  1. Yeah that's what I was thinking. So do instructors get paid? Or are most of them volunteers?
  2. Hello! So I have been thinking about what I want to do for my career when I grow up, and since I love Drum Corps, it would only be natural for me to want to have a full time job working with corps. I would love to do some sort of instruction, I really would like visual and maybe help out with music, but I don't really know if this would be a realistic job opportunity, as I'm sure most of the instructors are volunteers. I would love to work on a personal level with a corps, and was just wondering what type of schooling I would need so that I could have to chance to. Thanks!
  3. oh well I don't know, I haven't tried one myself, but I looked on the yamaha website at the bore size, I could be wrong. Sorry about that. I'm not too knowledgeable about small bore mouthpieces, as I don't use small bore horns.
  4. Well if I'm not mistaken the 201 is a "large shank" with a 0.571 bore. Not sure a small shank mouthpiece would go well with that My friend got himself a Schlike 52E2 and it was heavenly (before he left it in his case after the finals retreat and it's gone forever :P). He said most places sell it for like $150 but he got one for $60. Not sure where, but you can do a quick search. I'm pretty sure it is one of the more optimal mouthpieces I've ever tried.
  5. Thanks for this! I'll check it out when I get back to school on Monday. I'm learning the slow part of Czardas on it, it's pretty exciting and satisfying to get notes in tune
  6. Hello there! So one of my friends recently caught a contrabass G bugle on craigslist for 50 bucks, and it (to me) is in fantastic condition, but the thing is I don't really know how to play it. I've learned "Tank" and part of our school's marching show on it by ear (It's a talent I possess XD), but I can't look at a piece of music and play it on the bugle. I don't have a picture of it, but it looks pretty much like this. Now that I think about it, it might have even been a Getzen. But either way, it's got the piston in the front and rotary in the back. I'm just wondering if there's a fingering chart or something that I could use with this instrument. Inside the case there is this little extra curved piece of tubing, which I assume is the F# rotary slide attachment? Oh and one last question, are there notes that are not playable on this horn? While I was trying to play some stuff (Sonic Boom) I realized some of the notes just wouldn't play on the horn. I try all valve combinations and trying to bend the pitch, but it just doesn't want to work! BTW, I live and thrive in the BB era, so this type of horn is completely new to me
  7. Bumped for answers. I have the same questions, especially the second one.
  8. heh heh this is pretty funny. Was this a serious article that was actually released to the public?
  9. ok so you exaggerate what this guy's saying, re-wording it so that he sounds like an ignorant person when he really was just stating facts, then you say you're not picking on him? And you acknowledged that he was a kid. What you were just doing there wasn't right, bending his words and trying to sound "nice" about it. Edit: Sorry I really don't want to start any sort of moralistic arguments, I just wanted to put this out there because I just read your post and this popped in my mind.
  10. So... not sure if this is off topic or anything but I'm auditioning for Bluecoats, and I've got a Crossmen friend that says they judge "purely on musical ability". First off, I'm wondering if this is true or semi-true, and if it is true, how they go about doing it.
  11. Well personally I think the point of this was to actually convey the emotions that they're trying to get across. You can't get the feeling of "alone", "scared", "fragile", "abused", just from music right? I think the speaking was emphasized by the background music, therefore creating the emotional impact that they were aiming for. It's not just about the pre recorded tapes, or the music, it's the careful blend that creates the whole picture.
  12. yeah ear piercings seem to be the norm around the BD hornline X)
  13. exactly my thoughts when I heard he moved to Academy!
  14. I would like to present a more awesomerest version XD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzMaAYMJ1dE&feature=related
  15. Hello! So when I watch videos of Phantom playing Canon, it seems like they start like a few milliseconds after the conductor hits the downbeat and stays like that where the corps is playing a little behind the conductor's conducting. It gets so bad for me that I just scroll down to the comments and just listen because I can't stand having what I'm hearing not lining up with what I'm seeing. I have noticed this on various PR videos, and am wondering if I'm going crazy or this is how they do it. Thanks!
  16. some of the Xmen have pretty substantial facial hair, wonder if they shaved it all off before tour or something.
  17. well I think their uniforms were very sharp looking last year with the giant white plumes. The tiny red ones and the blue ones with green thingys on the front just didn't match the rest of the uniform.
  18. haha the first video is priceless! Thanks for sharing these!
  19. the day Phantom plays jazz and marches on a bicycle is the day a new era has begun. XD
  20. All the videos of 2008 finals scores!!! YESSSS!!!!!!!!! Here's how it goes every time I watch any of the videos: "and in second place....." I'm starting to breathe heavily. "with a score of nine eight point one zero" I'm getting anxious. *silence* My heart is pounding at ∞ bpm and I'm hyperventilating. "Blue Devils" YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I explode in fist pumping, teeth-barring glory and power that lasts until basically the rest of the video XD thank you for letting me share my experience with you X)
  21. can you link me to a finals recording? I'd love to hear it! This was the only video on youtube that I could find though.
  22. I'll end this little splurge with this, one that cannot be forgotten.
