  1. That usually takes a few years. They'll just be speeding up that tendency this time around. :-P
  2. Indeed. At some point during their respective shows, the Blue Devils' color guard will all switch to snare, Phantom Regiment's tubas will insert trumpets into their bells and continue playing, half the Cavaliers will switch to drum major and act as the personal conductors for the other half of the members, the Madison Scouts and Blue Knights will trade uniforms, the Bluecoats will switch to WGI's rules for five minutes, and the Santa Clara Vanguard and Cadets will perform one another's shows at random points throughout the summer.
  3. Just a joke on my part in my previous comment. :-) If they were really doing a Cloverfield show, the narrator would have to scream "OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!" at several points during the show. (Heavy overuse of "oh my god" in that movie.)
  4. Are they throwing in elements from Cloverfield as well? (I think that monster was intended to be a purely deep sea creature, and fortunately not from space. Somewhat related -- I suspect the theme from the most recent Godzilla movie will be played on a field somewhere in the near future. It had me instinctively drumming on my lap in the theater. Strangely, no one shushed me.)
  5. Do we need to bring in conspiracy theories about links between NASA and the Freemasons? :-)
  6. If the picture is of Canada, then it's indicative of Canada. Not Colorado. Just sayin. Waaaaaaaaiiiit a second. This sort of thing has happened in these parts before. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/did-another-colorado-political-campaign-use-the-wrong-mountains http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/politics/schaffer-yanks-ad-after-it-shows-wrong-mountain http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/07/07/oops-colo-candidate-puts-wrong-mountains-web-site/ Who put this campaign together, anyway? And what did I give my money to? :-P
  7. It says these uniforms are awful. But does the music do an effective job at expressing the message that the uniforms are, as some might claim, awful? If so, then that should be good for scoring and placement. :-P
  8. Genius! At this rate, they'll be performing five different pieces of music at the same time.
  9. Additional thought... Maybe they could throw in a space Jack and a space dog lying in the middle of the field. (Note: I'm not a professional show designer. Do not attempt to take my advice.)
  10. I'm not sure I see how that piece fits with the outer space theme. Then again, maybe Crown has been made privy to previously undisclosed clues. Could it be that The Island was actually ... IN OUTER SPACE?????? *gasp* (Kidding! I'm actually quite interested in how it turns out.)
  11. And with the (possibly repeated) countdowns, they can also throw in bits of Einstein on the Beach performed backwards. :-P
  12. Since somebody mentioned Stalin, does that mean Hitler needs to find out? :-P
  13. And this prop could serve double duty as a musical instrument... Is Stonehenge just a gigantic xylophone? Researchers tap landmark's bluestones and record them 'singing'... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2573459/Is-Stonehenge-just-gigantic-xylophone-Study-sound-rocks-make-hit-finds-bluestones-make-landmark-sing-struck.html
  14. Now I'm imagining infuriated electronic music fans complaining endlessly about some "marching band" making brass arrangements of these pieces. :-) Maybe the Bluecoats could round it all out with some dubstep. Or maybe some black midi. http://www.theverge.com/2013/10/11/4826974/black-midi-music
  15. Hm. No tour stops in Washington or Colorado. You'll obviously need to get a medical card in the states where they're available. :-P
  16. Do you mean this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5odkVa80Tag
  17. Hitler may be inconsolable by now. Especially since I and another guy with a YouTube account made him rant about the same issue twice. But that's only my guess. :-)
  18. Might as well throw in the one I put together a couple nights ago. (I'm pretty sure Jeff DeMello posted his when I was working on mine. Wasn't quite fast enough.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OlOceoH408
  19. Ironically, there'll be no field judges when DCI debuts its ice rink drum and bugle corps division. (Or will WGI be running that one? I forget.)
  20. "And ... uh ... that was a very interesting rendition of 12 Days of Christmas by the Carolina Crown. Lots more counting than I think anyone expected."
  21. Yeah, but exciting. "Oh... she nailed it! Literally!" (back to "Oh the humanity!!!!") "Yeah, about your Judge-O-Blimps. We're a little concerned that our rifle and saber lines might 'target' the things. You see, we're working on a theme this year, and we specifically recruited kids who got expelled from their respective high schools for zero-tolerance violations when they were seen spinning rifles and sabers for their marching bands and winter guards. Yeah, I know, it's totally unfair, but we decided we could work their newly embittered outlook on life into the show. They didn't start out as bad kids, but their experiences changed them, and they may be looking for targets to take it out on. Some of them are already doing higher tosses than we've instructed them to do, so we're a little suspicious that they're planning something."
  22. That sounds like a possible theme for a show. Somebody could design and perform a show where they almost, but don't quite form that "Coexist" logo at several points from beginning to end. There'd be multiple disruptions.
  23. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qilpBROFuts I'm surprised I couldn't find a smaller clip isolating the first 30 seconds of that, but at least it was available.
  24. The mystery surrounding unidentified drones circling over competition sites will be solved when the CIA and NSA begin issuing their own scores for each competitive unit's performance. Or maybe those scores will be classified.
  25. Would the presence of Judge-O-Blimps interfere with my idea for a rule change that would allow corps members to be lowered to the field by cables from the dome catwalks? I have no objection to the Judge-O-Blimps, but I just want to make sure these things can coexist.
