  1. Don't forget about Sunday, Aug 6th in La Crosse, WI http://www.bluestars.org/rhapsody/
  2. Update: Most of the Yamaha equipment has been sold. The Musser equipment is available for pick up in Madison August 12th
  3. The Blue Stars attempted a simmilar scheme in 1976. http://years.bluestars.org/76.php
  4. Come to La Crosse, WI on August 6th. $10 will get you 11 corps and 1 youth band. http://www.bluestars.org/rhapsody/
  5. Porta Bella's on Francis Street (1 block off of state st) is a very good Italian place. Don't forget La Bamba's for Burritos as big as your head! Also, for an awesome steak go to Smoky's on University Ave (west of campus).
  6. Yep, he started in '82 when the corps was re-formed as a cadet unit. He was 10 years old. He aged out in '93.
  7. I heard that the Blue Stars did their first full run through last night (6/8). I'm sure they are looking forward to 8 days of cleaning before the first show!
  8. FYI, Les Estoiles was a Div II corps. How about this one? The Blue Stars 1994 show was "Pictures at an Exhibition". At the end of the show we used a giant picture frame to frame the corps. In '95 Phantom Regiment used picture frames in their show.
  9. Doesn't make too much sense to me if it is indeed true. If Teal is Div 2 then they have at least 70 members. KK has to have at least 70-80, which means they would have to cut many members who have already signed on to march and have been paying dues all winter. If they do it, it would have to be executed next year before recruiting begins.
  10. I think most corps would prefer a check mailed to their office. Many corps also take online donations. Here's an example:http://www.bluestars.org/support/donate.php
  11. I can only speak for the Blue Stars here but in our case, we never took the part-time corps approach. Even as a division 3 corps, the Blue Stars were full time during the summer. The members did not hold jobs and were expected to be at rehearsal every day of the summer. Also, last season the Blue Stars had more show appearances than many Div 1 corps and traveled nearly as many miles as the Div 1 corps. Prior to 2004, the Blue Stars housed members with local families in La Crosse during the summer and rehearsed 9am-9pm whenever not on tour. In 2004 the corps grew to a size where we were no longer able to support this model and thus, the members remained on tour all summer.
  12. The Blue Stars will be hosting a division II/III show August 6th in La Crosse. Check out the lineup! This promises to be a great show and a major showdown only 3 days before prelims in Madison! Stay tuned to the Blue Stars website for ticket information. DCI Calendar Page: http://www.dci.org/events/view_event.cfm?e...12-624be96bbf6e Blue Stars Website: www.bluestars.org
  13. How about another related question: I've seen websites for run/walks (i.e. American Cancer Society, etc...) where a participant of the run/walk has to get so much in donations in order for them to participate in the event. They send out emails to their friends and co-workers and send them to a website where they can donate. These groups claim that the donations are tax deductible but I'm wondering what is different between what they do and what a drum corps does? If the money is required for the participant to do the run/walk then how is that different than a drum corps participant asking their friends and co-workers to give the corps money so they can participate?
  14. Here's a side question: What if a parent pays ("sponsors") his/her child's dues to the corps? Would that be deductible too?
