  1. I can't believe I have to say this... This is all for *fun*. F-U-N. If you feel offended for some reason, then this isn't the thread for you, because this is just numerical observations. We all know DCI and numbers don't exactly mix perfectly. This is a thread about the different Drum Corps and their consistency of placement in the last 11 years. For some corps, they've been consistently placing around the same every year for 11 years. For other corps, theyve recently decided NOT to be consistent, either in a good way (Blue Knights) or in a rather bad way (The Cavaliers). Keep in mind, this is not meant to elude to any thoughts of "because theyve done this, they are the best/worst/judges love them too much etc etc. It just thought itd be fun to do this and share it with you. In current ( 9:30PM Eastern 7/31/14 ) top 8 order: [Current Placement]. [Corps] - [Average Finals Score] - [Average Finals Placement] - [Number of 1st place finishes] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Blue Devils - 97.975 - 1.81 - 5 2. The Cadets - 96.304 - 3.27 - 2 3. Bluecoats - 93.202 - 5.63 - 0 4. CCrown - 94.020 - 5 - 1 5. *Cavaliers - 95.86 - 3.27 - 2 6. SCV - 93.71 - 5.34 - 0 7. B.Knights - 87.911 - 9.81 - 0 8. Phantom - 94.806 - 4.27 - 1 *Considering the "Cavaliers Millenium" was the height of their corps, I've taken the liberty to do the same math but from 2000-2010: 2000-2010 Cavaliers 1. Cavaliers - 97.59 - 1.9 - 5/4.5 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Placing the corps in order based on average finals scores ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1, Blue Devils - 97.975 - 1.81 - 5 2. The Cadets - 96.304 - 3.27 - 2 3. Cavaliers - 95.86 - 3.27 - 2 4. Phantom - 94.806 - 4.27 - 1 5. CCrown - 94.020 - 5 - 1 6. SCV - 93.71 - 5.34 - 0 7. Bluecoats - 93.202 - 5.63 - 0 8. B.Knights - 87.911 - 9.81 - 0 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Observations *I* made: 1. The Blue Devils and the Cadets are remarkably consistent with their placements and scores. However, the Blue Devils seem to be able to pull out the win easier. While both have average scores of 96+, the Blue Devils have 5 first place finishes while the Cadets only have 2. 2. The Cavaliers are in a rather rough patch. They have an average score of 95.86, and yet are resting at 6th place. Comparing this year to the last 2 years, they might be back on the rise. 3. Carolina Crown did a relatively fast surge to the top, and then slumped just a bit. With the most recent World Championship, Crown's average placement is 5th place, which means that they really rocketed their way to the top of the rung. As of now, however, they're strugging with many other corps as they wrestle for the 3rd place mark with the Bluecoats and Santa Clara Vanguard. This may show that Crown may not have the consistency in scoring as the Blue Devils or the Cadets, and may be one of those "magical year" corps - where they'll win every now and then, but when they do its an absolutely amazing show. 4. Blue Knights are having quite a magical season this year. With an average placement of 9.81 and an average score of 87.911, the Blue Knights are currently resting at 7th place with a pre-finals score of 90.250. Both of those numbers are considerably higher than their average, and they continue to improve day by day. Is this the beginning of many years of vast improvement that may lead to a championship one day (because what the top 5 needs is more Blue, am I right?) 4. Phantom is absolutely sporadic. They seem to either score *very* high and win it all or medal, or they're a little on the meh side with scores. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Any observations by anyone else here? If I missed something you feel should be addressed I'll add it in! :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: Grammar
  2. Something tells me BD isn't going to quit after what...7 straight guard titles?
  3. BD's perc breaks this year just strike me as amazing. The Cadets as well, theirs is awesome. Of course, BD and Cadets are known for their outstanding percussion lines year-by-year-by-year. Gonna give credits to the Cavs as well...that Marimba feature was spot on.
  4. Hm, I was sure you got to keep it. I remember seeing some Cadets mother on my Facebook post pictures of a picture frame with her son's picture in it, plus 3 Cadets buckles.
  5. I feel you there. It may be because I'm "new blood" but I'm OK with electronics...to a certain extent. Too much, and it becomes more of a dance routine. I agree with you here though, this is the single best use of electronics I've seen.
