose himself, and then returned to the alter and finished the gig. it's all on video. well folks, our sop player is ok. he'll be back for more...... it could be more serious than it looks, and we need to be extra careful. rich d. evil soprano... the guy that was standing right next him....and felt the ground shake. :o
  10. dude.......you are not allowed to comment on the volume of the mello's, until you are in the line. BAD ROB! now...put the wine glass down and get to rehearsal!! think about it Rob, there are only 25 more days left on the renegades schedule. you could do it. though....you would have to play soprano at this point. get your foot in the door for next year.
  11. no need to tell me that........ my ears are damaged from marching in front of him in 84'. the hault in Latin Implosion, OMG. rich d. ouch.
  12. sorry...., all west coast guys. that's where i'm from. please feel free to add names and stories. my vote: Phil Olds.......no doubt. Rob.....you were a pretty close 2nd!(and Rob weighs about 300 lbs less than Phil.) :o)
  13. hey pooh bear....i marched 3 years with Beth, not really a screamer on the soprano, but a great trumpet player, well schooled. and Diane Fashing was the other gal that solo'd in C1S. Diane was more of a screamer. i think she played the written double C's that year. when are we gonna see you this year? we need to have some 'quality' time.
  14. Whoa there! we're just out to have some fun. if we beat anybody, well, so be it. but the fun, and the fans are the most important thing. i didn't know you guys were going to do I&E's........awesome!!!! :) :)
  15. in jr corps (BD-early 80's), the whole sop line used CG's of some type. i used a CG3s, with a two valve King. in renegades, in 2000, i played the Yamaha 14A4a-gp, with a 2-valve King sop. in 2001, i switched over to the Maynard Ferguson model Monette, the MF-II, and also switched horns to the Kanstul Classic. in 2002, it's the MF-II, and a new Kanstul Powerbore. there's about 4-5 of this same combination in our soprano line this year, and most of the rest of the leads are playing on a Monette of some type. works well outdoors. i only play in drum corps. ]:-)
