  1. The question was about (as I read it, at least) only about how many "ties" they could have. Not where the "ties" occurred. You are correct that if you consider where the ties occur, there is either six or seven. My mistake if I read the question wrong. Sorry. Went back to look. This is what I was responding to: " there are 7 different outcomes for ties in 1st and second positions among 3 corps."
  2. There are also quotes of Hey Jude that have been in the show from the beginning.
  3. No, there are only 3 possible 2 team ties. Consider 3 teams A B C You can have AB or AC or BC If they all tie you have ABC (which would be 4) Notice that BA CA and CB are duplicates and not distinguishable from AB AC and BC. But maybe you have another analysis I have not figured out.
  4. Yeah, I noted that once in the last 20 years they were 6th. One year does not make a trend. If there is a trend, during the last 20 years they have been in double digits more and more frequently. It would be good to see that change.
  5. Well, their last stretch of "Top 6" ended in 1999. Which is 20 years ago, right? Many (most) MMs today were, if born, still in diapers. If that is your criteria as a destination corps, then its one hellofava long time ago. Since 1999, they have placed 6th once, and 12 years (plus this year) they have been in the double digits. They do have a grand tradition, as do many of the corps, but tradition does not equate with excellence. If the alumni are Mad(ison) (sorry, could not help myself), they need to band together (should be something they know about) and do something. Raise (a lot of) money. Volunteer. Work along side of the management and help them. Join the board. Tour with them and encourage the MMs. Lots of things to do. But carping on a discussion board does not do the trick.
  6. Heck, I was born in '46 so the music of the 40s and 50s were on in my house all the time. And the 60s was my decade. Entered HS in 61 and graduated from college in 69. Have they been making music since then?
  7. Right, having a son with multiple saxophones, a clarinet and a flute, I can attest to the fact that maintenance is difficult. And he never marched, let alone traveled 10000 miles a summer competing. Those suckers are difficult animals.
  8. How about surrounding it with a few other Tunes? Chim Chim Cher-ee by The Sherman Brothers A Shooting Star by George Stiles, Anthony Drewe, and The Sherman Brothers A Spoonful of Sugar by The Sherman Brothers Practically Perfect by George Stiles, Anthony Drewe, and The Sherman Brothers Galop from Masquerade Suite by Aram Khachaturian Step in Time by The Sherman Brothers Feed the Birds by The Sherman Brothers Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious by The Sherman Brothers
  9. I just went back and looked at both jwillis35 and DrumManTx. Neither were suggesting that any corps do a MP show. Both suggested it was a fun show.
  10. They are trying to make a transition (or a bridge) to a more mature corps and widen the types of shows they can handle. I think they can do that and still remain "The Academy".
  11. DMTx (and others) were referring to Academy's 2015 show. It was a good fun D&B show. Don't thing they were suggesting they should do a MP show again.
  12. I agree completely. SCV in the 2000s and 2010s when they were finishing in the 4th to 7th range, almost always had one of my very favorite shows. They were good, very good. But since 2017 they changed. And for the better. Each of the last three shows have been excellent. Bluecoats started making a transition in 2013 (at least) and have been a leader since then. And the Blue Devils have been right up there using the new technologies and methodologies. Bluecoats do have an emphasis on tradition. Each year they spend an evening with "History Night" . I'm sure many corps do something similar. And they have their own traditions (penny, six words, Autumn Leaves). But they have made a new tradition of being innovative, fun, challenging the status quo, even making mistakes at times and learning from them. I also agree about Crown's show. Good/Great Show. I like it. But it is a 4/5 show at best. And I see why you equate their show to classic Cadet shows. Cadets can again become competitive and I would love to see this. They have tried to use electronics effectively, but I don't think they have been successful. They have tried "costuming", but again do not seem comfortable with what they are doing. I've expressed it elsewhere, they need to do a fun show about something or nothing important, just good music, with a visual package that communicates that fun. Dark Shows, Relevant Shows, Important Shows should be forgotten.
  13. Might want to re-word that sentence. At least two people were confused.
  14. No, I think he/she was referring to the following: "I know the current corps is working hard and performing at the top of their ability, but you can't polish a turd."
  15. Wrote something, but erased it. I think that some with a Cadet background have difficulty seeing the future without a large component of the past. There is something about having too much history.
  16. You may be right, but it still looks like they would be trying to go forward by looking to the past. This does not work very often.
  17. They are above SCVC. Not sure if that makes any difference. Gold is above them.
  18. I'm not sure that going out and cherry picking from Crown and Boston is the way to go. I'd much rather "the powers that be" were looking closely at some of the WGI designers who are "up and coming". I think a design team of "young and hungries" might be a better fit to re-energize the Cadets. (will duck and cover)
  19. They learned the new version about a week ago and were keeping it under wraps. Every day, changes go in ... at least at the Bluecoats, they do. Always improving the product.
