  1. This seems to be a problem specific to the DCA forum as the World and Open Class forums of the DCI corps work 99.99% of the time. The other day the Cabs' announcement for their drum majors took 10 tries to open. The other nine kept circling back to the original post. maybe get one of those 14 year olds now marching DCA to put down his/her texting and work on the DCP problem. Thanks.
  2. Aren't those the same uniforms Crown wore for Inferno ?!?!?!!!
  3. some of Crown's perc. adds were transfers from Cadets staff. Cadet alum and former student of Thom Hannum at UMass and Cadets, Jim Ancona seems to ping-pong between the two corps. Jim is definitely one of the best, a nice guy, and busy 'off season' with those Fightin' Blue Hens (an image I have yet to fully grasp.)
  4. Spoof alert* Spoof Alert* In special preparation for their 2016 season, the Boston Crusaders, already known for their jet-setting ways between Florida and Logan Airport, will begin their La Mancha Spring Training with a special trip on Iberian Airways for on site rehearsals along the Costa del Sol.. In Espana, the corps will visit a real windmill (borrowed from Jubal's prop department with special nods to the Coats for letting the guard Tilt at windmills), break out the all weather gear protocols as they find that the rain is mainly on the Plain, and experience special workshops for proper castanet technique. This has been arranged by their Norwood-neighbor who will also subsidize Flamenco training for the snare line and bass drummers who will not put down their equipment like most other corps' batteries in order to do this highlighted visual feature. Advancing the corps past its Jubilee year, the brassline will hum the 2000 Bolero show to/from/and in Spain whenever they are not playing their '16 rep. Lip slurs will be studied in Barthalona where the drum majors will make a special presentation of the return of the 2006 props used in Cathedral so that the Catalans can complete Sagrada Familia. The ensemble rehearsal will feature a special quintet encore of Brasso, Craiga, Liahona, emc2, and Ghost which will be in the bull fighting ring in tribute to their many years of fighting the bulls on these threads. While they clear customs and await TimK to finish his novenas at Monserat, all will be seeing RED and hoping for another great summer season. Thus endeth the Spoof.
  5. 10/21/15... Back to the Future? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHhwh65cSzw There is another blabinar tonight for MMs, vets, and noobie-wannabees about auditions and stuff. see site.
  6. Great opportunities for French horns (again!) Go with your strengths and fans' pleasure.
  7. Colts did this show in 2010. Too soon for a re-tread.
  8. After 9 White Russians might explain some of the desiign team's thinking of BD shows we've seen this past decade.
  9. word is Eddy Falcon may not be the only Cadet viz staffer Boston will see this season... (p.s. they travel in packs! ...ask the Bluecoats, Crown and 7th Regt..)
  10. With only a month to go until auditions start full time...
  11. Good post, Chris. Just saw this too and it's for winter dates. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/jetblue-flash-sale_56262b8de4b02f6a900db83d?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000592 Note that Friday and Sundays aren't included. Maybe arrive early and fly back after camp chores are done.
  12. Fact, Garfield, N.J. had (note the past tense) the highest rate of testicular cancer in the U.S. (due to the type of side effects from the works done in its many factories, now mostly closed.) That fact was locally known but not publicly advertised especially when audition times were about for the corps which for much of its history was an all male unit like Cavaliers and Madison Scouts. There's an appropriate time and place. What's appropriate to be shared, what is the appropriate time or place are aspects that may rate worthy DCP debate. What the motives of fans, alums, or interested parties may or may not be is not so solidly known, particularly through cyberspace. Let's trust all's good intentions until PROVEN otherwise. :-)
  13. Cadets web posted this for auditionees. What is your experience and sage advice, secret methods, etc. https://www.cheapair.com/blog/travel-tips/when-to-buy-airline-tickets-based-on-1-5-billion-airfares/
  14. Just because Santa Claus thinks you're more a demon than an angel (see how I kept that corps theme?) don't go knocking the fact that others get gifts. Besides with your economic trends sensitivities, one would think that you getting coal in your stockings could be a good thing for saving cash?
  15. Looking at corps' history during Hopkins' times, take everything with a grain of salt until March fourth. Even after then they have changed some pieces.
  16. The usual automatic response in Rockford would be "NO ONE defeats the Regiment!' But "Outing" the Regiment... that may be beyond the pale.
  17. I know one who is doing 3 DCI corps and 1 DCA corps this summer because winter camp weekends are not coincidental but spread out and summer tour will require a few weeks here and a few weeks there. Remember some techs are known for their specialties and some drill staffs are using that to the max rather than carrying someone who is only passable on many things.
  18. Would one listen to some of the DCP posts about Regiment '14 and '15 viz shows, you might think the corps had presented this: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/art/last-survivors-paris-vacant-high-rises/
  19. will the Buccaneers staff be wearing their "I once worked for Hopkins but..." tee-shirts to corps functions? Just saying, there definitely seems to be a lot of them whether he was raiding Bucs or they coming home.
  20. but in true Regiment style, this time they will use a genuine guillotine and pick up where wicked Queen Joan left off. :-D
  21. Do tell. You are becoming like Boston's emc2 teaser. :-p
  22. Some of the challenges before him can be done on computer, via skype, via midis, etc.or on short term drop-ins, such as initial design meetings and discussion. In this techo age having everyone all the time on tour is not the reality. His job titles seem more for inspiration and infusion rather than being didactic and pedantic. BITD it was not unheard of for folks like Pepe Notaro, Joe Genaro, Eric Perilloux, Hy Dreitzer, etc. to have a different corps to teach every day of the week in Metro-NY/Boston/Greater Philadelphia 1-95 stretch. But be assured, wherever Donnie Van Doren is present his impact will be energetic, practical, musical and immediate. I look to see more good corps given his track record.
  23. Merely coincidence? While most of us like gems, especially musical gems, given what we have seen on the field the last season from corps like Coats and SCV, this is interesting for the visuals: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GEV
  24. It is a great opportunity not to be squandered. The challenge today is to balance the expectations of the incoming rookies who grow up wanting to do and be Cadets or Regiment or Troopers hoping to do as excellently what they have watched being done so well by those iconic corps during the MMs growing years. The other side is where the activity is competitively today and in the future and what a corps must do to be given the continued ratings of excellence in this season and next. As the local Jewish rabbi says often, "We live in interesting times."
