  1. I have two questions that I'm sure someone can answer. #1 If the American Legion is co-sponsoring this show, will the winner be the American Legion National champs? #2 If the answer to #1 is yes, does the American Legion require the corps to have an honor guard? In advance - thanks
  2. I may be wrong but I believe the Sun sponsored show this weekend is in Pittsfield, MA and not Everett, MA.
  3. This is a good news post and hopefully we will also see the return of the Tournament of Stars to Bayonne. Congrats BPAO.
  4. Every corps has members that have given there whole life to a corps and when they pass it's difficult. It's difficult to put into words what George Heyek was to the Caballeros. Yes he was a founding member in 1946 but to us who are older and in the alumni, he was truly a father figure at 90 years old and still marching. His knowledge of the corps history was unmatched. He was able to recall in detail shows and events from 60 years ago. His memory was impeccable. Rest in peace George. You will always be missed.
  5. Al, your post make me think back to the beginning of this past season. Al Katz (who rarely if ever post on here anymore) posted about the Cabs at the beach show. He said that they were having difficulty getting corps to commit to an early show because many corps shows were incomplete and they didn't want a low score because of an incomplete show. If you can't get corps to commit to a show because the show isn't finished, then penalties are a moot point. If you take it a step further, no corps, no show, no money and a shorter season. The Cabs at the beach show turned out to be a judges evaluation show without scores.
  6. I've noticed that Sky has been in three shows and have had an increase in penelties at every show. .02 - .04 - and .06. Anyone have knowledge as to why?
  7. Hmmmm --- if your first second place is also first and if your last you still win. Metaphysics has always boggled my mind.
  8. Fran, I think that the attendance at Wildwood ( no scores) will give some insight to the paying public's willingness to attend shows for a month without placements. Would no scores hurt attendance for the July no score shows? If so, that might hurt the sponsors pocket.
  9. Be careful what you wish for. The Bucs have always had a strong audience presence at this show.
  10. Will the corps receive comments without scores from a DCA judging panel as at the Wildwood show?
  11. John, I have a question. Was it the sponsors wish or was it DCA's decision to have the first show not scored? Dan, numbers given "this early in the season" ? The season is now only two months long. DCA is not like DCI with weekday shows.
  12. Thanks for the update gman. Always loved having a show in my hometown. Happy that the show will continue.
  13. I was just on Fusion's web page and they have July 23rd listed as their home show at Bayonne. I thought this show was the tornament of Stars sponsored by the Bridgemen. Anyone have a clarification on this???
  14. How sad that there will no longer be a Barnum Festival. Another piece of drum coprs history going the way of the Dream and Barnum's elephants. Well the elimination of Barnum's performing elephants is not such a bad thing.
  15. Other than calling them "The Evil Empire" because they won so much, I remember I wasn't marching the year the Statesmen performed Miss Saigon. I went to finals with a friends wife because he was still marching. After the show we were walking out and were talking about there show. I asked her what she thought about them having a helicopter in the middle of the field as a prop. She looked at me and asked, what helicopter? LMAO
  16. Kamarag, you misinterpreted my post and thank you for the note on my typo. I'm sure Jeff can defend himself but it's nice to have friends that look out for each other. My post was referencing the Bernie Sanders rally but I guess that went over your head. Again thanks for the spell check.
  17. Pie in the sky great soultions that sound like a Sanders really. LOL very good Jeff
  18. Just read a post on FB from a friend who is a music teacher in Maryland. Just last week, she worked 58 hours IN SCHOOL not counting lesson plans at home. Also not looking at having to do grocery shopping, wash clothes cook, clean the house etc etc. The municipal budgets along with school budgets are strapped. If you put a referendum on a ballot to vote for an increase in the school budget it's voted down. Now, what would you have the school district do without additional money and teachers who are already working 60 hours a week?
  19. Copyright laws, licensing, publishers, everyone wants there piece of the pie. It's enough to #### off the Pope! Just chipping away at drum corps piece by piece.
  20. I guess this year will also be the finale for the Tornament of Stars. Just when I was getting use to having a hometown show. Good luck Bridgemen.
  21. Thanks Fran but who is the host / sponsor??
