  1. I am coming from the East (Bay) but will not be bringing anything other than my Tasty Chops.
  2. I missed the opportunity to march Div I too. Helping start the Renegades was in part to scratch that "itch". Mission accomplished in a huge way, as our 2003 DCA Finals performance gave me the taste of what it must be like to march Div I. Then I topped that in 2005 when I got to march with some awesome talent in the snare line: Thom Shearer (Spartans of NH), Earl Brown (Freelancers), Scott Kubitz (BD), Mike French (BD/SCV), Dennis Mancini (SCV), Scott Slater (Valley Fever), and Kelley Houpt (BD). Looking at the pedigrees, I don't even know why they allowed me in that line! Wait until you hit the east coast - there's no experience in the world like the Renegades at DCA!
  3. Link to the DCP news article with details on the upcoming Renegades Open House on December 1st/2nd at Del Mar High School in San Jose.
  4. I see there have been some delays, but what is the normal turnaround time for posting of announcements? Is there a lead time requirement? Also, besides the article, is there any other info you require - such as name of the submitter, contact info for the organization, etc? Thanks in advance for the guidance. And congrats on the new house! :)
  5. Is email to press@dcpnews.com the preferred way to submit announcements? I have been looking everywhere on the site to try and find instructions on how to do so. I was about to post an announcement to the general discussion areas and then ask a mod to move it.
  6. Best of luck to the Renegades at DCA. I haven't seen you in person this year, but I've seen video and LOVE the energy!
  7. The key to sustainable success is to start small and build up to the ultimate prize. Renegades didn't just burst onto the scene in 2001/02 and materialize just in time for DCA Prelims. The corps started in 1997 (roots actually go back about a year before that) and did parades and standstills for a few years while building up the infrastructure and recruiting. I think Sam is on the right track to start small, but think the short and medium-term goals for the new organization should include travel outside the region - at least to Northern CA for the West Coast Showdown to crown the western all-age champ - and unless DCA is definitely NOT in the organization's plans, at least set a trip to Finals as a point for future consideration. Yes travel is expensive, but 1) it helps sell your product, 2) it's a great experience for the members, and 3) it is a huge boost for recruiting. Best of luck, and let me know if there's anything I can do to help. I have a long list of personal mistakes and missteps you are more than welcome to learn from! Brandon
  8. Paging Lee Rudnicki to the white courtesy phone...Lee Rudnicki to the white courtesy phone....
  9. Not sure now is the best time to push for a new channel on satellite radio. The waters are a little murky with the proposed XM/Sirius merger, and there are already talks that some of the lower-rated channels (rumors point to both providers' Broadway channels for a start) may be cut if the merger goes through. Satellite would be preferrable to terrestrial radio (either standard AM/FM or HD Radio) since satellite programming is national and would reach a larger audience than the network of smaller, regional stations. If we could succeed in getting a Drum Corps channel on XM, I could hop in my car in California and listen to non-stop corps news and music all the way to Indianapolis next summer. If the deal was with OTA radio, even syndicated, I would lose signal a few miles east of San Francisco and then have to shuffle CDs the rest of the way.
  10. Mav posted this sudden and shocking news on the Renegades site. I'm already praying for you and Barbara. God bless you both.
  11. Can't wait to see you guys this summer. You've got some buzz going. Work your butts off this weekend and don't let Nash or Lee push you around too much!
  12. That's a bit disingenuous. "F-ed up" is pretty clear. If someone means "fouled up" they will say "fouled up", or any of the other things you said above. And why should it matter that it was Marc Sylvester? I thought the big underlying complaint was that rules were being applied inconsistently. Carving out an exception for individuals, whether it's Marc, Hoppy, Lee Rudnicki (yeah, like that would happen) or anyone else is counter to the drumbeat for consistency everyone claims to want.
  13. I get that, but I wasn't proposing that as support for DCP's policies. I just want people to think about what they are fighting FOR. As a nation Americans have been trained from birth to oppose "censorship", real or perceived, so it's easy to get riled up that DCP won't allow us to use certain words in whole or thinly veiled by use of symbols. But are you really asking for the right to do that? If not, then what?
  14. I do not speak officially for the Renegades, and they don't speak for me. The corps can say what they want on their website, as they are 100% responsible for the content over there. But when Renegades members, or anyone else, post on DCP they are subject to the rules of this forum.
