  1. HA! Jeff, I VIVIDLY remember the Out Of This World video game, and it was the first thing I thought of with the announcement. That said, I am SUPER excited about a LOT of shows this year, including Crown, BD, SCV, Madison and others. Now I just hope that I can make it to shows to see them all...
  2. I have not logged onto DCP since probably Labor Day weekend, but I had to today because I wanted to let you know that this is one of the best, most well-formed and informative posts I have seen on this website. Ever. Seriously, I have been a BD fan for years, some years more than other (especially lately) but I never really knew how to explain why I love that "BD Sound". Now I know. Thanks for this post, it's great.
  3. Exactly. Not to mention that they also do a bit of follow the leader around the points of the flower.
  4. Thanks Mike, I thought the same thing. The gif shows dots only moving back and forth on one line. The Flower Drill, while also very cool, is nothing like this.
  5. One other Blue Devils move that I absolutely loved was when they made the parallelogram block, marched it backfield, then whip-turned left to bring it towards the lower-left corner of the field, then pushed forward to rock the jazz hit. I will see if I can make a gif.
  6. I absolutely loved Crown's visual program, but for my dollar the most complete, effectual, and downright fun to watch visual program this year belonged to the Santa Clara Vanguard. My dollar, so obviously my opinion, but their drill made the show.
  7. The original quote was included in my little rant. I am personally tired of anyone bagging on one corps to argue that theirs is better. Not unsubstantiated nor condescending.
  8. Man, this is kinda why I hate coming here. We pretty much all agree that (Crown's) move was amazing. And yet, because we mention that it was also pretty dirty except for Semis, some of you feel that you have to bag on other corps to prove your point. In case you didn't get the memo... CROWN WON DCI. As they should have. Don't bag on other corps to make yours seem better. It's, honestly, beneath Crown. The spinning fronts that BD did look pretty ###### clean to me (except maybe the drumline, but that may be because of the differences in the drums themselves.) Not to mention that they are condensing intervals throughout the moves. Cadets move was awesome too. Don't be that guy. Don't bag on other corps as a means to prop yours up. Crown's show really doesn't need it this year anyway.
  9. I see what you mean now. I thought garfield meant something as it formed. Agreed, one of the best moves ever.
  10. <threadJack> BOOTSTRAP! I have seen you posting in here for a while now, and I JUST put 2 and 2 together to figure out who you are! (I am old, give me some slack) Good to see you man! Will we perhaps see you in Annapolis? </threadJack>
  11. Suncoast's corps song was Greatest Love of All... Specifically the George Benson version (we were singing it lonnnnng before Whitney did)
  12. Oh oh I do! (But I march there) WE ARE THE WORST! (I can get away with that one, right?)
  13. That move was dirty all year long... until they nailed it at Semis. Not quite as clean on Saturday, but an awesome move nonetheless.
  14. As CrownPhan mentioned, the CDs come out in November. Non-finalists generally have their semifinals performance on the disk, while the Finalists have the Saturday gig. Edit: Same goes with the DVDs (but not the Blu-Ray, those are Finals only)
  15. No kidding! Especially considering that Olympic Stadium only has a capacity of 66,000 or so. Must have been a TON of folks in the end zones and on the back sidelines...
  16. I am starting to think that you are a lot of fun at parties.
  17. Good point, that. Rereading my original response, it seemed to have a more negative vibe than I had hoped.
  18. Not only that, but you would be helping the corps directly as well. Not to mention the quality would be better.
  19. A couple of things to consider: 1. They have 20,000 paid at finals, a sizable increase (17,000 in 2012). This despite the availability of a Finals Webcast. Now, to be sure, they announced the webcast pretty late in the game, and I doubt many folks who were already planning on attending live would have canceled their plans to watch on the web, but it remains a factor. 2. Directly from the article, "A significant portion of the additional audience for finals can be attributed directly to a sizable increase in local Indiana residents attending the event." This could somewhat financially troubling, if only because Indy residents were offered VERY deeply discounted tickets. That said, it was nice to see a pretty full house on Saturday night. I wonder if the alternatives (Fan Network, Theater) are big reasons for the drops in QF and Semis, or if 3 straight nights and nearly 30 hours of corps shows is a bit of an overload.
  20. Santa Clara has always been one of the fastest corps to remove unauthorized videos from YouTube. This isn't a surprise at all.
