  2. I was 14 years old in '73, at the show in Marion with my band, standing soaked to the skin, screaming my head off as Madison blew us off the back of the bleachers. It was the first time I'd seen water bounce on drum heads and, in the shadow of the stadium lights, was the most incredible effect I'd ever seen. The next year I was marching. Hail to the Open! (R.I.P.)
  3. Well, I haven't chuckled so much reading a DC thread. I, personally, love the tan line. Reminds me of my youth when I actually had a chance to win the affections of one of those scantily-clad vixens (ummm, young ladies). As Granny knows, we're reliving our youth by seeing all you youngins', tanned and otherwise. We honor your tan lines because we know what you went through to get them. Thanks for the great chuckle, Granny. And yes, we are old, wrinkly, and pudgy now.

  11. This years' 35th Anniversary program includes historic pics and stories. I get two each year and these came after I already sold my tickets here. I'm selling one and keeping the other for my collection. Still in the plastic wrapper. Perfect condition. $10 price is printed on cover. Send me a check for $12.50 and I'll send it UPS/FedEx. Email if interested - garfield@columbus.rr.com. Orders filled via email date/time if there's a conflict. Thanks much and enjoy the show!
  12. Well, how interesting a thread this is. A few thoughts, if you please... First, this is an excellent thread to expose the maturity of the people here. It's clear that I'm among experienced friends. In fact, for several years I've felt very old and, well, disconnected, from the activity. Maybe it's that I have two young kids now, but I've really felt the activity was growing way faster than I was willing to ride along. But, passion spoke and I was willing to let it pull me into the new world. Point: It's refreshing to find a group of old guys who's favorite shows go back longer than 10 or 15 years. Folks who I might relate to. That said, I really haven't categorized my favorites by year. Mine's more of styles, message, and the music. Phantom's 1812 still raises chills. I threw toilet paper from the top deck. SCV Phantom drew my family to NY to see the play - three times. GC/CBG/CSBYEA - so many there's not room. Copeland. 2000 drum book. Bernstein. Cutting edge drill, Mr. Z. Madison - why I need a hearing aid today. But STOP with the Bolero thing! Too bad, but maybe necessary this year. Marched one year there in the '70s, then learned to fly. Suncoast Sound - A Florida Suite. Chills with that hornline. Cavies - The Planets Star - A Patriotic Celebration. Perfectly timed for emotion. Beautiful performance and nice surprise. SCV - The final chord from the stadium tunnel in Kansas City. Took my breath away. BD - My fav only because my wife goes to butter when she hears "When a man loves a woman." For reference, this is the first finals since 1973 that I've missed. Just too far and two kids... Maybe it's me a'changin'. But I don't think so. I could bore more, and maybe will... Finally, a question. Where do I get those cool pics you folks post here. Do you snip them from captures? Is there a database I'm missing? Thanks for the help. Been a lurker a lot of years. If this is the old guy's thread maybe I'll ask to stay.
  13. NO KIDDING! I knew TA has been writing for Cadets for a long time, but I thought for sure that there were two years when he didn't write for them. For some reason I thought this was whoever I thought it was This is one of the most exposing displays of creativity with a drum line I've heard in, maybe, forever. And to play it must have been a real gas. Thanks for your help folks. I get to listen again with Tom in my mind. Dan
  14. ...I'd like to know who wrote the drum book for the 2000 show. The whole show just makes me cry with delight. I want to send the writer/arranger a note of thanks. Anyone know? Thanks Dan You will be assimilated. I've seen every episode.
  15. Hello all, Once again this year I have finals tickets available for sale. I'm sure these tickets will find a good home. These tickets are Friends of DCI tickets right on the 50 about 2/3 the way up from the field. The seat assignments are for THREE-NIGHT packages as follows: Section 19, Row 39, Seat 1 Section 19, Row 40, Seats 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 Each set of three is $250.00 ($50 for quarters, $75 for semis, and $125 for finals). That's face value. Once again, these are being sold as THREE-NIGHT PACKAGES ONLY. Payment by personal check, bank check, or money order preferred, and tickets will be sent after the check clears. My name is printed on each ticket. You can check any past DCI finals program to see me listed as a Friends Gold member. A phone call to DCI will also verify these tickets are real and issued to me. NO SCALPERS! I reserve the right to ask a simple DC trivia question (that nearly anyone who's been to a show would know) to verify the buyer is not a scalper. I have the tickets in my possession and ready to deliver. Please email with questions. As in past years orders will be filled based on receipt of your email. The tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis. REMEMBER! No single ticket sales at this time. All sales are for 3 tickets per seat! Thanks, Dan LaMacchia Worthington, Oh garfield@columbus.rr.com
