  1. For clarity, what am I being unrealistic about? I’m not proposing Cavaliers do a full rebuild. Most of your examples did? Not arguing… seeking clarity…
  2. Drones...early and often...with silks attached...flying hellbent for leather over the corps in formation. New position in the corps...drone pilot. Yes...I'm kidding.
  3. And of course, the Blue Devils had no show last year..."serious" (whatever that really means) or not...and they won their 20th title.
  4. Kinda fried with work...looking at this over a quick lunch...so i'm not going to go back edit I'm speaking of decisions being made by the Cavaliers...not Madison.
  5. Good, bad, or ugly....the phrase "give it a few years" and modern day drum corps don't mix. Kids nor their parents are juiced about paying $5K to be part of a "maybe it will work" rebuilding experiment. The Cavaliers have a brand built around the brotherhood of an All-Male corps. I don't work for nor speak for the organization, but my semi-educated opinion of the organizations priorities says this issue isn't even on the list of things to consider moving forward.
  6. And how has Madison done since? I can assure you over discussions with people who know the current priorities and concerns of the corps that this issue has absolutely nothing to do with anything.
  7. Not quoting this as gospel, but I'm fairly sure Cavaliers have 46 ageouts instead of 38. Not sure where the 38 came from ( i.e. counting heads in a photo or a published list) and can't guarantee 46 is correct. My information is anecdotal.
  8. Very well could be. I wasn't specifically out checking on the Cavaliers Color Guard this Spring or any of the other 5 my son marched. But 2022 is the first year I've seen them run social media ads to fill multiple slots...one ad stating 10 slots...in the Spring. That was a first for me. But again..observational...not researched.
  9. Cool! That was my son saluting them on on the left 40!
  10. As a FMM parent and a fan for a couple of decades,I did notice in the Spring that they were still recruiting guard and it concerned me.
  11. Oh...I totally agree with that statement! Said the same to my wife last night during the show. I just saw you include Cavaliers for not touring like Crown, SCV, BD, etc. and wanted to note that they did indeed tour. No more no less...I'll leave it to the thread todecide how serious the design was...
  12. Well...I guess you could watch it yourself and decide. They wore their traditional greens, only had one round stage prop, and played a "Rose-based theme" based on a swing cafe...so I'd say sure...it was a regular show
  13. That's not remotely true. There can be plenty of reasons someone leaves a staff besides placement. And now I appear to be trying to be "that guy"...so that's it from me. Not all moves planned prior. Decisions not made on placement. Thanks.
  14. Love it...and isn't that what you're supposed to do...play what's on the page? Who cares if it's a 4th partial to ....blah blah blah....( hope my kid doesn't read me saying this...)
  15. You lost me here...maybe...I'm reading this as you were not a music major thrust into a large group of music majors? Is that correct?
  16. It is SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER now. I type up the inroduction bios for the new Cavaliers for the Parents blog...I'm saying about 40 percent are Mus.Ed. majors...maybe higher.
  17. Agreed. I'm a parent of a 5-year after being a 2-year in DCA. I counted the money as "tuition" because he's going to be a band director and there's not better education for an aspiring band director, especially one who aspires to lead in the marching world. But I know that everyone doesn't see it that way or have the means to justify it. So yes..a huge issue. That when I tried either here or on the Facebook version of here to offer ideas about reduction...I got yelled at as if I'd never been around the activity. It had to have been the FB version. Because if it happened here...I wouldn't be here any more. 🙂
  18. 2023 Predictions: 1. At least one corps figures out how to incorporate drones and drone pilots into their show. DCP argues whether or not the pilots should be students who count against the number limit or professionals. 2. The Blue Devils release their drill, brass and perc books, guard choreography, and uniform design next week for 2023 with a message on DCP that says..."we're gonna win again...#####es. If you want to try to beat us...march the exact same show and out perform us. Other than that? STFU. " 3. The Cavaliers go all-Female. March a show titled "Women Are From Venus" themed around Roe v. Wade and witn their 8th DCI title. 4. The Bluecoats can't field a corps because they can't get the peyote and tequila out of their system from the 2022 show. 5. Santa Clara finally decides after 3 or 4 years of PJ's uniform to march a show completely nude. 6. Someone with a lot of money re-starts the Bridgemen. And they violate every possible DCI rule...and the fans love them for it. 7. The Mandarins do an 11-minute rock and roll show. Charles then wins American Idol. 8. Phantom Regiment has a female DM with long blonde hair that is kick-### ( Claire, that was tongue in cheek....if you're reading this you know our family loves you). Because that's now part of their "look". That's just for starters.
  19. Not the ageout number. I sat in LOS last year when the ageouts hit the field by Corps. There wasn't another corps even in the same ballpark of the number of ageouts as Cavaliers. And of course will gladly admit I'm wrong if the data says otherwise and some corps just didn't have their people on the field for ageout. But it was a stark difference.
  20. Cavaliers had 79 ageouts in 21...and right at 100 new Cavaliers on the field last night. Should they do well with retention for 2023...look out!
  21. Visual analysis. Percussion. Somehow the Cavaliers forgot how to execute to those parts of the sheet on the very last night of the season. 🙂
