Sounds more like a Madison flop versus a BD show. But maybe. However I think BD would do this from a source material standpoint, but disguised as an abstract show concept that wasn’t literally about the history of jazz.

Looks like I missed out on this discussion but I’m a big supporter of BD doing Sweeney Todd. Mix of source material from the musical and BD doing what BD does best by pulling in other random crap. I think it would be epic and only their hornline has that stark sound to create the perfect soundscape for a show like this

Silent film era with some material from Sunset Boulevard the musical would be best. I still stand by BD needing to do a Sweeney Todd themed show

I would suspect maybe Soundsport gets moved to Wednesday? Maybe they do just say screw it and have them both at the same time. I mean heck more people in downtown is the city’s goal for keeping DCI around.

You know, it was interesting the lack of talk about SCV not being there at finals. No one really mentioned it. Now I don’t know if that’s just because everyone assumed they’d be back, as if the situation wasn’t as bad as Spirits or maybe it was the fact that this was just such an amazing year for DCI top to bottom it was almost easy to forget they weren’t there.

Sure but the sentiment is the stupid Facebook page cares more about a tiny snark comment over getting factual information out. At this point? Screw VMAPA. It’s time to watch it burn.

Larger problem with DCP: everyone takes everything way too literally. Again, I never stated BAC purposely put it out there as that. It just came off that way.

I've said over and over again DCI should provide information regarding the adjudication system and the philosophy DCI uses in regards to criteria being applied to the scoring system. The issue here is we have fans who demand backgrounds of judges to "justify" their ability to judge. That's DCI's job, not the fans. The problem I have is that as soon as you put out judge's bios, fans will start making all these highly incorrect assumptions about the way a particular judge score. "oh they marched here that's why they won" "oh they taught at such and such and that institution is where all these particular drummers came from so that's why they won". Now again, this isn't a DCI transparency issue when all the information is out there already. DCI would be better off utilizing resources to provide insight to the adjudication system to help fans understand that better. And if we really want to talk transparency, let's ask DCI where the hammer is as far as SCV goes. They sure gave it to Spirit and made them cleanup their act. But here we are watching SCV go down the tubes.

I have to respectfully disagree and find this argument to be an example of an issue with today's society. If someone really wants the info, it's out there. It shouldn't have to be spoon fed. And again, I see the real issue as fan's lack of understanding the adjudication system and philosophy and not so much needing to know a judge's background.

I mean purely speculative. But the whole Ahab (Boston) going for the white whale (First place at finals/ taking on BD). That first place trophy being that feat they are trying to reach. They killed the white whale every night until finals where they allowed the white whale to win (BD winning again).

Lol, it sure is funny gramps. I see the correlation of "I don't get how this show won" to "I must know every detail about the judge that allowed this show to win" No, you just don't understand the scoring process and the philosophy behind the criteria.

I'll agree to disagree on the overall safety issue here. But we pretty much have access to anyone's educational background that judges already. Simple google searches pulls that up for any judge you look at. I think claiming DCI isn't transparent about the "educational background" of the adjudicators is an excuse for not liking the way shows are scored. It would be far greater of a benefit for resources on the adjudication process and philosophy to be put out there over a judge's educational background.

Just came across this video. Appreciate the insight from it, even though I know it's all been hashed out on here over the years. Also just love the balls Boston had to do this show and as if the "white whale" wasn't also a slap in the face to BD (sorry not sorry), I think it's time for Boston to go controversial again.

WGI lists their judges and has bios. But scoring/judging in the WGI world appears less emotionally charged from the fans in comparison to DCI, BOA, Marching band in general. I do agree there should be more resources available about the judging process in general. I think that would be helpful. But unfortunately bios of judges to just add ammo to crazies out there I think would be dangerous. We all want to tout the importance of member safety, that has to go for the judges as well.

Hey now, technically speaking it was all on topic because it was a result of the topic at hand as to why a certain someone is no longer with BK. It just rabbit holed. But all the same hole.
