  1. THAT"S THE BEST THING I HAVE HEARD ON DCP in a long time!!!!
  2. Best Wishes to the Erie Thunderbirds for a super 50th!!!! Man I just had a flashback of Erie at the Gowanda, NY show...the Psych Hospital and that guy who walked around pretending to take pictures. LOL Have a GREAT SEASON!!!!
  3. Need to see what the DCA guys are doing......Joey Pero stands out when it comes to this.
  4. Good idea but I would doubt if any of the judges today would have a clue what the tic system is and how to do it. Remember, you have to remember the symbols for each instrument, plus they'd have to be on the field and move around. If you look at scores back then...sometimes you'd lose to a certain corps by 5 tenths and the next show beat them by 4 points. Those were fun days.
  5. 1976 VFW Prelims Garfield Cadets (remember them?) 86.10 Cavaliers 83.95 Bridgemen 81.20 Muchachos 79.85 Blue Stars 76.50 Guardsmen 74.55 Saints 70.85 Boston Crusaders 70.80 Pembroke Imperials 68.40 Argonauts 67.05 LI Kingsmen 66.55 North Star 66.15 St. Ignatius 66.00 17th place...Marion Cadets 64.40 At finals Cavaliers won by 2 tenths and Saints took 8th, Boston crept up on them. What a difference a week makes. Marion Cadets score a 65.15 the week before and go down to the 64.40. Saints scored a 68 and go up to a 70.85.
  6. Blue Rock (won US Open 1968,1971) Catholic Daughters of America (Class A US Open) Midlanders (US Open "A" Class winners in 1970) General Butler Vagabonds (US Open "A" Class in 1971 and 1972), were 28th in Open class in 1973 Squires (US Open "A" Class winners in 1973) And the list goes 'On and On"
  7. Madison scored a 79.00 and Kilties scored a 78.60 and Bluestars were .2 behind Kilts
  8. I too can add that Donny's arrangements are great. He has written for NY state champs (Eastridge HS) and many others and they sound awesome!!! I can also say that the show he wrote for Heat Wave was well within their playing level.
  9. I remember it rained, especially during finals...was that 72 or 72 and 73? Hmmmm. Don't play your concert number because you'll be over time...there was a time limit for prelims. Big Boy restaraunt Breakfast at Marion Cadet Hall. swimming in the HOT YMCA pool. Sleeping in the 2nd floor of the fire hall. Anyone else?
  10. ....if you have all the old drum corps buttons that were sold in the 60's and 70's. ....if you know what OTL, Color Pre, Concert, and the Exit were. ....if you remember Blue Rock. ....if you know how to execute squad movements. ....if you remember that drum majors didn't stand on podiums. ....if you remember that the color guard wore the same uniform as the rest of the corps. ....if you remember going to Marion, OH, Butler, PA, Lynn, MA, the Danny Thomas Invitational. ....if you remember COL Sanders with the Guardsmen doing a KFC commercial. ....27th Lancers on the Mike Douglas Show (from Philadelphia). On and On............
  11. If I am not mistaken, Neil was in Rush the early part of the 1970's.....Phantom never made it Big until 1974 and also I believe their drum line wasn't anything to write home about in the early years. I do remember the horn line kicking butt.
  12. On and on we go! The tradition of drum and bugle corps........okay stop right there! Who began this conspiracy to change drum and bugle corps to a freaking BAND!!! I WANNA KNOW!!!! Here we sit in 2006 and, for us "older" DC people, we are continually defending the traditions of drum and bugle corps. "G or Bb?" soprano or trumpet? Color guard or Auxillary? If the people in power in DCI are going to make the change to "BAND" (cringe) then do it and get it over with so the rest of us can enjoy drum and bugle corps with DCA. After watching marching bands and teaching them for a "few" years, I don't see how they are better than drum and bugle corps OR what makes what they do so special that corps have to be like them. In the 70's and 80's when I describe our activity I would say it's like marching band but way better. MOVE ON!
  13. In 1982 the Renegades (A Rochester-Lockport based junior corps) played the same arrangement although I believe it was changed slightly. I do remember that there were over 60 brass players up until June until a fight began with some horn players and a co-director. Firebird/Light My Fire actually was played cleaner. I had a recording of the show thanks to Ken Kobold but have since lost it. Phoenix did sound awesome on that recording though. Was that DA and Boots up in the stratosphere?
  14. Sorry I took so long to respond.......Colleen Grapes was her name, in the rifle line.
  15. I want to wish each and every one of you the greatest New Year!!! Someday I would like to meet you all in person...what a party!!!
  16. I've been away from the computer for a few weeks but wanted to say Happy New Year to ALL of YOU!!! Special greetings to all my friends up north with the Crusaders and Statesmen and Brigs as well as those other special friends with Cabs. Big hug and thank you to JJ from Heat Wave for his kindness the week before Christmas...Susan and I had a fantastic day at Disney even through the raindrops, but eventually it became very warm. I wish all DCA corps a successful season and miss the activity very, very much!!!!!!
  17. Truth be told....I never played one in my life. Monette B3 still
  18. Holy cow!!! Is this Nick Filia talking???? What did you do to yourself? Tommy Davenport slap you around? Very nice or did you learn that all from me?
  19. I didn't think "older" people were being "eased" out? DCA really is all age nowadays from HS to 70 year olds. No problem! DCA is one big happy family.
  20. trumpet, trumpet, trumpet, trumpet, trumpet, trumpet!!!! There, now scream as loud as possible!!!! TRUMPET!!!!!
  21. 27th Lancers- Danny Boy Boston Crusaders - Conquest
  22. Everybody must be settled down for a long winters nap. Nothing going on in DCP Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
