  1. I think Boston performs great, but it still just doesn’t feel like the design is there to be a medalist. Their performance captions can certainly break top 3, but I would be very surprised if the GE pushed them into medal caliber. Especially when considering SCV, Bluecoats, Crown and the assumption that BD is a safe top 3 bet. Crown was less exciting to me on a second viewing. They certainly are very talented, but again the show design feels awkward in moments. The part with the streamers is cool, but it almost doesn’t feel like it fits in with a purpose. Just my two cents worth. Thought everyone is certainly getting a lot better and improvements are very noticeable which is nice.
  2. I know it’s common this season, but seeing so many holes on the field is still heartbreaking. Very impressed with the cleaning crossmen have done! They are certainly making me like this show more and more!
  3. The cavies had a flu outbreak in 2015 and had to take about a week off and even pulled out of the Atlanta show. They ended up 8th or 9th that year. It definitely affected their placement given that the year before and after 15 they were top 6. However, 2015’s design was… interesting anyways, so it’s hard to say if the sickness week really had that long of a lasting impact. Hoping Phantom gets well soon.
  4. I am delighted to see that there are a lot of groups making guard interesting and that it will be a lot harder to have a 6 or 7 year run of winning the caption, but to think that BD who has been top 2 in guard every year since 2007 suddenly won’t be this year is betting against history. Crown guard is reminding me of the Bluecoats guard in 2018. They were crisp and spotless, however demand is what held them back from breaking into the top 2 of BD and Boston. I certainly love Crown’s Sabre work with the streamers attached to them, it’s a wonderful effect. I just don’t see them approaching the complexity of BD and Boston… this year at least. But hey, crazier things have happened. At San Antonio a couple years ago Phantom was 4th in guard and like a week later they were back to 8th or 9th. I am just excited to see how this season plays out! Definitely going to get interesting
  5. Boston and Bluecoats have had far too many drops as of late to be up there with BD at the moment. That could change of course, but BD is clearly the cleaner group currently. Crown is certainly headed back to the right direction of contender status, but their book is not up to the difficulty of BD and Boston in either movement or equipment. Bluecoats have too much dirt in their flag work. The movement with the key-tar was pretty messy at the preview.
  6. I will say, after seeing everyone at the top now, BD’s guard is easily top 2 if not capable of winning it outright. They are cleaner than Boston at this point and have some more complexity to their book now then they did a week ago.
  7. Hopefully they go away after these first few weeks of the season. Would hate to see holes in some of these shows at finals.
  8. I’m noticing all of the corps have multiple holes. Are these empty spots or just injuries/illnesses? Also sad to see 2 BD guard members with no equipment
  9. Please remind me when you post this, I’ll make sure to provide some popcorn 😂
  10. Hebron stays pretty safe in the box design wise. Flower mound can go a little out there in a very good way (loved the Seuss show). Crown is trying to do the same thing
  11. It felt very… confusing. I liked parts, but some transitions felt weird. What is the prop supposed to represent? Also that guard is very good. Probably top 4 by finals
  12. Even if they do win, disliking narration will not change
  13. That was interesting. A lot to take in. Not my personal favorite upon first viewing, but I think it could grow on me. Ending felt a little abrupt too. At this moment, BD and Bluecoats are certainly medal locks. No doubt. Interested to see where crown will fit in too.
  14. Maybe for now since it is unfinished, but in no way is that design lower. Way more GE moments.
  15. That guard is going to be top 2 without doubt. That difficulty is unreal.
  16. Getting Babylon vibes based on the props and uniform colors
  17. I’d say there’s still a lot more question marks for SCV than BD at this point. Regardless of score, I think it’s safe to say that Santa Clara Vanguard has a lot more to tweak and add to than BD. Devils have a complete package to work with. And it’s phenomenal.
  18. That should automatically put them in contention for GE in August, finals appearance or not
  19. That will be a medal worthy show when done. Wow. That guard will be in contention too.
  20. Very interested to see what SCV has been up to next!
  21. They remind me of what Claudia Taylor Johnson High did a couple years ago with their lion king show. The plumes are certainly… a choice in this one.
  22. Checking out the livestream from their premiere thing on YouTube. Loving the uniforms for the musicians!
  23. Oh absolutely. And like I said, I’m one that is thrilled with how far they’ve come in such a short time. Having a lot of returning members always helps with that too. I definitely think this is the beginning of an ascent up the rankings for them. They could very well be back in the top 6 if they continue to have high retention rates.
