  1. Bass Tech: BASSES!!! Why does that get 30% shi**ier when you ADD body movement? You can't multi-task? Director: What, no percussion in this segment? D-line: Yeah there is! Perc. Caption: C'mon play, it's just some paradiddle-diddles! Tech 1: Idiots! Tech 2: Yes sir! Pit Tec: Do you remember when you where young and had dreams of having a big sack? Okay then. Director: I meant for us to go to Letter K. K, K, K. Ohhhhh, wait, well not that one. Most random... Tech: After you eat that tuna fish sandwich, you're gonna smell like a lesbian!
  2. I always love this discussion between the two well known grips. I personally believe that one should choose one and only one and perfect upon that grip. This does not mean that one is necessarily better than the other but it's just like development of a wind players embouchure or the grace of a string player. Why spend time learning a whole new grip when in actuality it will take a while to develop. I personally prefer the Stevens grip over Burton but that means nothing really. On the other hand the only thing I don't care for is the sometimes clicking of the mallet shafts in the crossed Burton grip. That doesn't always happen but it can. My ear tends to focus on that and that only when it happens...not enjoyable. I also favor the enormous range one can achieve with the Stevens because of the transfer of the inside mallet and the thumb roll out.
  3. Bump...c'mon I know people have been reading this! Matt
  4. Hi All Prospectives, My name is Matthew Bauer. I will be heading up the Bushwackers front ensemble this season. I am spreading the word here in the percussion forum about just coming out and trying Bush this year. I personally guarantee that the education will be thorough and enlightening. (This doesn't mean a lack of fun either)! Please check out www.bushwackers.org for more details or email me for some more discussion. I can send you curious one's music as well. Don't miss out...so jump on the 'circus' bandwagon for 2009! Matthew
  5. I just finished watching the parade. Glad to see two great drum and bugle corps of this nation marching down historic Penn. Ave. I was excited to see both corps and especially The Cadets because of a friend I know marching. I was surprised that the Colts didn't beef up their musical selection. It looked great on TV but sounded just okay...maybe it was the News Coverage. I was watching Fox News 5 for NYC because it was the only one at the time still covering the parade. I thought The Cadets played very well (as they always do). Percussion sounded very tasty and the news seemed to cover the corps quite well unlike some other groups in the parade. Congrats to all participants and to President Obama! This is indeed a historic day.
  6. You may not know the corps' history...but look back a number of years especially in the 70s
  7. I saw them tonight in Utica, NY. They did a standstill performance of their show. They look and sound great. The new horns are nice and the mapex percussion is interesting. They are getting ready for Drums along the Mohawk on Wednesday and treated the local crowd to some drum corps!
  8. I hope the very best for you BRIGS! Have a great season...and who knows...maybe I can make it to a show or two!
  9. Oh, wow! I really remember that night now. The beef was excellent as usual. Ron is a great chef. The rain was bad that night. We got so soaked when we played but it was incredibly fun for us and the audience despite the down pour!
  10. Unfortunately I was no where near the show. I live about 5 hours away in central NY. I don't mind the early hours and I am sure some one driving at least one vehicle will see it! Everyone else will probably be sleeping because it's a longer haul tonight from Erie to Ft. Edward. Hopefully near Westmoreland on I-90.
  11. Hi, I was just curious if anyone knew when the corps would depart from Erie, PA tonight. I am planning on making a sign so when a few corps pass through NY, hopefully they can catch a welcoming glimpse. I was planning on timing from when the leave to when they pass through my area. Thanks!
  12. Hahaha. I remember that now! I almost forgot about that killer drop that's not quite level. It was challenging to move equipment but not as bad as some other places.
  13. In order of favorite: 1) Rome, NY RFA Stadium. I have to be biased because it's where I was born and where I performed for my hometown crowd. Also it was ranked at one time one of the best show site/supporters. 2) Allentown, PA. I love how large AND how high the stadium goes. I enjoyed performing and watching corps there. The only drawback for me was that the field is a little too distant from the crowd. 3) Foxboro, MA Gillette Stadium. LARGE stadium and I was also my first experience with live DCI finals!
  14. It's cool. No harsh feelings/attitudes/beliefs towards anyone. :)
  15. Yes. I got it. I would rather take a chance though with the electronics...obviously I am pro amps!
  16. I would have to honestly say that it was the stadium. The equipment was brand new and we made sure it worked every time! But it was a waste when we couldn't use them (like rough weather conditions)...the whole front was lost and that affected the overall percussion score and music.
  17. Hey now. I can understand people's position on the amps but you really have to be a member of a pit to understand why they were used. However, I was not at the show so I could not agree or disagree whether they should have used them. I haven't heard the pit scoring either. In all good intentions, there were only a handful (5 or less) times that the power did not work when I performed and that was usually a fault on the stadium power.
  18. Place Corps Score World Class 1 The Cadets 71.200 2 Bluecoats 68.800 3 Boston Crusaders 67.100 4 Glassmen 63.000 5 Crossmen 62.400 6 Troopers 57.900 7 Pioneer 52.300 Unfortunately I was not able to make the show but I would love to hear from those that were there. Were these numbers rightfully so? Congratulations to all the corps on opening night!
  19. WOW, congratulations on your new project. I am a HUGE film/music fan. I study it almost more than the classical/romantic/21st century rep! A good friend of mine is going to the big film scoring school in souther Cali. I would love to play for ANY film one day. I just started listening to your work so I cannot tell you how I feel. I am impressed so far by what I hear. Matthew
  20. Check out some of the DCA corps about Hazo repertoire. Brigadiers 2008 Program "Reflexions: The Music of Samuel R. Hazo"
  21. I kinda like the new look...however, the pants seem to be just a little too long!
