  1. Way to go Stan, I went to school with him at University of Houston. Great guy. Very smart. Super teacher.
  2. Cavaliers - 1969 in the Houston Astrodome, with Jesus Christ Superstar. When the guard portrayed the three people dying on the cross, the entire Dome went silent.
  3. Absolutely. As a band director that competes in California, I want to go last. Guys, you better have a great show, because if you do not, I will beat you every time.
  4. I have a former student in the Santa Clara mello line. He will be back next year.
  5. Phantom is practicing in Reno, Nevada Thursday night. We are at 4600 feet and still hit 100 here today. It is going to be hot all week.
  6. Going to watch Phantom's practice on Thursday in Reno, Nevada, prior to Phantom moving on to California. Problem is -- it is brutally hot in the west this week. Reno at 4600 feet, hit a 100 today. The valley of California is around 110. They are cancelling flights in Phoenix because it is too hot for some planes to fly. Ugg. About the only time you can practice is before 10 in the morning and after 8 in the evening.
  7. Re: Mandarins As a band director with 12 either present or alumni marching, in the Mandarins, I am very proud of the improvement of the corps this year. The whole corps has taken a major step forward this season. I am especially pleased with the administration and staff. My kids are having a great experience while learning so much musically and emotionally. Their corps director has put together an excellent staff that does an excellent job of teaching, while caring about the kids. The whole support staff really takes care of the members. Fortunately, I am going to be able to go to Indy this year and see them in person. This will allow me to see two other alumni, that will be marching in the Blue Devils and Blue Coats. My Blue Coat alumni is aging out, so it is my last chance to show up and support my kids.
  8. First show I saw was VFW championships in 1971. Since then, taught, judged and sent many students into various corps. Right now, still teaching and enjoying marching band. Going to teach new drill tomorrow. A couple of ex-students, but who marched this year, are heading home today, to help teach the drill.
