  3. :) Vaseline Petroleum Jelly for slides........been using it for almost 50 years. It's cheap........and it work's. Buy one jar for slides.......and another for the other......... b**bs
  4. Frank Ponzo had a post on RAMD a while back on what he uses. I tried it with excellent results. After cleaning the horn apply a small amount of 3in1 oil to the bottom quarter of the valves, re-insert and work the oil in. Remove the valves and add Al Cass in the usual manner. I've been using a Getzen Melli for the last 10 years and have never had valve response like I do now. Frank says he's been doing this for the last twenty years. You might try it.
  5. I also have a trumpet for sale. Rare King Silver Flair, (5) mutes , plus the plumbers helper and a Hamilton trumpet stand. All immaculate........well there is a couple small "dings" in the harmon mute........(that was done on purpose to increase the timbre)........yea right!!!! B)
  6. Did I miss something?..........This is DCP Marketplace isn't it?
  7. I LOVE that mouthpiece! I've been playing my own Getzen Titleist melli for ten years with th 6V. To me for the correct timbre and overall tone COLOR, if you will, this is the only mouthpiece for this horn. ( but if necessary....I can take out an entire soprano line......). Anybody playing melli knows, or should know, you must be careful playing this horn. Here's a bad analogy........Sop's are the potatoes.......Lower brass the Gravey.......But......MELLI'S are the MEAT!!! I agree 1000 % I was finally getting my RA buddies on mello to notice how nice and rich my tone was with the 6V. It was like pulling teeth to get them off those trumpet mouthpieces but I successfully converted a few! The mellophone of today is much different than the old mellophones. That was a totally different beast. The one we play today calls for a mellophone mouthpiece (or as Pete Bond suggested, a converted cornet mouthpiece). I love my 6V. I do, I do! There are still horn players out there (former sops..mostly) who refuse to give up the 7C or the 14A4A because of the REACH. SHAME>>>SHAME>>>>SHAME. We have some too! It's all about tone quality. But I don't have to tell.....YOU....that do I? GO 6V's (and geritol) B)

  9. Never.....and I mean .....never....soak your mouthpiece in a wine glass full of apple cider vinegar. Especially if you are married to someone who appreciates wine with a unique color. ............Due the Visual!!!!!! <**> B) (Ray-Bans)
  10. Yeah thats what I use ...but its about $9.00 a bottle!!! :) Found mine by accident in a grocery store. Last bottle marked down to $1.50. Maybe if you switched to melli you wouldn't need so much. BWAAAAAAHAHA b**bs

  12. Great topic.....I think many of us have the same problem........ I spend a lot of time in my garage doing almost nothing but I do, however, have the folder with the charts open at all times. I tend to visualize the charts in my head and when a phrase, segue, passage or whatever you want to call it comes up blank I simply look at the chart at the part that is unclear. I guess that is memorizing by rote. I think!! Don't know but it works for me. :( If all else fails...........FAKE IT!!!!!!!!)
  13. I used Tarni-Shield for years with good results. However, while looking to purchase another bottle I happened upon a product called WEIMANS Royal Sterling Silver Cream made by Herbert Stanley Co. Bath your horn in the usual way and try this stuff, if you can find it. I just wipe my horn down with a soft cloth after rehearsal and it's back to showroom condition and the horn is 10 years old. :)
  14. I have been using a Getzen "Titleist" mellophone since 1995. Anyone else familiar with this horn? Love the sound and tone quality. I do, however, wish it had the balance of a Kanstul.
  15. You are probably right! I hesitated. Having said that, it might behove (moooo!!) us to say what we think anyway. I personally would hate to think, that, we are not adult enough to take criticisim. We are all involved in the same activity and everyone's input can only serve to improve who and what we are. (I have no ###ing idea what I just said, but, I just kept typing and it sounds good to me!!)
  16. T-Birds Mini-Corps+Furguson=AWSOME (Ya!! I'm allowed to blow my own horn!!) Pun intended.
  17. I would like to see a review too!! I'm sure all the mini-corps' would like a critque. Good or bad. Melligene T-Bird Alumni 6 Time Mini-corps Champs (no one will be offended we welcome input). Member (in good standing) Renegade Fan Club-East Coast Chapter. ^0^
