  1. How do they see the DM around the bell? Never knew their field of vision was limited like that.
  2. How do you guys see the DM with that bell in your face? I played tenors and snare so I never had an issue being able to see.
  3. So, "other corps" is referring to other Cadets corps, not other corps like Crown, BD, etc. That makes sense. Thanks for clarifying.
  4. Dang it, I was .1 away from tie with Cadets prediction! Awesome show!
  5. With only 31 age outs I hope to see Spirit kick it up a notch. They've steadily improved each of the past three years, now they are veteran heavy, assuming they return. Don't do a redo of '86. Would like to see them break new ground with some Copland.
  6. I just don't see any losers. You go out there, give 8 months of your life, work your tail off in the blistering sun, live on a gym floor, take cold showers, travel 10,000 miles and put everything you have in you into the show, and get up and do it again, and again until it reaches its' ultimate conclusion...whatever a person wearing a green shirt thinks is of little importance. Everyone wants to win, but you don't march corps so you can win, you march because you want to know how to prepare to win, to be the absolute best you can be, you want to surround yourself with people who want to chase perfection all the while knowing you cannot attain it. 4th place, 8th place, 14th place...they are all committed to excellence and all achieved something they will take with them forever. That's a winner in my book. Congrats to all the corps members in each class. Good for you. Feel proud, you did something only a small percentage of people get to do.
  7. Thanks. I'm satisfied with the responses. I do get it is hard to convey intent in the written word, so if I heard him say I would probably understand in which context he meant.
  8. Did anyone else notice this? When BAC was up, their front ensemble was there, the DM was there, but the corps wasn't for quite a while, then they ran on the field, and began their show before they were announced. I immediately thought back to the QF penalty, noticed they didn't do that on semi's and then for finals that was kind of their up yours to DCI, kind of like you gave us a penalty for baby powder...? Really? Ok then, we'll be late to the gate and start the show when we want to. I mean at that point, it's finals, what are you going to do to them? Penalize them again? So what if you do.
  9. Ever since George Hopkins went on his rant on FB about housing conditions earlier this season, I have ever since started to occasionally check his FB page to see what the latest rant might be...then this morning I noticed this... "With all respect to other corps , the learning here is a bit different. I always wanted to connect the corps experience to life and we have done so. They get choice , they get work ethic , they learn to choose happy in the face of challenge. These guys are perhaps more advanced. They seem to have a handle on the message. Maybe I did a better job ?" I assume then other corps do not get that corps is a life long lesson, or work ethic. I had always heard a lot of people don't like him, and I just assumed it was perhaps because they are very good on a consistent basis, however, after reading that post, I think I am beginning to understand. There are so many little jabs in his words directed to every member corps in DCI. I wonder exactly what message the Cadets learned this summer from him? They are more advanced perhaps. I don't know the guy, and may be completely off base, or perhaps he didn't intend to phrase it that way, but that is what I thought as soon as I read it.
  10. The remedy for this is to roll back the progress bar. I rolled back 15 minutes and had no issues streaming...it's a buffering issue with too much data being streamed. What DCI should do for their live streams is to not actually stream it live but rather add in a delay to allow the data to load, but if they don't figure it out, roll it back next year...when the show starts hit the pause button and come a few minutes later and you're all set.
  11. If you are having issues with the live feed it is because of a buffering issue. Want the fix? Simply roll back your status bar about 5minutes. I did this before BS came on and we have ZERO issues. There is too much data being streamed LIVE to keep up. Roll it back. No freezing...so what you aren't watching live, you're 5min behind. It works. Good luck.
  12. Crown by a slim margin, I'm also calling a tie between SCV and Cadets.
  13. I don't think it is common practice. The only thing I could think of would be changing instruments, switching from bass to tenors and the member doesn't want to play bass again but doesn't get offered a tenor spot...?
  14. I know a few corps that could use your input when it comes to design. Good write up.
  15. What's the over/under on ever seeing Cadets use towers again?
  16. A friend of mine marched Phantom in 89 and refuses to even watch a clip of any DCI show today. I know a few others who do the same.
  17. Am I reading the recaps correctly? Based on content and achievement Crown has the most room to move than BD does. I know we have a new judging panel tonight.
  18. They have a good staff now and are heading the right direction. Spirit is the next Carolina Crown...and there is ZERO reason that should not happen.
  19. I have no doubt you're correct. However, my point is specifically related to those two drum lines. To me, it was all about instruction, design, writing, overall approach, etc. and not talent.
  20. From my perspective, it was the philosophy of each staff. I can't speak for Brass or Guard or Visual or Administrative, I can only speak to percussion. Totally different philosophies. And after bearing witness to each drum line that year. I can say without question that Spirt's drum line had more talent in it than Star's did. Yet, look at where each drum line scored. So from my perspective, I don't buy that all the top tier corps have more talent in them, I saw first hand, and honestly was surprised at what saw in Star's line compared to Spirit's. Spirit was vet laden across the board, Star had a 16 year old marching tenors. So, what was the difference? Why did Star's line score points ahead of Spirit's that year? My opinion, the philosophy as it relates to teaching, expectations, professionalism, positive reinforcement, confidence, etc. It was NOT about talent or experience.
  21. Good idea. Or do like they do in College Football...during the off season coaching staffs will visit other coaching staffs to get their ideas on how to do certain things. I know Alabama visited Virginia Tech to speak with them on their special teams. Or, they will visit to get ideas on how to stop a certain offense, etc. It would be nice if there was more sharing like that...of course everyone would participate except GH :)
