  1. There are a select group of people here who complain a thread is off topic.
  2. Not getting into the authority issue when it becomes life vs. death. That ship has sailed and to me it resembles the Titanic.
  3. I find it interesting that certain people like to reflect on how wrong scientists and other authorities were with regard to the pandemic as it was unfolding, as if they somehow purposely mislead the public. People demand answers and if others are wrong, they love to criticize in some sort of a higher-than-mighty position as newer facts are revealed. Someone recently commented about the virus on surface areas and how wrong the initial guidelines were. No allowance for revised scientific study to confirm that there was really little chance of transmission. Just that they were "Wrong!" and it's bad that they were. Maybe people would be best advised to pick up a copy of "Pandemic for Dummies" at the local bookstore. As for posting a Bill Maher video with his usual smug, pompous attitude, I ask only that prior shows be viewed when he was also on the alarm bandwagon. Oh how quickly the public always forgets.
  4. I really have no idea why you get those messages except to say that some people are so severely lacking in social interaction.
  5. This was a long time ago, but I brought a friend of mine to a Montreal show in '91. I was blown away by Phantom and Cadets. I actually thought Cadets won - that show will never pale in my memory. L'Insolite played My Funny Valentine. That is what my friend appreciated. It was simple, beautiful and so melodic. That was an eye opener.
  6. Bus fumes make me nostalgic every time. I choose Indiana.
  7. If I see another Bill Maher video on DCP, I will put on my Harry Potter hat and disappear where no one will find me (except in the shoe department of the local Walmart).
  8. It's been a while so the passage of time may be affecting my memory, but didn't putting additional valves on bugles give them more flexibility when it came to arrangements? I thought earlier versions of bugles tied the hands of arrangers.
  9. I appreciate that others give their backgrounds in discussions. Those with history in the activity, who provide well thought out points, get my attention. It doesn't mean that I agree with what they say. It does however introduce perspective. We have many on this site with such backgrounds.
  10. I would be okay with woodwind soloists in the pit. I'm not keen on seeing sections of them on the field though. Horns up with flutes and clarinets really doesn't work. I appreciate the uniformity of an all brass section on the field. The activity has integrated vocalists now. Each year they are used it just gets better and better - and I was really against them when the rule changed. I think one of the finest examples is the 2018 Cadets rendition of Ara Batur. It chokes me up every time I hear it. Just beautifully done. Your example of Gabriel's Oboe is also well noted. A final note. You may have posted the video as a joke initially, but that Bari Sax player with the lawnmower reminded me of just how nice the Bari Sax sounds.
  11. Please define "social media flop" further. The current round of social media owners will read your comments from their gilded palaces while eating their grey poupon mustard sandwiches. You will make them laugh.
  12. I am in the 20 - 60 range. I haven't had any shots yet.
  13. I heard that getting both doses will make you appreciate 2ply more.
  14. "OK Boomer" makes me laugh. I trust that the people who say that will at one point have the exact type of label thrown at them. It will take time but it will definitely happen.
  15. While I would like to think ageism is only a problem with drum corps fans, it's been occurring in every realm in the history of social activity even before the age of the internet. I'm older. I think differently. I don't think the same as younger people do. That happens from experience. We are the product of every experience we have been through. I agree with what the author posted. I see it. I feel it. And I accept it. It's not a problem.
  16. I honestly read that as a general comment and not a personal attack.
  17. The same director who once felt that there needed to be less guard (1986)?
  18. The activity has always had phases. Looking back, there are times through the years that changes were introduced, only to be further changed, or forgotten later on. I remember a time in the '80s when many guards were not using traditional equipment. Some shows had no rifles and that was from some very prominent groups. The activity continues to evolve. Nothing is finite. Today's trends are tomorrow's memories.
  19. I get it thanks. I wanted to ask you, is this going to be your first summer marching with a corps?
