  1. you are so right about 87....... we (scouts) saw star all the time on tour...., 86, and 87, and first half of 1988.
  2. you are so right about 87....... we (scouts) saw star all the time on tour....
  3. I HAVE A STAR SHOW FLAG FROM THE 1986 SHOW, THE FLAG WITH THE "BIG TOP" :) I had the "when you wish upon a star" flag but it got taken out with old clothes, Good-will. I have a strong feeling that some drag queen here in LA found the flag and has given it a good home... :(
  4. SCV nice but did not go well with Horn uni's Cadets 2003 were a re-hash of Crossmen 2002 Cavies uni was wrong!
  5. Or 86 Suncoast! :) One of my ALL TIME 80's shows was SUNCOAST 89~
  6. 1985 Argonauts were beating BD in guard first season!
  7. Sean of Madison Scouts Morgan of Madison Scouts AND the Scout from 95
  8. I'm thinking you're right. As much as I love the '87 show, the guard was the weak link. (I've always wondered if that was a direct consequence of having marched practically no guard the year before.) That entire rifle sequence was mostly strap work. Inventive, but it also revealed an inherent weakness in the rifle line; it was obvious they couldn't let go of their equipment. Which made me wonder about the wisdom of having a rifle line. I mean, if they can't toss, then why have them in there at all? If you have to have a separate section, then why not go the route Santa Clara had already gone and put them on some other prop? Another thing that happened the way it happened, so what's the point of questioning it now? Just how my brain works, I guess. I WILL ADD: not a strong guard and in todays world the guard would have kept them from winning...... That said, 87 is still one of my all time favorite Cadets show, the guard did help sell the show, and one of the best COSTUMES ever put on the field. (lucky they did't give the guard a score back then).
  9. OMG! I'm only off by "10" years....it was 87 not 97 (old age). I'll go back and fix that post...... Thank you chris
  10. PINK UNI'S......Star was the first drum corp to have that lean uniform, not unlike what Cavies, BD, Scouts have today........I just re played 85 and the pink and white uniform looked OUTSTANDING on the field! one more thing about 85, that rotating 3-D box was a very cool drill move as was the running Big Bad Wolf. 1985 was also the only year Star marched Rifles. TRIVIA: Star's guard was beating Garfields guard first half of the season.
  11. "1987" cadets only marched rifle for about 64 counts of the entire show without one toss, the gun never left their hands....until the last hit of the song. I think it was a triple....at one show we gasped as the 10 rifles ran to the front side line to do their one toss......all the guns landed in the PIT! next show the toss was gone,,,,they did a flip with the strap and held up the weapon on the last beat......
  12. Two drops and a perfect score??? How does THAT happen? Yep....that's what I want to know!!! recovery and/or judge didn't see it OK ILL SAY IT! THE JUDGE WHO GAVE THEM A TEN, MARCHED IN THE CAVIES.......
  13. For those of us on the WEST COAST SCV 1992 first tour had the guard put on the "HAT, SKIRT, RED COATS AND WHITE BOOTS the last few Min of the show... They dropped to their knees and did the bottle dance ALL THIS WAS TAKEN OUT PRIOR TO LEAVING CALIFORNIA :(
  14. I can't get enough of 1988 VK, I just got the Video for VK and had only seen it live way back when.... WOW! was that a great drum corp, that guard was better then BD and did way more then Phantom (who won guard). I had no idea that were that ahead of the game!
  15. I saw the Great Gates SCV 1986 listed a few times. Go back and play your DVD/Video with the sound off. I want to see if you'all will still pick this as an all time great. I can't stay awake as the horn arc SLOWLY moves toward the front side line, SLOWLY bending at a snails pace as the color guard SLOWLY moves in two lines. This is not artistic as was 84's slow closer. This is just bad visual as was the entire SCV 86 visual show. (The horn book was great and powerful.)
  16. I too think Mandarins should have been ahead of Pacific Crest.
  17. unfortunatly BD puts it's Horn line and drill around their guard a bit too much sometimes. So now BD's hornline finds intself accentuating, the GUARDS reptioire....
  18. By the way, Phantom was never in the running for HIGH GUARD, They were in 6th place in prelims, and the one judge who liked them judged Finals. From 6th to 1st in 1 show. not bad.
  19. They were in California 15 years ago 1988.
