  1. If they go to the Mid-80's style green pants, I am assuming they will be using black shoes, as white shoes will not go well with green pants.
  2. To all former Scouts and current people associated with the organization. I would like to apologize for the comment that I made on the 2006 uniform theard concerning the look of the new uniform. I made a comment about not giving alumni dues and other comments which were tasteless, class-less, and down right embaressing to myself and the corps I hold so dear. Anyone out there I may have offended, upset, whatever, please accept my apology.
  3. I am totally not saying that I think you did a bad job or something, I just wish the Scouties had their own identity again, it's been a while since they have.
  4. I think it's ridiculous if a corps can not finish a show by the first performance. I don't think it has anything to do with challenge, or being too hard, its bad rehearsing or bad scheduling, these corps are supposed to have the "best of the best" and they have several weeks of rehearsals after camps before tour, shame on a corps that can not teach a show by the first performance.
  5. [ Comment removed due to personal shame and embaressment.
  6. Well...I hope they're better than the last few years. I hope they either go back to the 90's style or mid 80's with the white pants.
  7. I think the Crossmen are going to be just fine. I agree with those who are saying at least some corps have the guts to put clips out early season. As far as their brass sound I am sure that this is not their permanent sound, I can guarantee other corps would sound the same at this point-and I am not talking those corps taht are around the Crossmen level-I am willing to be that some of the "big boys" would be the same.
  8. When I write, I tend to write the music specifically for the group. I NEVER take placement into mind though. I have written for groups that have won shows and groups that have come in dead last. My priority is simply writing to the ability of the group and the directors desire. A few years ago in Illinois a group won a major show with easily one of the easist horn books in Illinois band, but it was tight, it was balanced, it had power, and the kids did great. A year later the same group had a similar show and got pounced on. In my world, everything should be based on day to day performance and nothing else should matter.
  9. So Mike....do you know if they are still available? We had them at my high school and I would like to use them for a show.
  10. One area that also hurts shows is that often times corps drop out of shows or do not tour all together, which hurts show. Let's say that a show sponsor had a performance order scheduled and all things running, and they had all the details worked out. Then corps X drops out, then corps Y, drops out, then corps Z drops out. All of a sudden a show that was going to be successful has 3 corps attending, people stop purchasing tickets because the corps they were intending on watching or travelling to see is not going to be at the show, and all of a the show that was going to make "Generic High School Band" money from hosting a show is going to be a finanical burden if they still host the show. SO...the show is cancelled. I think what it comes down to is two things. First off, corps need to get their act together. I find it very hard to believe that corps do not know until March, April, or May that they are not going to be able to get a corps down the road. These are not things that happen over night and if they are a "surprise" to people, well then the persons running each corps are #### fools. Secondly, if a corps is going to hold AN audition weekend, then they should have their deal set up pre-season-as early as September, so if they need to make adjustments to budget for possible show changes, or housing changes, they are able to do so. It's not DCI in my opinion, it's corps that are bleeding the activity financially. This can be blamed in part I guess on the fact that organizations such as Drum Corps Midwest are not around anymore to provide finanical gain for corps to perform at shows, but that has been gone for several years. ORGANIZATION PEOPLE, ORGANIZATION WILL HELP YOU!
  11. no, they were like a one-octave series of "bells" that were about a half inch cylinders that were at a varied length depending on pitch
  12. Do they still exist and where can I buy them! Percussionists help
  13. Every time I see VK I realize that I was born far too late to have truly enjoyed drum corps.
  14. He certainly did, and what a great year to do that. I mean, that insane chord at the end of Spirits masterpiece Let It Be Me, Madison's DM, wow I wish corps knew how to end shows with moments that make people talk about for years and years. Not saying that endings the last few years haven't been good, but I just don't see the longevity of such amazing endings like those, or even many endings in teh 90's.
  15. I actually thought his "Madison" was more "Cavaliers" I mean, check out that bicycle
  16. I also dig on 1997 Madison, I mean, it was my rookie year, lol. See, I can't really see eye to eye with the Cavaliers original shows because, well...I can't really get into them.. Not to say that those shows aren't ok, but...welll...if I was going to buy a cd at Borders or Best Buy and I had the choice between originals by Boerma or Saucedo, I will always choose Boerma. Probaby very biased, but oh well...i'm probably one of the only people on here who has only like 1 Cavaliers show since 2000, which was 2004, I just can't get into that other "music"
  17. Well... as a former Scout there are a few places I recommend. First off, just south of the stadium on Regent street...go to the Open Panty, or Open Pantry, which ever name you prefer. From there proceed to the Big 10 Tavern which is just east of the Open Panty Then follow it up with glazed donuts from the Greenbush Bakery-long johns are the best. Oh, and sleep at the Regent Apartments if possible....oh the memories
  18. Sleeping on the way to a show? You've got your whole life to sleep, I think your an idiot if you sleep on the way to a show. I'm probably a ######## for saying this, but I would hope that if a person sleeps on the bus ride to show, maybe they should be replaced...unless they're sick or dying.
  19. I say finals for sure. Last year I went to Madison for our home show. It was not a major anniversary year or anything, but still...it's the home show. I get there, watch all of the corps perform, including Phantom...just as the Scouties are set to rock my world, lightning comes in and the show is called. Granted, I did get to watch some great shows, including Phantom..oh how I loved that show..but my boys were robbed of an opportunity to perform. Not saying that will happen in Rockford this year, but if you only fly up for that one, what if the weather sucks. As Mike Boo said, go to Madison, Rockford isn't far, drive down and hang with people. Just my idea. Good luck
  20. I agree, and I think that Crown will be much more able to dive into this concept than most are giving them credit for. I have dug the Crown shows of the past few years, minus that whole show choir thing from 2004. I think it will be a great show.
  21. Please e-mail me at madcontra99@hotmail.com. The school is located on the southside of Chicago and is looking to move forward in design and instruction. Please write me with questions and your information so we can discuss in more detail. Thanks!
  22. When I marched everyone got a spot the next year, so long as there was not a blatant attitude problem. If you pulled your weight from year to year and were dedicated to the corps proper, you had your spot the next year.