  6. I am not kidding.... Why is [corps] not in first place?!?!?!?! This is the most heart wrenching beautiful. show ever done on a field yet it's barely scratching [most recent placement]? NO wAY HOSER! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is my future whining formula from now on.
  7. 1. Blue Devils -- 95.100 2. Cadets -- 93.700 3. Bluecoats -- 92.950 4. Carolina Crown -- 92.650 5. Santa Clara Vanguard -- 91.825 6. Cavaliers -- 89.650 7. Blue Knights -- 88.600 8. Phantom Regiment -- 87.625 9. Boston Crusaders -- 86.650 10. Blue Stars -- 86.150 11. Madison Scouts -- 84.950 12. Crossmen -- 83.050 Predictions vs Scores LOOK AT ME. RIGHT ON THE MONEY WITH FIRST PLACE. IM SO EXCITED
  8. Exactly my thoughts. That'd be easier with trombones, though. And a very few % of people are ok with trombones in DCI.
  9. Can we get a confirmation on this? Cause I know SCV lets you keep SOMETHING
  10. I know that many corps give the members a keepsake for the time they march, usually in the form of a necklace. I'm curious as to what each corps does. I KNOW these: Carolina Crown - Colored Bead Phantom Regiment - Dog Tag The Cavaliers - Colored Gear The Blue Devils - Medals/Championship Rings/Facial Hair Spirit of Atlanta - Delta The Cadets - The Buckle The Bluecoats - Coin Necklace I THINK these: Santa Clara Vanguard - I think you get to keep the little medalliion with the V on it? Not 100% sure. Plume? I think I've heard of these giving stuff out I just don't know what they do: Boston Crusaders Blue Knights EDIT: Added the "plume" suggestion to SCV EDIT: Coins for Bluecoats For Clarification: The "keepsake" here is ANYTHING a corps gives you so that you may remember your time in the corps. *anything*
  11. 1. Blue Devils - 95.1 2. The Cadets - 93.5 3. The Bluecoats - 93.45 4. Santa Clara Vanguard - 91.5 5. Carolina Crown - 90.7 6. Blue Knights - 89.1 7. The Cavaliers - 88.7 8. Boston Crusaders - 86.5 9. Madison Scouts - 86.3 10. Blue Stars - 86.2 11. Phantom Regiment - 86.15 12. Crossmen - 84.9 BAC, Souts, and Blue Stars all have a chance to pass the mighty Regiment. The part I'm MOST unsure about are places 3-7. The Cavs could very well shoot up over many of the corps in front of them.
  12. Ugh this is killing me! I'm going to NightBEAT tomorrow and now I can't wait to see my Devs in action with their LED lights I missed apparently (not using my BD Mediabox pass OR my Fan Network subscription until after NightBEAT...going on a 'fast' if you will)
  13. Yes, plus I'd love to hear this new ending that everyone keeps ruining underwear over, apparently.
  14. DCI Central Indiana - Muncie, Indiana (idk the date) I'm attending: NightBEAT, Charlotte, NC - 7/27/14
  15. i don't like mexican food :/

  16. My friends and I tried to find mistakes in the BD performance I showed them and there were so few it was almost disgusting hahaha
  17. Scores'll level out during the weekend. I actually have tickets to NightBEAT as the last day of my vacation. Can't wait! When BD manages to go to a comp and play right after a not-as-advanced corps, what the judges have in their mind creates a huge gap in scores and causes inflation. It will level out, though I firmly believe bd will dominate.
  18. Finally, someone agrees with me on the Uniform!!! I HATE the purple uniform, but the cream just made all of the drill look too messy. Easier drill + darker pants = higher score
  19. But anyway, if they want reasons: I like the idea of the pitch bend, I really do. It's edgy and as a Blue Devs fan I love edgy. But I don't think its exactly gone about in the correct manner. I don't know how to explain it, but I feel as if there is a far superior way to do go about something like that.
  20. I agree with your 'Lightning in a Bottle' statement. I think they COULD win, but I don't think they WILL win. They need to clean up. BD is a master in performing.
  21. I'll probably be here for a while, once an overzealous Bloo-backer comes and calls me names
