  1. have seen them 3 times this season. have seen the best ECJ and Spartans have put out - over years. it will be a slaughter. they are in no way a div. ii corps.
  2. Sick and feverish Glimpse of cherry blossoms Still shivering. wait, are we talking about the blue devils. i started yawning and my brain went to haiku.
  3. <**> what someone else would do in a given situation is irrelevant. our lives are our own. and by the way, we all know there are selfish band directors out there that will advise you in a way that allows them to get what THEY want. go march.
  4. classic advertising, perhaps. but the Cadets are offering something totally new (shocker huh?). This isn't a blog or a once and a while magazine show. This is going to be an everyday thing.
  5. hmm, best place to eat in Madison? well it used to be Star's kitchen truck, but now...
  6. drinking after finals? naw, doesn't happen. and if it does nobody gets drunk. /yeah right.
  7. always protect your chops during bus war.
  8. as an aside: Composers With Most Works Scheduled ScheduledPerformances Beethoven, Ludwig Van 677 Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus 647 Tchaikovsky, Piotr Ilyich 390 Brahms, Johannes 362 Dvorak, Antonin 349 Strauss, Richard 273 Haydn, Franz Joseph 268 Ravel, Maurice 242 Stravinsky, Igor 221 Prokofiev, Sergei 214 Mendelssohn, Felix 205 Shostakovich, Dmitri 204 Most Frequently Performed U.S. Composers ScheduledPerformances Copland, Aaron 128 Barber, Samuel 106 Bernstein, Leonard 79 Gershwin, George 75 Ives, Charles 59 Adams, John 47 Higdon, Jennifer 27 Rouse, Christopher 25 Corigliano, John 24 Daugherty, Michael 24
  9. it is true - copland's third is the most performed american symphony. just check american symphony orchestra league ASOL- they keep records for all north american pro orchestras. it was scheduled 7 times last season - 5 the prior season, etc, and copland is the most performed american composer. it is, however, played much less frequently than his other works. last season there were 128 copland performances, only 7 of those were the Third Symphony. Compare that to the number one symphony performed 71 times last season - Dvorak, Symphony No. 9 in E Minor
  10. he was 87 in 87. he was like "yeah, whatever." when your work has been played by the best musicians on the planet - a marching band ain't gonna twist your panties too much. although i'm sure he was a bit intrigued by the obscure 3rd Symphony being picked in 88.
  11. ok, ok, I'll reveal myself <-------kettle.
  12. which corps is that? do we know each other? assuming is fun but it's a shot in the dark. i might stand next to chachi in the arc or something and wouldn't that be a surprise - to have your own brother being disagreeable? i'm confused.
  13. the whole point of my negative statment about morning shows has actually nothing to do with morning shows and more to do with the fact that a simple thread announcing media available on academy and the spartans turned into ecj guys defending their title as the most important before anyone had suggested it wasn't most important. when you've won, you've won. why sweat it after that - regardless of what others think? /whatever
  14. both are extremely talented corps. it's great to see blue stars back in division 1 - long time coming. it will be an interesting comparison.
  15. if that last early morning show is the most important for you, great! to say that it's a foregone conclusion that it was every corps' most important show is incorrect. if it truly is universally accepted as the most important show - why do you guys need to defend it as such. champions shouldn't have to justify their success - it is something that speaks for itself.
  16. 'cause early morning shows (even ones you call grand) are a waste. and it also happens to be the show at which they give out that most meaningful of awards, the disney.
  17. drum corps at it's best is a performance activity - not a musical education. come in the door with the chops already in hand, then build a show.
  18. the west is the best get here and we'll do the rest
  19. i don't think Hawthorne has a marching band either. just the corps.
  20. thank God for tour and the places it takes us. think of all those lily white kids that actually get to see the other side of the tracks. and "god walk?" lol. interesting.
