  1. They didn’t. I stood in line sweating for about 1.5 hours (no kidding) with my wife for two hot dogs and two bottles of water. Thought I was likely to get arrested defending my wife who wasn’t having the line cutting by the kids. I was never so glad to get to my seats. After that, my blood pressure, view, and show were terrific.
  2. Great show and venue. Went last year and only complaint was the concession situation. Blazing hot, hundreds of high school folks cutting line, and hours in line. Avoid the concession stands.
  3. I assume their will be a day coming up when the show title , uniform/costume, music, etc. will be announced as in recent years. Anyone know when this year's program reveal will be?
  4. Any news about any musical changes coming? The transition from the big company front push and soloist in the closer to the high tempo finish always seems too abrupt to me - hoping there might be finishing touches to come.
  5. Despite all the discussion of what happened and why at Broken Arrow, are all the members now doing well? Is everyone recovered from whatever the heat/illness issue was?
  6. Love the show this year. Cohesive and clean especially this early. Judges seem to like percussion less than other captions so far. When both content and achievement are lower than your competitors, what do you adjust first - changes to the book or just keep cleaning what you have? Both? I’ve always been curious about the process/philosophy for in season changes - pre-planned vs. response to judging.
  7. I understand that PR doesn't want much info out about the show just yet, but are there any general impressions to be shared from those who saw the community performance last night? How much of the show (i.e., drill) were they ready to perform? How did the crowd respond? Etc.
  8. How many 2022 age outs for PR going into 2023 season?
  9. https://youtu.be/cMMGWSX7va8 This link is from the Corey Bands winning performance of “A Brussels Requiem”. Whole piece is great but from 14:30 to the end is fire. Could do a whole show around the theme of “Requiem” - lots of classic (Mozart) as well as very modern source music.
  10. Henry7184, thanks for taking the time to give such a thorough reply by DM. I will watch and listen with these thoughts in mind. Thanks!
  11. https://youtu.be/cMMGWSX7va8 2018 British Open Brass Band Championship winning performance. Corey Band. “A Brussels Requiem” Checkout from 14:30 to the end. Whoa Nellie!!!
  12. Hemry7184, I have been a fan of the activity since 1977, but as a woodwind player never marched in a corps and so am even less qualified to judge - just know what I enjoy. Although I think with enough years of watching you can develop an eye and ear for what clean, excellent performance looks and sounds like. Based on your comments, what do you feel are the key elements of winning design? Why are only the few able to consistently achieve it? Is it that there are only a limited number of truly innovative design staff folks out there and the top five have them? Please share. Thanks.
  13. Can anyone with connections to the staff share any info on what the judges are telling them? I know we all wanted them to be scoring better. Hoping there is no discouragement in the corps - they are working hard and the crowd really responds!
  14. https://youtu.be/LaDHBY0-ghY This link is to “St. Magnus” by Yorkshire Building Society brass band at the 2004 European championship. Winning performance. Last section from 10:00 to the end would make a great closer. I can see this fitting PR or SCV style. Crown certainly has the chops to play it.
  15. While the power is there, the tone quality sounds pretty brash on video - may be different in person. The sonority that say Crown or Boston have is different even though they certainly also have power. I heard some say that the PR staff is intentionally having them really blow now to build endurance. If so, maybe they’ll round out the tone and balance as they clean?
  16. Thanks - been a reader of DCP for a long while just haven’t posted much.
  17. I never marched in any corps (not much call for clarinet players) but I’m a long time DCI fan - saw my first show in 1977. I remember when Drum Corps World was an actual paper that came in the mail. At least one year, maybe two, we also got feedback from the judges on many of the corps - I assume transcriptions of key aspects of their tapes. The names of the judges remained anonymous as I remember. I thought it was really interesting and gave good insight whether you agreed with it or not. Not sure why it was discontinued. Is is a completely crazy idea to get some version of that in today ‘s DCI world? We all debate with great angst the scoring. It seems hearing some of the feedback the various staffs are getting would be most enlightening or at least interesting. Flame away.
  18. My latest guesses: tier 1 - BD, Crown, Boston tier 2 - Bloo, SCV, Cadets tier 3 - Cavies, Mandarins, Stars tier 4 - Phantom (sigh), X-men, Colts
  19. After the last two shows, it seems there may be some cause for concern in terms of scoring. Not panic, but some concern. BS and Cadets continue to improve and Mandarins are right there. Colts and X-men are coming from behind. I thought when I saw the gaps in vis prof and perc achievement that design was still OK and execution just needed scrubbing. Now I wonder whether the design itself, as much as I enjoy it, is limiting. Thoughts? Anybody hearing anything from the staff? Still love the show myself and will cheer to the end.
  20. Seems that it would or at least could have some effect competitively. Every day of missed practice is important even early in the season. The other corps are cleaning and improving as we speak. Hard to play catch up if you miss too many days. The other unknown is the effect on the members’ strength and stamina for the tough practice schedule to come. Only time will tell. I’m sure the staff is on top of this. Praying for quick Regiment recovery. Your health and safety are the top priority. All your fans are so excited for this year's program and we are rooting for you!
  21. Anyone else think a reprise of Godspeed would be good? Maybe not stylistically appropriate after Mahler, but exciting way to finish?
