  1. If I'm not mistaken........DCI requires a minimum of (x) number of thousands seating on the performing side. Can't remember if it's 2,000 or 5,000. Unless that has changed. Lake Erie Fanfare ran into a similar problem a few years back when Veterans Stadium was undergoing and artificial turf installation which would not be completed in time and required a change of venue.
  2. Apparently that particular article was not Archived. Even checked out Wilkes Barre paper. Sorry. No luck.........but I know what I read at the time.
  3. ....Speaking of....ERIE.....(shamless segue....) 4. Don't have a copy of that particular article (lost the paper on the way home last year) A search in the archives of the Scranton Times (I think that's the right name) might work. I'll check it out. Might even be in last years program.
  5. Just finished reading P-N story. What a bunch of CRAP. I wonder if HERCO ever did their homework on the possibilities of DCA 2006? Was it ever mentioned that DCA weekend generated approximatly 8-10 million dollars in business for Scranton? Guess that's just PEANUTS to them. Chump change...... <**>
  6. BOUYCOT TIME <**> If there's Chocolate in it, on it, or anywhere near it..........you can bet your sweet ###, or un-sweetned ###......that Hershey is making a Buck..............Time to switch to BEER ^0^ ........HUH?....Oh yea..........already done that...............NEVERMIND B)
  7. ....OUCH!!...........Someone didn't get their HUG today........ b**bs (Time for a good teaspoonful of "G" DA.....)
  8. Just curious as to how often you horn players clean your bugle. I'm talkin' about the inside.........(once you do the inside ....it doesn't make sense not to do the outside) DCI members would be the exception because their schedule is just to intense..........but......for those involved in Alumni and/or Senior corps'........how cruddy does your horn get? I find it necessary, and maybe I'm to fussy, to clean mine (and polish it) about once a month. Your thoughts.......( We have about 4 rehearsals and maybe 3 0r 4 shows a month.
  9. ......Been using Weimans Royal Silver Cream for about two years now. Found it by accident in a grocery store for about $1.50 (guess they couldn,t get rid of it). Worked the same for me on my new Kanstul the very first time. Good stuff.
  10. Here's an oldie but a goodie.........One of the TBIRDS many BUS songs....... 11. Just received an eMail from Kanstul regarding my slide situation. Will keep you all informed.
  12. ....................Just kind of scanned this thread......... What weight are you speaking of as far as rifles go? Not to be a smart ### but back in the 1960's our guard were throwing "triples" with their rifles. Not really sure of the length.....but....they were Army Regulation 9 lb. rifles........... NOW THAT'S IMPRESSIVE>>>>>>>
  13. .........another good idea....Thanks. Mic'd the tubing and one side of the slide is a couple thousandths smaller than the other. Your plan has merit.
  14. ......been looking for an excuse to go there anyway.....
  15. .......Great idea........Don't know why that never crossed my mind.......... Now to find the o-rings.............tried to find replacements for my O-rings on the Getzen Melli locally with no luck...........Maybe Auto zone!!!!!! Anyway,.......thanks for a great tip.........makes to much sense not to work........
  16. The tuning slide on my new Melli creeps inward while playing. Anyone run into this situation? Zig Kanstul eMailed me and offered to take care of it but I obviously can't part with a part until late September. Any Ideas short of axle grease b**bs ....?
  17. Yep......that's Chuck's last name (a.k.a old school vk). Last time I talked to Ziggy was in Scranton in 1993. Didn't know who he was except for a guy in a sport coat that you could use to play checkers on and he bought me a beer. That's my story and I'm sticken' to it...............
  18. ......Just gave my Kanstul Melli its first bath. Polished it with Weimans Royal Silver Cream, got a gig in Pittsburgh tomorrow ya'no, and the finish already looks better. I guess I needed to be more patient...........NOW if the horn just remembers what it's supposed to do tomorrow night............... b**bs
  19. I guess I'm just to fussy, now that I think about it. BUT I do have a King Silver Flair 1977 that looks as good as showroom. (Yep..... to fussy)
  20. Having started this thread I guess I should clarify some things. I purchased the Melli through Charles, as you refer to him. I think you may mean Chuck ( formerly of VK ). I have no situation with Chuck, whom I delt with personally, or Kanstul Instruments. I never contacted them and/or filed any type of complaint. I am simply asking a question as to how to eliminate what I would call "Angle Hair" swirls (for lack of a better explanation) that appear on the surface of the horn from the factory. These were not present on the Getzen Titleist I bought over 10 years ago and did not exist when the horn was sold. If you go back and read my original question...........Is there a way to eliminate what I refered to as buffing or polishing marks. It's no big WHOOP. I like my melli and will keep it till my DIRT NAP....(It'll probably still be new b**bs ). Thanks for your replies. This was not intended to be a DIG. Merely an inquirey.
  21. .........Just a thought.........Printed on most silver polish containers ....."Not recomended for use on lacquer finishes". Could this be a clue? See yinz' Saturday B)
  22. Purchased a new Kanstul Melli last November. It appears to have either buffing and/or polishing scratches over the entire horn that I can't remove using recommended proceedures for cleaning and polishing.. The 10 year old Getzen that I just parted with was one you could comb your hair in if need be. Am I a perfectionist?...........probably........Has anyone else had this experience and if so, what was your remedy? I really like the horn but I'm one of THOSE people who also likes a MIRROR FINISH when I'm performing my best 13 minutes (or so). Is this a characteristic of the mfg? Your thoughts please.
  23. ......I have a King Silver Flair if interested. One owner, me. No dents, no scratches......showroom.
  24. Burgandy/Red mix...? Here in the States we call it Sangria......... Ever have a SPODIE-ODIE ? You guys are a HOOT. Keep it up...... b**bs b**bs
  25. KEEP WELL MY FRIEND.........and DON"T FORGET YOUR "G" b**bs
