  1. Beat me to it Steve... Quarter of seven is too early for me.
  2. Certainly looked like one of your unis. If it was homemade someone should certainly find him, good sewers are always useful.
  3. My biggest problem with saturday's show was the guy walking around in a Crossmen Aussie, Uniform Top, Shorts and Sneakers. Very disrespectful to a proud organization.
  4. My sister and I marched together at Bush for 4 years, she's off at school now, though, too long a drive. I'm sure she'll be back eventually
  5. It seems to me that a junior division is unnecessary, why wouldn't they just compete as a DCA corps? Most of the better Div 2 corps would easily be competitive with the finalist DCA corps. The only thing that may stop them from being competitive I would say would be a membership hit that may come with losing the "allure" of being a DCI corps
  6. Another typo. Bush has 5 bass and 4 cymbals, not 4 and 2. Glad you enjoyed us though. Thanks for the review
  7. That seems like passing the buck a bit, to me. Do you really know how the instructional staffs for Cabs and Bucs work? I don't, but I do know that it isn't only the smaller non NE corps that have volunteers on their staff and concerns about finances. Attributing a corps success or lack thereof to its finances cheapens the activity. Championships are won with a combination of factors, and if you attribute it all to the staff, then why is anyone even marching? -Sean McReady Bushwackers Percussion Staff Volunteer
  8. I don't really believe that the proximity of one corps to another is a major factor, at least in this area, where there is a good number of corps to choose from. I have been with the Bushwackers since 1996, and I have been driving 2+ hours to get to rehearsals the entire time. Often times at a parade, someone will ask where we are from, and it is a difficult question to answer. I think the corps most closely identifies ourselves as being from Harrison, even as we watch our rehearsal field turn into a soccer stadium on webcam. The corps hall is in Franklin, we have winter rehearsals in either Newark, Garfield, or Sparta, the business is done in Connecticut, and we practice in either Ridgefield Park, Harrison or Franklin. So you add them all up and get Thermopolis Wyoming. I think there is plenty of room for different corps all in the same town. Take the Cabs, Sky and Bush, for instance. All are very close to eachother, but all play vastly different styles of music, have different images, etc... That's one of the great things about this activity. Every corps has an image and a personality, and I think people will go to the corps that "speaks" to them, regardless of distance. I know plenty of people who live in the Northeast who travel to the midwest or westcoast to march drumcorps, even though they had the Cadets and Crossmen right here. And when I was with Crossmen, we had plenty of west coast and midwestern members. Even at Bush, we have always had a large PA, DE and MD contingent, even though Reading is right in our area and hugely successful lately. We have members who have relocated from Chicago to march with us, those who came from England, Canada, New England, California, Ohio, etc... We even had someone who would fly in every weekend from Germany. I have to admit it is a bit disturbing to see signatures that have years and years of Skyliners followed by Fusion Core '07, but really this is a competitive activity, and also a voluntary one. If Fusion Core had a highly successful recruiting campaign that adversely affected Sky, it's a shame, but a drum corps can't expect it's members to stay forever, you need to make them want to stay with your corps. Members of drum corps often are recruited, not usually trying to recruit them away, moreso just saying "Hey, what are you doing this summer?" If the reply is "I'm marching with so and so," the answer should be "OK, cool, see you at a show." If the answer is "I haven't decided," or "Not sure" etc... then hey recruit away. It's a shame to see Sky go, but I am interested to see what kind of product fusion will put on the field. Oh, and Hey Ben, what's up? -Sean McReady, Bushwacker
  9. Does anyone know where the various corps are rehearsing for these shows? In particular I'd like to catch vanguard on wednesday and either Cavies or Madison thursday.
  10. Corpse Bride is coming out soon. I voted classical, but if a Best of and or Broadway show could include The Perfect Year, then I vote for that. Sean McSean
  11. Actually, the 1812 overture has nothing to do with fireworks, or american history, or the war of 1812. It is about Imperial Russia defending their country from Napoleons invasion. After all, why would a Russian write a song about an American war, when they had a perfectly good war going on themselves. 1812 Overture
  12. We did have a bush bassline vis during the ballad in 2001 that we only did during practice and in victory gigs
  13. Even worse than the bad field in my opinion was that we were given a rehearsal field at Bush, and then told we weren't allowed to line it. How much sense does that make?
  14. Surprised to see an LVK reference, then I saw who this was. Thanks for the review Chris, glad you enjoyed it Sean McSean Bush 96-97, 99-2003, 2005 Crossmen 98 LVK Vis Staff 2004
  15. Here's my opinion, but I am biased 2003 DCA - Bush (I was actually hoping for a bit more from reading, but Oh well) DCI - SCV (Give me chills in their "on" years, and this was definately one) 2002 DCA - Reading (I didn't see Yokahama, though) DCI - Dont really recall anyone, so I'll say SCV 2001 Colts 2000 SCV 1999 Glassmen 1998 Crossmen (Again, I'm biased, and we werent very flashy, but I'll take our sound over anyone) Before that was pretty much all SCV, after the Cadets got rid of their line And as far as Seniors, I liked Shore in the mid 90s, Bush in the early 90s
