  1. I stand corrected. My point was those two shows were DCA sanctioned because all three corps were paying DCA members. Prior to 2007, RCR was not a paying member, but the all-age corps were still judged on DCA sheets. Those scores were not official DCA scores though since they were just DCI shows. I am not trying to stir up anything up. I just thought it would be interesting to see the Kingsmen scored against Renagades and Dream. I can understand a brand new corps coming out as exhibtion, but it sounds like they are expecting to come out as a full strength corps. No matter if they are competing or exhibition it will be exciting to see and I am looking forward to Stanford.
  2. The west coast corps were judged on DCA sheets at all shows in 2006/2007 and in 2005 the DCA sheets were used if there were at least two all age corps competing. The judges were DCI judges so none of the scores were actual DCA scores, but at least they were more in line with what was being judged at actual DCA shows. The scores still did not really mean anything, but they were probably closer to being accurate than being judged on DCI Div 2/3 sheets. The exception were the two DCA sanctioned shows last year where all three CA corps were competing and the judging was done by DCA judges. RCR was not a paying member of DCA until 2007 since we did not plan to go to DCA finals before that. None of the scores at west coast shows this year will count as DCA scores since they are not DCA sactioned events. I don't think DCI cares what the corps standing is in DCA as long as they pass the DCI evaluation.
  3. I agree. It would be interesting to see how a traditional Kingsmen show scores against Dream and Renegades. I know west coast all-age scores don't really mean anything, but it would still be cool. You don't have to be a DCA member to compete at DCI shows.
  4. From this it sounds like the narrative is critical, but does not make-up a large portion of the show like last year. It looks like they are reacting to fans criticism of the narrative quality in the past and are turning to professionals in the vocal medium. I would rather have no narrative, but I would want to see it handled by a pro if they are going to include it.
  5. 2008 BDB: 8 BDC: 5 Vanguard Cadets: 12 2007 BDB: 17 BDC: 9 Vanguard Cadets: 17 2006 BDB: 16 BDC: 8 Vanguard Cadets: 19 There is another thread about World Class corps having less shows as well. Either the schedule is not complete in the lineups or DCI is trying to ease the travel cost by having less shows.
  6. Unfortuantely I will not be marching this season. I had made this decision before the 2007 summer season started so it really has nothing to do with RCR or Renegades. If I could do it I would be there, but other responsibilities will make it impossible for a while. I will be back on the field sometime, but it will probably be at least a few years down the road. I am hoping to make it to the CNY parade in February. Oh and Lee...Adam is definately passionate about what he does. He and I have had a number of heated discussion on the RCR boards. We both knew it was just talk, but some people thought we were actually PO'd at each other. Kinda funny. B)
  7. I can say it is not just a planned name change. Where did you hear of this? Just curious. With so many things still happening around the RCR fiasco I doubt anything will happen with a new corps or a restart of RCR any time soon. Beyond the dictatorship still being in charge the corps has a considerable amount of debt to deal with before any talk of fielding again could happen. Also, with the rumblings of something possibly happening with the Freelancers anything that was in the works is in a bit of a holding pattern right now. Please don't read anything more into the Freelancers comment than what I said. Like I said it is just rumblings and I don't know of anything actually happening with the Freelancers beyond the current percussion ensemble.
  8. Any return of RCR to the field under the current management (Tracy Freeman) will not include at least the entire horn line and most if not all of the battery. I cannot speak for the front ensemble and guard, but I know of a few that will never return under Tracy and that is probably true for the majority of those sections. I do not see this as being about scavenging or ruthlessly recruiting for the Renegades. I see this as the Renegades letting us know that we are welcome if we choose to march there. I for one plan to fully support the Renegades even though I will not be marching this season.
  9. You could resurrect the sex cymbals from the VK days. B)
  10. Rich is absolutely correct about Tracy. If RCR does manage to come back under Tracy it will be an entirely new group of people (members and mostly staff).
  11. If some form of Ryan's idea was implemented it would be possible for BDB or SCV Cadets to make finals along with the A corps. Not at the current talent level, but with a new system it would be possible. How would people react to that?
  12. Also, I doubt DCI would be willing to give up the revenue generated by showing quarters in the theater.
  13. It's interesting to see the perspective from corps that do both DCA and DCI shows. I have only performed at DCI shows since we don't have any DCA shows on the West Coast. Over the last four years the response has gotten better every year. This year there was a decent crowd at all the shows and they were all very responsive. I never really gave much thought to who was going on later since we knew the die-hard fans that only watched the Div I corps wouldn't be in the stadium when we were on. The only really bad response I remember was a 2005 show in San Diego. There was a decent sized crowd, but very little if any response. Dream went on on the crowd barely clapped even at the end of the show. We went on and had the same reaction. Renegades weren't there so we couldn't tell if it was us or just the crowd.
  14. Both the DCI and Renegades schedule shows the corps is performing at the Modesto show. The Sacramento (Rocklin) show on August 2nd is being hosted by the Renegades.
  15. My understanding is that these fundraisers are no longer operating. If the operational status of thes fundraisers change I am sure the current management of the corps will make the appropriate announcements. Mods - Please close this thread.
  16. If management does not relinguish their claims on control I don't know of anyone that would go back. If that happens we always have the option of forming a new corps. The only thing of value RCR has at this point is the Dynasty equipment. Equipment is not that hard to come by and I think we would rather play on crappy used equipment under strong managament than on new equipment with unstable management. We also have a solid core of members that would probably follow the new management even to a new corps.
  17. It would be great if you could do another recording once the show is complete.
  18. I am not an official spokesman for the corps so take it for what it's worth. We were told 30 minutes before our gate time last night that the corps would be going inactive due to financial problems. We have outstanding bills from May and June as well as an equipment payment in August (the final payment) , all of which is planned to be paid from our current fundraisers. That should be vague enough to keep me out of trouble. After that there will probably be some organizational changes and I am hoping we will see something before DCA about the corps plans for the future. We will be back. B)
  19. Same here. Rolled my right ankle during Free. Not good when you are wearing a knee brace on the left knee, but got through it without injury. Funny thing is the field was better this year then in the past.
  20. I think some of us have a preconception of what we would expect to hear from a show featuring Star Trek music. I just don't recognize some of the music and I am guessing that is because the source material is mainly from the movies. By the way, Dream was actually closer to Renegades last season at Sunnyvale. I think the big difference is that this year they are both much stronger and they will be meeting again in two weeks. Good luck guys. B)
  21. Looking for a fun and exciting way to support Drum Corps??? Play Bingo with River City Regiment on Saturday afternoons at the Palace Charity Bingo Hall in Sacramento, located at 2929 Fulton Ave (corner of Fulton and Marconi Ave behind the Taco Bell). Enjoy a free cup of coffee and maybe even win some $$$$. The Bingo sales office opens at 10:30am and the games begin at 12:00 noon. We are also hosting a fireworks stand at the same location as the bingo hall. The stand is open 9am-10pm every day through July 4th. See you there!!
  22. Wow! Usually Sunnyvale is one of the hottest shows. Nice to see since we go on at 5:30.
  23. Lumpia was on the menu last year - yummy! Hope I don't jinx it, but the weather is supposed to be a high of 85 on Friday. B)
  24. I don't know if closing the gap is the right way to put it since we went up less than 1 point and Gades dropped six points. I guess my question is which score better represents where you guys are right now? We feel our score is pretty accurate for where we are. From the ramp at Stockton it looked like you guys had some problems that weren't there on Saturday (phasing). Also, did a sop go down at one point? If so, is he okay? It would be nice to have the recaps online somewhere. I checked Sound Machine and they just link to the DCI page.
