  1. They could make the jump, definitely. If mandarins are keeping pace with THOSE two corps in any caption(or at least lingering behind a reasonable degree) they are a solid finalist, probably around 8-9 is their ceiling for this year, but they’ll be pushing everyone down there in that 7-12 range to keep improving!! I really don’t think their other caption scores are gonna be as polarizing either with that incredible spread between GE 1 and 2, very weird there, it’ll definitely even out for them.
  2. For me an ideal venue, even without the amenities is a decent to great high school stadium where there’s not nearly as much distance from the field to the stands, that is tough to beat if you choose to be right there near the front stands!!🔊🔊
  3. There have been quite a few occasions where DCI have dragged their feet in matters of these and similar cases, people wouldn’t already be saying DCI needed to improve if they were doing their utmost to respond to what is occurring either by staff or by the marching membership to other MM’s.
  4. It’s a very refreshing offering, I will say. It’ll definitely be the best ballad of the season, by a mile, and a heck of a serotonin booster haha
  5. Oh yeah of course, didn’t think you meant it that way either. BD has considerably more highs in the “VIBE” department(lol) I think, compared to SCV, the serotonin booster that is still definitely a bit rough around the edges and it’s very apparent haha, but they’re definitely making those arrangements really sparkle and their improvement of course from the start of the season has been great to hear. I solely heard and didn’t watch the shows tonight, I can always do that in the rebroadcast tomorrow👀
  6. SCV’s hornline sounded great, not many complaints from me, very good very good. And yes, BD has considerable room for improvement, but that’s not to their detriment, as their POTENTIAL product that they can put out there with their hornline will be fantastic come August.
  7. 2016 BD is not often talked about but I appreciate BD going out of their comfort zone in how bombastic it really was🔊🔊🔊 2017 BD was purely self-referential and it’s all of their essence as it was their diamond anniversary show, and it had a lot of heart put into its music and design, it was the peak of my “BD hater” days(purely for the sport of wanting my other favorites to win of course, I was a high school kid haha) I went out of my way to not watch it, and then I forget exactly when, both the 2017 and 2018 showing of prelims at the theaters I saw BD in prelims the first time that season and it was great, but it went out of my memory quickly as I wanted SCV to win regardless(lol) but in 2018 after the entire prelims show ended and the scores were being calculated they showed the previous year’s winner which was BD 2017 and I was with my friend, who likes BD quite a bit more than I do, he asks me, “do you think SCV should’ve won last year” and I emphatically said back “Oh no, no no no!!” The show just kept getting better and better as it went, it has what i want in any show in just to simply have some heart and emotional relatability and it had that in droves. So yeah long story short, my favorite BD show is a show that deliberately tries to be as BD as possible which is not something I would’ve thought I’d have said back then haha
  8. 2012 was simply…a triumph, I truly envy anyone that got to see that show live😭😭
  9. I think it’s fair to say both are obvious. For me I personally don’t think the same kind of structure that BD does really makes this show this year feel formulaic however. They have a bit of a different sound than in past years, they really take their time with this year’s ballad in particular, something a lot of corps are either fudging entirely or are taking not nearly enough time to build up to. The percussion arrangements always bring something interesting to the table, the only thing that feels super samey is their closer, I can picture 2019 in it’s place without the shiny coat of violin paint, but who knows what the final version of that will turn out to be if there’s more changes to come there.
  10. The mics weren’t hot during the first parts of BD, but they certainly were for that ballad😮😮😮 THEY WOKE UP!!! For that and the rest of the show!! And yeah, it’s the best ballad of DCI this year and I don’t even think it’s close tbh
  11. Best musical run from SCV so far…question mark?? Haven’t heard them at all their shows they’ve attended but they sound quite quite good tonight👀
  12. Having done a few ushering events at large stadiums, I do feel for those that have to deal with seat hoppers, I do know though that if someone comes up to me and says that someone ain’t movin’ I’ll make sure that they do, people either act oblivious or entitled when it gets to that point though and it can be frustrating! Also yeahhh, my backpack would definitely not be within what stadiums typically allow, I think for those that want to be able to bring in what they need to an event there should definitely be some clear strap bags that are in between a full on backpack and Fanny pack that should suffice. People are just incredibly stubborn I guess.
