  1. Life's risks can never be eliminated. I remember the health and public officials in NYC saying they had no fear of covid-19 and that Chinese New year celebrations were a go and everyone should come on down to canal st. Same type of reaction was going on in San Fran. Looks bad now I agree. The numbers in Texas , Arizona, and Texas have been declining. Strange how places such as Texas Arizona Florida did not re implement a hard shut down but only scaled back some of the reopening. Yet the numbers are going in the right direction. Seems like common sense distancing , hygiene, and wearing a mask in a closed public space is the way to go. Not a shutdown.
  2. I hope you feel better. My best friend just got over it 2 weeks ago. He never really got serious just fatigue and a fever, no chills , body aches or headaches. Had a dry cough which has stuck with him even after 3 weeks. From what I experienced it took a week to regain energy and I only had the fever for 1 night the cough stuck around for a month. That was back in Feb. I got the anti-body test in June to confirm my suspicion. I had been traveling internationally from USA - Japan - China - Japan - USA during Jan and Feb. When I got back home about 3 days later I got the worst cough and wheezing crackling lungs ever. It was almost instant with the cough. I tried to self medicate but after 2 days it was really bad. Went to an Urgent Care. They did x-ray and said I had pneumonia - gave me some type of roid shot along with antibiotics - steroid pills & an inhaler albuterol. They recommended I see a pulmonologist which I did a day after my initial urgent care visit. Pulmo did a chest ct scan lung capacity breathing test and confirmed I had pneumonia. Was given some different medications but basically stuck with the zithromax and roids. I thought later in March that I might have had covid but sorta brushed it off. No one else that I know off at work or in my social life got sick that I know of. I take plaquenil for my rheumatoid arthritis so I guess it did not work to keep me from getting it or did it aid in my fighting it off? Who knows. Eventually my boss suggested I go get the test as it is free and it would be good info to know.
  3. Statistically speaking you must live in a hot bed of Covid-19. I reside in 3 largest populated city in the USA and I don't know anyone who died from it. Then again the percentages of death for this per million per 100 thousand is off the charts in the North East. The disparity of deaths per cases is shocking.
  4. Back on millions hu? You can't beat the disease. You can have a vaccine sure. What about polio? Tuberculosis? AIDS? We did not beat it. We have got it down to not a health crises but it many diseases are not beat. Science right?
  5. According to the CDC numbers the deaths and ICU takes a large % increase at 65. If I was a teacher over the age of 60 then I would opt out of in school teaching. It would make sense to have that option for those teachers school employees.
  6. It's the new phrase that can be a catch all. Face it though if you are in the 65-74 , 75-84, 85 and up age groups then you need to be full on mask, distance and lock-down. The rest of the age groups should be proactive in distancing / mask's but it seems from the info that you can go to school, work and outside will practicing those precautions without too much fear.
  7. I saw today some pictures posted by a friend on another social media platform of a marching band rehearsal. The High School kids looked happy. It was in New Hampshire.
  8. The primary ages of the WGI and DCI members is 15 to 24 and the deaths and hospitalizations for that age group is very low. Seems like if they wear masks and distance then there is a chance to get schools up and running which will eventually lead to WGI and DCI on the road again.
  9. What was the crowd standing along a street for? All of them were wearing no mask's outside? Went for my run late yesterday evening, was at the park with hundreds wearing no mask.
  10. Fixed it. My mistake. Your first sentence reminds me of green eggs and ham.
  11. My statement "nothing we can do about it" was pointing out that State and Local School officials are going to either open or not and that we here on this message board can do nothing about it. Same with business they are open all through the country. With respect to your post. I don't see in the news article that She passed away because she contracted covid-19 at school. Sad story no doubt but there is no connection to schools is there?
  12. Could be risky. No one is debating. Schools everywhere are Not going in person and going in person. The choice is not up to parents so it is what it is. Some places will have band rehearsals and some will no doubt continue to do colorguard , indoor percussion during this time. Not a single thing we can do about it.
  13. rpbobcat is not a "TV talking head" they gave their own take on what it's like in their geographical location. Indicating that more parents are wanting their children to return to in-person learning. Previously you mentioned that you had a choice to go to the state you are at now correct? The kids going to school will be practicing music and color-guard. It is a good thing or not?
  14. In most places what you describe is the reality. Where I'm at they went through a spike in July and are now back to June numbers for infections rate, hospitalizations and deaths. From the projections at the medical centers it should be similar to what you describe by end of august or beginning of sep. The local public schools are back in person already with a few exceptions, the parents were given a choice in many cases to continue online. Some investigative reporting showed that previous semester the largest district could not contact or find somewhere between 20 to 40 thousand students for online classes. Those children will be forgotten / out of school unless in person classes return.
  15. Sorry that you were triggered by the "get a handle on it" statement but that is exactly what restaurants and businesses do when they get either one person or many with the virus. In some cases they shut down for 2 weeks and have the place cleaned and disinfected. It has happened to a restaurant I order from and it happened to an office building that was being built out, one of the trades got the virus. They shut the job site down and everyone were tested, site was cleaned and they returned to work. Why can't schools work in the same manner? What is different about the schools? On the job site I mentioned there were at the very least over 100 workers in and out of 2 floors where the square footage per person was similar to a classroom that has been spaced out. The bands can then get back to practice and getting the arts and academic education they need. Not to mention the social health aspects. Not sure who the "arragance" arrogance? and irresponsibility comment is directed.
  16. So how many grocery stores / restaurants / construction sites have closed and reopened in your geo area? It happens all the time where I'm at. If there is a infection with one or many the company will shut down to get a handle on the spread. Then they reopen. That seems like a normal action now. Should not be any different with schools.
  17. Yeah I understand you and even though I replied to your post was not saying you were pointing out any member as antivax.
  18. Cook Medical Cook Medical was the first company to package the three primary components for percutaneous catheterization— needles, wire guides, and catheters — in one set. Wilson- Cook endoscopy leader. So many things that it is hard to believe.
  19. No one on the forum is anti - vax The polling data for the group that do not want to get the covid vaccine if it comes available is interesting. The list of prominent celebrities people who are anti-vaxxers is troubling. Some have changed their tune since March?
