True, it's all about the tone of a post

Saying a show has BOA qualities isn't necessarily a bad thing. It just is what it is

Agreed. Their best shows throughout history are typically not story based. 2005 being the exception. Have engaging music, execute on marching, and integrate the guard. It's all they need. No need to go overboard with symbols and theme. As stated many times on here "less is more"

TOC - Broken Arrow, OK - July 18

Just because it replicates the source material doesn't mean it's a good idea to put in a drum corps show -
This is an excellent musical change, much better. Also sounds more "Cadet"-like

I'll be honest. After the theater broadcast, I was not very enthusiastic about this show (maybe it was the multicam and terrible mic placement, idk). However, now that it has been cleaned up some, the performance level of the members has increased dramatically. I saw a recent run-through and thought....oh wow! They're good! Looking forward to the ending; hope its big, powerful, and dramatic

SCV 2017 - 50 Years of Class
Brass34 replied to Clutchtow's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I really really hope this show scores well in the end. #MakeDrillCoolAgain This show is modern yet incorporates many traditional elements with the drill and colorguard. Sheer power that I think is missing in many drum corps shows today. My only critique deals with the props. I think they are wonderful and are utilized in unique ways throughout the show. However, when the colorguard/brass members move them around or lift them up and down, they have some of the same issues the 2015 Cadets had. It will be a struggle to get all the props raised and lowered in unison. Just an observation; hoping they can figure it out -

Who said Cadets were going to beat Bloo? Nobody. Just that the gap is smaller. Doesnt really matter because (as it was pointed out) it's a partial panel -

Not a single person in ALL of DCP has said this. Try to find and quote a post that says Cadets will win it all....you wont find it. All someone did was express optimism in the trend of scores for the Cadets and you felt the need to stomp all over it and insinuate something that wasnt said -
The guard staff has finally gelled into what many of us were expecting it to be. Took a while, but theyre doing a great job

I havent been able to find any videos of run throughs. Someone help me. I hated the theater broadcast so have been looking for a better perspective

To me, this is like saying BD needs to stop doing space chords. No lol.

I remember when the Crown thread used to be all sunshine and unicorns. My my have the times changed

You can add me to your group. I disliked it at the premier, and I disliked it at finals. Just not enjoyable for me
-
Wow. The choir is wonderful. I usually dont enjoy singing in drum corps but they blend in very well
-
I would be concerned, except they're being redone so i'll wait before blasting them
-
These look better than the silver tennis shoes Crown was wearing the other day lol

Henry. You've literally made the same post with almost identical wording about 20 times now. I think we all understand your opinion. You don't have to keep making the same post over and over. You come across as spam or a troll when you do that. I respect your opinion and thank you for sharing, but you sound like a broken record at this point.
-
You are the only person that I have seen that shares this view. So forgive me if I take your opinion with a grain of salt

Ashamed? Uhh no. Welcome to the 21st century. Men shouldnt be "ashamed" to read romance novels. Men shouldnt be "ashamed" to order a fruity drink at a bar. Men shouldnt be "ashamed" to wear the color pink. Men shouldnt be "ashamed" to cry during a sad movie. And NO WAY should they be ashamed to wear this costume and march for an amazing organization. Im sorry your masculinity is so fragile

Medea has been used fairly often in drum corps, much less so in the high school band world. But go to any high school marching band competition and you'll likey come across a group playing music from Wicked.

Everything is great until the vocalist enters. Would be much more effective if there was less of her. Some of it I like, but it's too much. Love the horns, but overall im not feeling this show like in past years, YET. Still plenty of time to change my mind. But right now im "meh" Also, playing music from Wicked....I cant help but think of the THOUSANDS of high school bands across the country that have played it too. An odd choice for an elite group IMO. Part of the reason Bluecoats feel so innovative and fresh is because they find music most people have never heard before

Oh absolutely. Of the shows I go back and listen to regularly, usually they are not the shows that won. But this is a competition. And placing as high as you can motivates the members to practice 12+ hours every day for months. Fans want that validation of which corps they like best. But the members definitely want that validation too. It's not the ultimate goal, but it incites drive and ambition, which is what we were talking about
