  1. OK! Had to pipe up here! The 50/50 was $164 and there were about 125 paid admissions because of the nasty weather we received all day starting with the first session in the morning about 1 hour into rehearsal at East Middle school! After that it allowed round 2 of rehearsal to commence and then the skys really let loose with COLD rain and Lots of Wind to make it feel colder. The Crusaders rehearsed in the rain but once the lighting returned we were off the field and back under cover. About 4 pm the sky brightened and blue sky broke out with the groundskeeper from the district assuring us the field would drain and be ok to use which I had a hard time believing.... ....however..... .....they must have built this field with sand and fabulous drainage because by show time it was usable and even allowed the Corps to compete without any mishaps or slippage. AMazing!!! Mike and the contest Crew spent alot of time in Auburn promoting the show and even got free radio spots along with a interview the week of the show. One person told me they heard it on Syracuse radio (didn't say what station) Saturday morning. So basically saying......we did everything in our power to make this a success for all involved and even got the weather to cooperate because the lighting returned at the end of the show (St. Joes Alumni brought that on with the screeching rendition of "Georgia")!! As I got in the equipment truck after loading out, it started sprinkling and the rain returned as I drove back to Rochester! As far as a review, I wasn't in the stadium for all the corps so I really can't be of much help, however, everyone looked good and sounded good as we are competitors on the field and friends off the field!! The auburn press was there taking pictures for the local paper and Drum Corps World had a writer/reviewer there from Canada ( I apologize for not getting his name) so you might find a review in the DCW edition for this time period! Have fun and see ya at the next show!

  8. I can only say how sorry the Crusaders Organization is in the passing of such a great friend, brother, son, teacher, administrator and adjudicator! Bruce in his hawaiian shirt and straw hat will be sorely missed this summer along with that famous grin or smirk that went with it! Back many moons ago, when Bruce and Brady were beginning their respective careers, either separately or together, Bruce always was the consummate professional and inspirational towards the junior and senior corps they taught! May God bless and keep his family in his arms during this terrible time and have solace that we will be together someday in a better world! God Bless!
  9. Dear Lois & Kris, I am so sorry for your loss but I know Ford is in a better place making plans for one heck of a bari line in God's Corps! If there is anything you need,Kris.....well....you know.......just let me know! I am sorry I couldn't make it down for the services but I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.............May God keep you and you family in the time of need!
  10. Allie, GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!! Other than minor tweaking and editing, you have done an EXCELLENT Job of a very importasnt and relevant topic! Kudos to you! I especially take pride in knowing your exposure to this crazy activity we call Drum Corps has and will take place with the Rochester Crusaders and appreciate all of your hard work at college as well as in the corps as one heck of a bairtone player!! The Tradition continues with you, my Friend!!!!!!!!!
  11. It is with Great Sadness to announce Ralph Chapman, Long time Yankee Rebel member and Honor Guard member of the Rochester Crusaders in the 1980's passed away recently. I received this information and promised his friend, Sgt. Patrick Taylor to let the drum corps community know about his memorial service. Ralph Chapman's memorial service is April 25th 2009 from 1-5 pm at the Charles Evering VFW Post at 8777 Philadelphia Rd., Rosedale, Md. 21237. If you would like to send his wife your condolences, her address is: Mrs. Mary Chapman 7506 Berkshire Road Baltimore, Md. 21224 Thank You very much in advance for all your prayers and Drum Corps Support! May Ralph R.I.P!!
  12. thanks for making me crack a grin with that one, TA! Love it!
  13. What would you have if it wasn't there? More Blight and degradation?? The action that is happening including the progress of the luxury suites within final completion stages should more than makeup for your exposure to urban decay, Mike! Who needs decent housing when the moat only gets wider? Rest assured, no worries needed .......... the powers that be will only pay for more overtime for Rochester's finest to protect your safety concerns! Oh.....btw......I do live a stone's throw from the stadium and have worked diligently for more cops and better housing for our neighborhood since moving here! Things are getting better, but like anything else ........it takes time.......but build and they will come!
  14. Unfortunately. Cru is at rehearsal at 9 am this morning and I am out the door to distribute more of our lottery calendars which will be on another post shortly but when I return I will have some thoughts and review for you, Gary! Too bad you and the Erie Crew couldn't have made a road trip to see a nice preview show to the upcoming season....... !

  16. Allie, WWWwaaaaaay back in the first year of drum corps for me was the Emerald Gems. a peanut feeder corps in 1966 to the Emerald Cadets Junior corps...... I joined them after watching my 3 year older sister become a member of the Blue Angels from Greece NY and was selected as a drum major where she continued her drum corps majoring as drum major for the Rochester Reveliers drum corps in 1968. She is now the High school principal at Livonia High school after teaching for many years and has been doing the principal job for about 10! She would be happy to talk to you! Great topic and would love to see your final thesis or paper produced! Just let me know when I see you this weekend and I will give you her contact info! See ya Saturday!

  18. Yuppers,Fran! I watched the poor folks from DCP trying to keep their respective laptops dry as the wind was pushing the rain into the box sideways as I awaited the sheets ( Pretty much soaked with water and running ink) to check on behalf of Cru! I live 2 minutes from the stadium and it is RARE for that type of weather in RaChaCha! LOL! Kinda sucked but we made the best of it and it charged many performing corps to the best show of the year! Side Note: It was fun watching you trying to keep your Hawaiian shirt intact as the wind tried to rip it off you! HA!
  19. Bruce, I have always found you to be the consummate gentleman and all around good guy striving for excellence in everywhere you have taught or judged! Persevere through this challenge and hope to see you soon on the fifty!
