  1. Hangovers are just as stupid as the lead sops that play them! FACT: Doug Peterson invented them back in the 30's to get out of the army.
  2. I haven't spoken with her since '95 and it still hurts. We've lost a family member....
  3. Tradition? This would make the third 6th place finish in a row. Hint: 6 + 6 + 6 = ^0^
  4. That's an easy question to answer.... Doug Kenyon!!!! AKA Pooh Bear This guy can wail like no other. He has to be the loudest baritone player EVER. Read that last sentance again and don't even think of replying otherwise. He's currently playing the the Renegades. If you want to hear the best there is, I suggest you get to DCA Finals and check him out. Don't be shy to ask for autographs either! ^0^ I know he marched with the Blue Devils in 1981. Not exactly sure where he marched other than that.
  5. Academy went on first for Div II/III. They were amazing. The sound is so mature. The ballad is so beautifully done. This corps is not messing around. They are 2 for 2 in competition and I don't see them letting up. The brass line is just......WOW!!!!
  6. I have to say that I love BD this year. I think they have one of the most innovative shows. The soloists are hot! They will rank pretty good among some of the best ever. The show design is real tight. Summertime is one of Wayne's best. Take the A Train is going to leave people humming all summer. When the guard opens the closer and the hornline joins in, that's the nail in the coffin for them to win the whole thing. There are elements that are yet to be incorporated into the show. I know some DCA folks will recognize them. The show does have a lot of cleaning to do. The drill will get cleaner. I was fortunate to get a sneak peek into the closer drill. They will be moving right around light speed. The drill in the closer is significantly harder than the opener. The opener drill is kind of easy when comparing to the other big hitters in DCI, but the closer will remind you why BD is on top of all of them. I have only heard great things about SCV. I was not fortunate enough to see them on Family Day. I wish I had. I have been saying from the beginning that they will definately be fighting for that top spot. People always say that the top spot is only fought for by BD, Cavies and Cadets. I think they are seriously mistaken. SCV has a great show! The design is solid. The hornline is solid. The drumline is solid. There chances for a championship year are solid! The west coast is going to make a statement this year! Stay tuned.....
  7. Close, but off by a few years. 95 was his true age out year. He was 22 when he showed up at BD in 96 <**> . We always joked that he really aged out in 69 then went to Nam, came back and continued marching. :P Not so sure about the facts there Dave.... :P The Randy stories I have could be a bestseller.
  8. Interesting trivia about that show. There is a soprano soloist in the show that was 22 that year. He marched with VK through '95. He Tried to march with BD in '96 but they found out his real age and he disappeared before they could get their hands on him.
  9. The only year that VK really killed themselves was '95. Those had to be the worst uniforms ever. The "yellow dickie" was a torn piece of cloth that we just tied around our necks. It was an embarassment to the activity. The hat was a cheap trucker hat that got deformed in the sun. The shoes were the only cool thing we had. The all black Converse were made special for the corps from Converse. Got to love sponsors! Bad VK.....bad! ^0^
  10. The Brigs have one of the finest hornlines in drum corps. If you live in the area, get your butt to camp!!! It's an experience you will never forget.
  11. I'm going to toss baritone soloist from '93 Blue Devils into the list. That guy was just amazing. Now I know your asking yourself "Which soloist are you talking about? There were quite a few." I say take your pick. The Blue Devils have produced some of the best baritone players around.
  12. me thinks they will be in the hunt for the whole enchilada!
  13. What kind of OS are you running? Is there a demo of the software I can mess with? What video do you have and what drivers are you using?
  14. So nice he said it twice! 7
  15. The Monette mouthpiece works great. It sounds great. It's just great. If anyone tries to tell you that the Monette doesn't work on the field or won't fit in the Power Bore send them here. I used the MFII and thought that it was a great lead mouthpiece.
  16. Get them while they're hot! http://www.cafeshops.com/drpennybags
  17. Has anyone ever played on the Schilke G Trumpet? I wonder what kind of sound it can produce. They make pretty decent horns.
  18. I'm not an expert by any stretch, but I would like to see an air-flow model of the horns to see exactly the effect of the horizontal bend of the Kanstuls/Kings as opposed to the vertical cornet-like bend of the DEGs. Maybe the ninety-degree change in direction does have an effect. If I'm not mistaken, the horns have the same number of bends thoughout the leadpipe, I wouldn't think there would be too much of a diffence there, except in where the bends are located. It could explain the back-pressure "problem". ByWrapping it around the bottom, There are actually more bends in the pipe. The bends are what is most problematic for air flow. If you look at how they wind on the horn, you will see that they crook a lot more than others. It is more obvious when you have the 2 horns next to each other. It was painfully obvious when I was marching at VK. Sure I got a great sound out of the Kanstul 3-valve, but once I was on a 2-valve the sound was so pure. I have to admit that I did march the season on a 3-valve.
  19. I am only speaking for the soprano. The 3-valve Kanstuls have a bad pipe configuration. It causes to much back pressure and loss of air speed. If you look at them, they wrap horizontally a the bottom of the horn. The Dynasty 3-valve is the opposite. It is really designed like a trumpet. Very good sound and free flowing open bore. Very nice horn. Now the best overall horn, IMHO, is the 2-valve Kanstul. Very large open bore and straight through pipe configuration. You want to play loud? I mean so loud you hurt someone? Get a 2-valve Kanstul bugle!
