  1. 40 plus years in Drum Corps Never aged out!!!!!!!
  2. Fran I hope you are OK and Barb get well as quickly possible.
  3. I disagree with you. First off you folks are funny. You allow DCI and others to create something that is not Drum Corps. I remember the days when the HS and Collage bands were trying to be like us. Tell me you DCI folks how much does it cost to run an entire season, and then how much does it cost per member. DCI then changed the brass market when DCI choose to have there corps use Bb horns. Now I know what you are going to say that DCI only "suggested" but I got to ask you will a corps using G bugles be judged the same as a corps using Bb? Now I know the other point of view, "we can get band kids in here without them changing a thing. Well I remember a few Drum Corps that had there own "feeder" corps. Kids that were trained how to play with a goal to be part of the completive corps. Now it seams to me that we are saying "let the schools do it". I can go on here about how I feel about the end of Drum Corps but we are talking about should we have a name change in what we do? I say yes, if you are going to use Bb horns then let us change the name to Drum and Brass corps.
  4. I disagree, I said this before, Drum and Bugle should be based on the G bugle, Drum and Brass would be based of the Bb horn. There is no flaming going on here.
  5. Mike, I have been very quietly watching this conversation about the cadets and could you please explain to me what you mean by a "traditional drum corps" To me the "George Hopkins" Cadets are far from traditional.
  6. Sorry Chris I had to use your post (see below) If I could suggest listen to the horn lines that went from G to Bb. As an example the I remember the last year the Cabs used G bugles. When they went to Bb horns there show just did not have that rich fullness of sound that they had when they used G bugles. I would like to hear from the corps that went Bb and ask if there is a difference of sound. Ahh you never were in front of me hahaha
  7. Good Luck to "you's guy's" this weekend (as well as season)
  8. Can we do this past weekend (TOS) again, and again and ahhhhh again!!!!!
  9. And as I am waiting at the Tampa Airport He's Coming!! BigLou is on the way!!!!!!!
  10. On behalf of the former Heat Wave Drum an Bugle corps we wish you a speedy and complete recovery.
  11. Your right, how would you (or anyone out there) suggest how to get this started.
  12. If we need a place to post we could use my www.dcascum.com
  13. Where is music?? Let us get this started
  14. Well back in '83 we welcomed the Bushwackers. It was all part of our Drum Corps family. I had a kick when they announced the Bushwackers from Thompalias Wyoming (hope that is how to spell that). I think there is something here we are missing. We talk about how many corps are there in the Northeast and that there were 8 to 10 different corps within a 60 mile are. I do NOT believe that is the problem. What corps are out there in the greater New York area that is a starter corps? A corps that teaches "Drum Corps"? I remember St Joes, Our Lady of Fatima, St Mary's as well as a bunch of other Drum Corps that took kids off the street and taught them how to do Drum Corps. How to play a drum or horn. That I believe is the root of the problem. There has been a major decline in DCI corps. Can anyone name me a division 1 corps left in the new York city area? The Cadets are now in Allentown PA. The Bridgemen are now an alumni corps. What is left to pull from. So now we have to depend on High School and Collage bands for membership. We need to focus on this because the that same faith of the Skyliner awaits all of Drum Corps. Question What can we all do collectively to fix this if it is fixable?
  15. So Mike, are you saying we all need to try to promote first junior corps up in the North East. It is funny that back in the 60's and 70's there were small corps in almost every town with in the greater New York metropolitan area and now we have only Div 2 and Div 3 DCI corps.
  16. Liz, your right. So the question we need to answer is "How can we all help the skyliners get membership"? we need to ask
  17. Wow talk about the positive responce. If you really feel this way may I suggest bowling as a new hobbie.
