  1. Hey Crossmen, Congrats on your accomplishment this weekend but one night show is not our goal!! It's killing me to miss my first tour in 6 years and read about how well you are doing; I can't wait to see everyone at DCI east. -joel
  2. phantom 93, 8:10 so powerful, it gives me chills every time.
  3. By the OP's standards, the answer is clearly: Star 1993 Star 1991 Star 1990 Star 1992
  4. his embrouchure is better than mine
  5. I'm going to throw in my two bits... but I'll admit I have not read all 17 pages. First of all, I come from a corps with it's own image and design problems so I'm not trying to disparage in anyway way shape or form. I don't take offense when people bring my corps problems to light because it can only help make us stronger. Here's the thing: an irish theme is ok... but that's all it is, there's nothing to the theme this year other than "it's kinda irish". I feel like you could literally slap this show concept on any show that pioneer has done in the past few years and no one would blink an eye. If at the end of the show, someone who has never seen the show concept says "I feel like I just went on a panoramic tour of Ireland" I will eat my words, but I feel like someone is far more likely to say "That was some nice irish sounding music". This is not a good thing!! Even if you are going to stay in a theme, you need room to manuever... sure phantom has a classical theme but Look at the shows of the past three years and each one had a distinctive feel, personality and themes. Not to mention that there is so much more to ireland than the st. patrick's day/clover leaf sort of thing that seems to be the recurring theme. Play some U2 or something for goodness sakes! I wish the utmost success to pioneer this season
  6. I was only suggesting it as an encore tune... a great time for a corps to perform crowd favorites from past years.
  7. Boston and Crown, every year :) most effective cheese: You are my sunshine, from Crossmen 97, and the baseball sequence in Cavies this year. I do not think Cadets were cheesy this year. BD is so professional that it never comes across as cheese, even when they take naps on cots. Jersey surf is a welcome breath of cheese, if that makes any sense
  8. just in case crossmen arrangers are reading this PLAY BIRDLAND AS A STANDSTILL TUNE!!!! that would make me very happy
  9. and 2005... first one who knows where it was in the show gets a cookie. It is my personal opinion that the crossmen should play birdland as an encore tune next year. The Crossmen had some raucous encores this year (anyone at west chester?) and that would just take it over the top
  10. It irks me that the completely untrue "Crossmen are a feeder to the Cadets" statement always seems to come from people who think it should stop. This attitude wouldn't even exist if people didn't perpetuate it in commentary on the Crossmen. If you think this is just wishful thinking on the part of Crossmen fans, consider that not one brass player who began the season with the crossmen in the past 4 years (i.e. didn't fill a hole) has moved on to cadets in the following year, even kids who came in and openly said "I'm going to march a year of Crossmen for experience then go to Cadets" Eagerly awaiting staff announcements...
  11. if this thing was a big success, then I will happily stand corrected :) Sorry I didn't get to see it tonight, I'm dealing with finals at the moment (the bad kind of finals, not the august kind :( ) and of course I appreciate how much many of the people here enjoyed the format and presentation now, when is our espn coverage coming? :)
  12. I've refrained from posting this until now because I'll pull for anything DCI does to be successful, but from the beginning this whole thing has seemed like a poor marketing choice for the activity. It seems the goal of teaming up with Regal would be to bring drum corps to a larger audience, especially band kids, and having 50% of this broadcast be from an era when the target audience wasn't even born yet seem weird to me. Don't get me wrong, I have the utmost respect for old school drum corps, but unlike football (and like figure skating) drum corps is an activity that does not age well to modern eyes. I would have been much more interested in a produced recap of last season, showing the top 12 shows from finals and high-quality behind the scenes stuff, including perhaps a build-up type approach following regional scores as the season progressed, and hopefully a big teaser for this season. The type of program that was shown last night seems to be more something that would be shown at midnight on DCEN Classic :) what say you?
  13. back in march I did a march-madness style elimination thing with 32 favorite shows. Phantom 89 and SCV 89 were both included but didn't go head to head. If I remember correctly Phantom 96 outdrew both SCV 89 and Phantom 89 in their matchups, then lost by a wide margin to Star 93 in the finals.
  14. .4 doesn't really mean much... those kind of numbers means the judges were pretty much split. And remember, those fracked notes only influence the scores of 2 or 3 out of all the judges. (personally I like phantom better as well, but I'm not about to say scv stole it)