  13. I imagine that, according to them, the flippant, manipulative, and disrespectful attitudes and verbal lashing coming from top guard staff and the CORPS DIRECTOR(!!!) would be just as harmful to the individual’s state of mind as physical abuse. Of course I’m not here to say either is more impactful than the other, you feel powerless in both situations, especially with the power dynamics being presented in this person’s situation that they were put through. Calling it simply “Verbally induced anxiety” really reduces what the person had to go through
  14. Also my commentary isn’t really directed towards Boston at all, it’s obvious to many that they’re in a good place and that’s all we can hope for for not just them, but every corps on your this summer. Let’s recall that there were some corps that didn’t field even an exhibition show or go on tour last year and the last full competitive year was 2019, which is crazy to think about. this comment in no way is directed towards Boston. It’s apparent with how some corps are cutting back on the tours, membership issues with some corps and filling spots, and that’s ok. 2022 isn’t a make-or-break year for DCI, but a stepping stone for many corps for the years to come
  15. I mean sure, ambition wise, everyone wants and is looking to do their best to make this season the best they can be, I don’t refer to only on-the-field performance when I call this a rebuilding year
  16. One thing I noticed in BD’s notable absences is their minimal Texas presence, them not coming to my neck of the woods in DFW at all kinda stinks. I’m not gonna be at their throats about it either though, it’s a rebuilding year for EVERYONE, Crown can potentially come back to the northeast under more ideal conditions and to where the burden isn’t passed on to the membership. Everyone is cutting back to an extent
  17. One of those “fanboy” channels features BD more than Crown on it, on a channel that has nearly half a million subscribers on YouTube, I’m not gonna roll my eyes on the “God’s hornline” title card when the more important aspect of what they’re doing is displaying the talent that drum corps and DCI. The top video has 1 million views!!
  18. I am a huge fan of Crown and their hornline, I know you’re not saying this as a whole blanket statement, but I’ve consistently been very hopeful and positive about Boston and their season prospects, they ooze of the underdog, the counted out dog that I enjoy rooting for, I wish them all the success they’re able to attain this season, we’ll see where they end up👀
  19. I know that, and even then Crown stands out a lot of the time
  20. Even then if you try the movie theater, depending on how good the screening is, it can be very hit and miss, listening live is always the way to go. And yet I always try my luck in the theater screenings ‘cause I enjoy going to them haha
  21. I mean sure, that’s fair, I’m just simply trying to say the top 3 haven’t even met yet. I’m not even really “rooting” for Bloo’s show to win, even though they’re one of my favorite corps in general as well. We have to see where everyone is placing relative to each other, especially when each product is so different from each other. There are such a thing as trends when things continually occur when trying to predict what the final outcome will be, and there’s so much of a season left to be played out. People were predicting Bloo to trounce Crown in GE in their first meeting and never look back last week and it didn’t come close to playing out that way. And yes quite a few of my favorite shows were the runner’s up and 3rd placing shows as well, even further on down, I agree with that haha
  22. Not really responding to you but ummm, for a particular hornline(Crown) when you hear them, oftentimes you know they are taking the brass crown home, especially hearing their tuning sequence warm up when it’s the most godly. Percussion is the same deal for those that are more inclined in those areas, although, what one would classify as a warm up becomes more and more muddy, along with guard. Sometimes you can just tell haha Edit: in Crown’s recent brass crown losses(2015, and 2018)I enjoyed the lot and warmup footage quite a bit more from Cadets and SCV respectively, so i was like they could win brass!! I was more certain about that with Vanguard that year, such a monster of a sound, I loved it haha. I’m more mixed on 2014 and their loss to BD from what I heard, but I’m definitely not hating on their win there!
  23. Bluecoats won 2016 finals night in the music caption outright and tied Crown in 2019 iirc, I think the main issue for them this year is they potentially slip in that caption and Crown gets closer in Visual, which along with the color guard by all accounts returning to previous typically top-3 levels. The margin between the top 4 in music in 2019 was less than 3 tenths of a point, I find that really weird, of course every corps has their strengths, but even then I feel there should be more of an edge given to those that come out on top in the music caption compared to the GE and visual captions, we’ll probably see that this year I think if crown solidifies their edges in brass and boosts their scores in percussion. Bluecoats will need to not slip and maintain pace with them and BD, and we don’t even know how they will score musically compared to BD until they meet. More data is needed on Crown-Bloo as well. But the recent historical trends when Bloo is contending for a title say that they really do keep pace with Crown and can even potentially beat them in the whole music caption.
  24. I uhhhh, do not think this hornline will become Crown’s best ever, they won’t be chopped liver of course, but the competition is…incredibly stiff…to say the least…
