  1. This is true..but man, they were comfortable.
  2. Thanks Nikk..I suppose we can disagree on the middle section..I can say that the amp issues are valid insofar as projection..still working on that! To answer your question..Crown's Brass arranger is Micheal Klesch, the show coordination is by Jim Coates. Percussion arrangements are by Paul Rennick.
  3. OK.. Of a 11 min show, less than one min. is backfield..(the opening chords of Bohemain, and that is at a doubletime) Funny..the CG finished 3rd in Louisville..I guess opinions vary.
  4. Note: Crown's pit is not amped. Only the singers and narration are amped..
  5. Amen! Now, you better come armed with a music degree and a line of credit. Rocketman - Old Phart ampssuck Whatever <**> Some of the best teaching I have ever seen or experienced has happened in god forbid..modern drumcorps. I doubt any of you have been to a rehersal since the friggin' Carter administration so how would you know..or care for that matter. :sshh:
  6. An interesting note about this: Jeff Queen has the snares at Crown play on Mylar the whole winter and almost all of the Everydays camp. The thinking is "if they can play clean on mylar...imagine Kevelar!"
  7. Nope.. Those horns were Olds Ultratones..All two valve except for piston-rotor contras. It wasn't until the mid 80's that Spirit bought a few king baris, altos, and euphs. King didn't even manufacture bugles until the 1980's. When I marched there in 89-90, Spirit was still using some of those Old(s) :P horns.
  8. OK here goes.. Imagine the Devs..Decked out in their new uniforms..(black BD style, clasp at the collar Jacket with silver chain accross the middle, Pleated (modern, not 70's) tuxedo shirt with black studs, Black Cummerbund with silver sequin border trim and a drop sash, Grey pants with white stripe, shiny grey patent jazz shoes, and a black shako with silver trim and white plume.) Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City MO, August, 1988. Since I Fell For You..final push..Big Loud Chords.., with TRI-PA-LET ending.Contras resolve to a low C.. Top bass starts what sounds like a tap off (complete with high mark time)..but.. The horn line comes back in..gradually focusing on a couple of soprano soloists ..(who's hands are full of championship rings worn outside their gloves.. :) ) Back and forth sopranos, with a few kneeling contras to accompany them..as the contras again resolve to to a low C, top soprano rips it up HIGH.. The whole time the rest of the corps has been lining up and heading for the tunnel..small ensemble follows after bows.. That ladies and gents, is a playoff!
  9. Fine then, does anyone know what a Yamaha tuba weighs? About 18 lbs.
  10. No. the only things you have to memorize are show music and other tunes. This, however, is later..
  11. Relax..Just play a your prepared solo.. The staff is concerned mostly with your tone quality, intonation and range. Remember that you have to march also..I would work on your movment in addition to playing. Just call or email the corps office or email Matt Harloff (Brass caption head) with any questions.
  12. You prepare your own solo. The brass staff wants you to select a piece that will show your range, TQ, etc.. Just relax..its not a high pressure situation.. :)
  13. Excuse Me? The Scouts are by no means required to discuss personell matters (read: private) in an open forum. These matters are between the corps management/board and the individuals involved. In all reality..It is none of our concern. Period :sshh: Let us remember this. Percussion had been a weak point for Madison for years..and the corps is trying to address this. This has to do with the corps reaching the next echelon competitivly and educationally. :) Those fired percussion guys will always be Scouts..and they will never walk alone. :)
  14. Nobody. It is write up decrying the change in staff at Madison.. Sigh.. :(
