  1. Never said I had it out on the field, also said most kids don't do this and see it as breaking the rules. I also even said I understand why corps take it away
  2. Nice try Stu. But I paid thousands of dollars to march a corps that had no a/c on the buses that broke down every other day and we had to carpool to the housing sites. Forced to sit on our suitcases because there's no room and with a corps that had no money to feed us some days and we slept in halls that smelt like cigarettes all the time. Not all drumcorps have it as well as some Div 1's. Keep hating the younger generation, it really makes outsiders who read this want to join Back to the cell phone debate...don't like it don't send your kids away with them.
  3. As a recent age-out (2011) there was an unspoken rule about cell phones on the field, and yes some kids broke that rule just like kids break every rule. And I do understand to a point why corps like the Cavies take away cell phones. I know it's hard to believe but I really do hate it when I'm trying to talk to someone and they're too busy on their iphone's to listen to me. However, tour now isn't like tour back in the 80's or even further than that (my mother and a few uncles marched in the late 70's and 80's I know what tour was like) and it gets really hard to be around the same 150 people for 3 straight months. If I didn't have my phone to call my parents at night and vent to them I probably would have killed someone in the corps. Just sayin'.
  4. I will keep that in mind. I haven't seen their show yet personally it's just my opinion based on past experience. I stand by what I said
  5. Because they're music is challenging and start of the season very strong in that aspect while the other corps try to clean everything all at once. When the other corps start to become cleaner with better technical skills Crown just can't keep up. They put all their eggs in one basket to say.
  6. 1. BD (And I am NOT a BD fan but I like this show) 2. Cadets (Technically worlds above Crown) 3. Crown (Because the judges will think so) 4. Phantom (Beautiful, as always) 5. Bluecoats (Strongest show I've seen from them in years IMO) 6. SCV (They're alright) 7. Boston (I would love love love to see Boston sore this year but 7th is nice too) 8. Madison (Always start out strong then falter when they realize they can't clean their show) 9. Cavaliers (Just not the same Cavies I know and love) 10. Spirit of Atlanta (Good for them this year) 11. Blue Stars (Stock) 12. Crossmen (Keeping my fingers crossed for them this year)
  7. My friend, "staying in 8th" is never Boston's goal. They strive to be the best just like everyone else out there.
  8. #1. corps don't want to die out so of course they're going to have people come in and test the waters for future involvement. #2. Unfortunately, people get cut all the time. People still get cut in move-ins. It sucks but it happens. #3. Yes, it is largely based on attitude. Say you have 2 people of equal talent, one of them is sour and has an awful attitude, the other is a sweetheart that gets along with everybody. Which one would you want in your line? #4 The best of the best don't march in the corps, they TEACH the corps. Members are students, you are there for learning experience. To grow and become a better person and performer. Then one day when you've learned all you can learn you too can become an instructor. My mother marched in the days of uniform inspections and instructors who kicked dirt at you. Drum corps is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life but I'm glad it's more to help me grow and less to make me feel like ####. My thoughts!
  9. I recently talked to some of my friends in the Cadets this year and their feelings on it were "You can never wake up mad. You wake up and you're just like 'Hey! it's Christmas!'" And I agree 100% stop thinking about the scores and the years proceeding and enjoy some amazing music played by an amazing corps in the spirit of an amazing holiday!
  10. I wish that I could be excited or even interested in these standings. I know it's just to keep us all in the loop and to get us excited but it kind of makes me nervous. I have only been to the Orlando show and I am WELL aware that some nights are just bad and it's only June but Carolina Crown was a bag of ticks. I can only speak about the guard and visual (so please don't jump down my throats about how good their horn line is) if I can't count on my 2 hands how many weapon drops there were and if during an exchange feature more than half of the flags hit the field I am NOT impressed. Again, I get it was just one show but the conditions were not bad last night and they are a well respected World Class corps who should know how to deal with the elements. But anyways, I got sidetracked. We do the same thing in WGI every gets eager about what guards across the country are scoring but you can't do that. These scores in no way are going to reflect what happens at a regional. So those who don't like it calm down and those who think this is the slotting for finals, well don't count your eggs before they hatch. Long Live DCI
  11. I know many females that would give almost anything to audition for Cavaliers...yet they can't because they are a private organization and have the right to accept who they wish.
  12. Drum corps is an EXTREMELY time consuming activity. I even did Open class for 4 years and between that, work, and school it was exhausting. If you're worried about time I would go for an all-age corps. But I have to tell you, yes it is a lot of money and yes it is time consuming, but you will never regret it. It will be the best choice you ever make. Whether it be Spirit, Teal, Cadets, or Blue Stars etc. you will make amazing friends and an amazing family. Don't let your limitations be the deciding factor. Corps are often very willing to work with you when it comes to money or travel issues even experience issues. Choose a corps that you love and won't mind spending 24/7 with and let the rest happen from there.
  13. The thing I love about the Crusaders is the family atmosphere they provide. As an alumnus I am VERY upset that I will not be seeing them until Atlanta but I am so proud of that corps and they should know that we're very excited about this season! Eat 'Em Up Boston!
