  1. Previously existing relationships shouldn't matter when it comes to subordinates. Just because a relationship started before a professional relationship started doesn't mean that someone wouldn't feel pressured to stay in a relationship because it could hurt their professional life.
  2. Better get ready, it's a done deal.
  3. But how is he going to find the time for this while also working on his presidential library?
  4. Fair, but let's be completely accurate and say that the old board claims that they did something in January. I don't think we have any evidence they actually did something in January and the outcome of their investigation was as good as doing nothing.
  5. I'm not aware of any either, but the board was made aware of the other accusations and did nothing, they were perfectly happy allowing GH to continue as the CEO of YEA and potentially continuing to assault employees. There is no reason to think that he wouldn't have continued to assault women if this hadn't blown up in the press.
  6. Considering they were notified in January and then did nothing I would suggest exactly that actually. They may not have known prior to the assaults that we know of but they seemed perfectly fine allowing assaults to continue through their inaction.
  7. The full adjusted tour is on dci.org https://www.dci.org/events?corpId=001j000000I6KFgAAN&limit=10&viewMode=list&sort=startDate
  8. Sorry to disappoint you with the continued existence of the corps. Thanks for the hot take though
  9. It is also worth noting that the only person that has been accused of knowing and doing nothing was immediately suspended pending investigation. If people are aware of other people who knew and did nothing then by all means bring it to the attention of the board. If people are just speculating that "people knew" and you don't have any evidence, then what do you want the board to do? Fire everyone who ever worked for GH because you think there is a chance they *might* have known?
  10. That GH was terrible to work for is the worst kept secret in DCI. I don't think anyone who knows anyone who ever worked for him was under any illusions otherwise. The board didn't give a #### though so there wasn't much that could be done. What should have been done differently by your average DCPer?
  11. It was discussed at length in this thread: I know it has been discussed previously when he posted job openings that criticized the people who left as well but I don't have the specific threads for those.
  12. I think you missed it because there have been threads about GH's mental/emotional abuse of employees several times. They were the reason I stopped giving to YEA. It is also one of the reasons that a bunch of alumni stopped financially supporting the corps.
  13. Nah, he's a troll. He uses the DCP approved list of personal insults that won't get him banned to get a rise out of people and then acts surprised when people aren't respectful to him. Even if he is a true believer in the things he says for all intents and purposes he's just a troll.
  14. Probably not since DCP lets trolls keep on trollin'.
  15. I don't agree with that characterization. Nothing even came close to abuse when I was at The Cadets. I was "abused" a lot more at the other corps I marched and heard similar things from people who had marched with other corps.
  16. The corps working hard is in no way related to GH raping people.
  17. Based on what? What uniquely about The Cadets culture (as opposed to societal culture or drum corps culture in general) led to this?
  18. No need to be hostile, I said it would be significantly more than $250k. ~$800k is significantly more than $250k, and that is assuming he didn't have YEA matching his contributions (no clue what kind of retirement plan he gave himself). I would also argue that using the national average savings rate isn't valid because people who make more money tend to save more. Whether he did or not I don't know, but it isn't very hard to have a million dollars if you were making $175k a year for the last 30 years (which I agree, he wasn't). More importantly I wasn't disagreeing with the premise of your argument, I was just making a minor correction to the math.
  19. Nobody is saying there isn't a Cadets culture, just that enabling rape isn't a part of the culture. I don't see the connection between working hard and fighting for every tenth and enabling rape. You want to throw the baby out with the bath water because you just don't like The Cadets or their supporters in general.
  20. You are forgetting about compounding interest, he would have significantly more than $250k. Either way, the whole $175k salary thing is the biggest red herring in this mess. Yeah, it is good money, but he isn't rich and given the number of hours he worked it isn't an absurd amount of money. Whatever else he is, he was the director of one of the most successful drum corps in history and was compensated as such. The thing about a lot of the responses (not the one I'm responding to, just responses in general) to this whole mess that makes me really uncomfortable is how many people are using it as vindication of all their dislike of rule changes, show designs, uniforms, and anything else they didn't like about GH. Some people seem happy to see GH go down because they don't like his effect on drum corps more than they are glad that a serial rapist has been exposed.
  21. Nice victim blaming. Victims of sexual assault often don't come forward for many reasons even if they haven't been Cadets or YEA employees. This isn't unique to the culture of The Cadets.
  22. Any truth to the rumors of corps doing asymmetrical drill this year? That's going to be hard on the marching timpani players
  23. It's been 2 weeks and the new board has acted quickly and admirably. The things you want to happen are happening. The board is focusing on addressing and preventing these things from happening again, the drum corps is focusing on being a drum corps. Nobody is sweeping anything under the rug, the investigation is ongoing, but there is no evidence at all that there are sexual predators still involved with YEA. In the meantime they are also working to continue fulfilling their purpose as an organization. Just because they are focusing on having a successful drum corps season doesn't mean they aren't also focusing on addressing the organizational failings under the previous regime.
  24. Nobody involved in making that statement is associated with YEA any more. They are all gone thankfully
  25. What? This doesn't even make any sense as a response to George's post. What specifically about the culture do you feel should change?
