  1. then i thank you for further calrification and Bawker for finding it
  2. the Bucs don't perform at band shows Jim, but they usually have a top notch recruiting table compelete with tv/dvd player to show the product. I know also I have seen the Cabs and Bush at some band shows as well.
  3. brass and percussion...86 BD. I know what the recap says for cadets in 87, but my cd tells a different story. guard...87 Spirit
  4. correct that they would be fools not to...but then that flies in the face of the consistent sell line used for all of the recent changes..."they are optional" by saying that, he basically admitted that to not do it screws you, so is it an "option" or, has it become perceived as "mandatory"?
  5. it's a lot more than "the same 10 peope". go back and read the week after finals...tons of names, even some pretty hard core DCi supporters. and honestly, if DCI is going for a more open and honest approach, i think allowing the judges to confer takes away from that
  6. and the post was dug back up by Audiobob, and no, it was right on.
  7. it is judged equally. nowhere on the sheets does it say "new must win over old". sorry, but there is NO judging conspiracy against old time shows.
  8. it's not all th Renegades fault at all. If you read Alan's post, it was decided by both corps. and given the state of things, it's a smart move. Because to go and do it and risk a ton, there's a chance two more corps may be in trouble next year.
  9. it wasn't planned that way. it was said it may be incentive for people who's corps may not be coming out this year to go elsewhere
  10. I'd say open em all anyways. feel better but dont ignore pains!
  11. honestly...if it was truly random and big names were spread out...maybe it would. but my hunch is people would stay outside to see stuff in the lot for some big names, knowing they have Friday and Saturday
  12. honestly...my hunch for the plan in place is because of the cinecast. have 8 corps on, take the break, open the roof, and then do the live feed. Why? because not only does everyone there get to hear it, but so do the many fans in the theater
  13. maybe. but then again, the field judge was right out there ( i looked on the dvd) and the supervisor wasn't
  14. I think complaints have led to people not coming around anymore, regardless of the reason. I'll be honest, after reading reviews of LOS, I hedged. I'll give it a shot. if it sucks, then DCI won't see me at finals until it moves. I know many others have said the same here and off of DCP. I also know that show design has turned off many people I know...it killed a group of us that were Friends, and had been for years. I tried to hang on, but I couldn't foot the whole bill myself, and I took a few years away because show designs had turned me off. I'm back, but still hanging by a thread, and I'm 20 years younger than the group I was going to finals with year in and year out...and we went during all of the "dark" years of the 90's. Personally, if I was close to San Anotnio, heat or no heat I'd be thrilled that it's out of a dome. I like 2/3 of the open roof proposal, I just think all corps should have that shot, not just the top 15. However, this is a fan forum, and where you have priase, you also have criticism. it seems it bothers you a lot. Do you get this offended by show reviews as well? Sorry, but you're going to have all sides presented here, the good and the bad. I'll give DCi props when they deserve it, as do many others on a variety of subjects. fan network? genius cinecast? genius evaluation process? long overdue genius dome? not genius not marketing better? not genius ( sorry Bob, but just the statement about the under armour says more could and should be done there...it's the new Nike) electronics? not genius. like amps, it's in it's infancy, and I expect it's usage will grow more prevalent, and since designers seem to emulate BOA, that's not a good thing. Personally, I would criticize what needed to be criticized. I would praise what needs to be praised. could be show design, could be a business move. When DCI succeeds at something, IMO, they do really well. When they fail at something, they crash and burn in horrible ways. And sometimes, their PR efforts to minimize that damage makes it worse. no the DCI office doesn't dictate show design and rules changes...but I think at times they should and could be ore vocal in stating their thoughts on those matters, in a way like DCA may do at times. One good thing DCI has done is the Janual meetings stuff on the fan network ( hint, you have to pay to see it...they don't give that content away for free, and some of that they should be). here I see an emphasis on the fans being discussed, and not just with fireworks and Miley Cyrus, but design, the dome, and other ideas. For this I praise DCI....I just wonder if it may be too little too late. if I had the cash, yes I'd have a corps on the field...my old corps. but it would be DCA because that's where their roots are. However, even corps that voted against some of things you mention like G bugles, amps etc, have gone with the flow. Why? Because, as Jeff Feidler said here in 2004, and was brought back up to show Mike D he was wrong in how it was "meant" you can't compete with one arm tied behind your back. drum corps has always about keeping up with the joneses. You don't do it, you're perceived as too stuck in the past, and you face a competitive disadvantage. is that true...I think in some ways yes, but the perception remains, and it can be harmful in many ways besides just the on field results. I'm ok with change, but I think too much too fast has been pushed thru the last 7 years...sometimes it seems like change for the sake of change, and not fully figured out. I could have told you...and did 7 years ago that letting sound be balanced from the field was a stupid decision. You just can't do it from field level....but here, finally 7 years later, they tweaked the sound guy rule again. will it work? I hope so, I'm tired of hearing pits cover up horns and sometimes drums and yet seeing 19's on the sheets. so maybe people complain. Sometimes, those complainers also have some great ideas, but those in power seem to think they do know better and ignore it. well guess what...DCI hasn't released numbers other than the tiny info the 990's give you. There's a lot more to that story than just a few big numbers, and if Indy is still as bad next year, if show designs and more electronics usage chases people away, i'm sure they'll have some nice numbers again...but it won't tell the whole story....sometimes the rest of the story can be told on here by the complainers you so love to talk down and deride. I'm here to tell you in those complaints is some great thoughts that should be pondered and listened to...it could make those numbers even better yet. You have posters on here that have years of experience at many levels of drum corps. Maybe we don't know "better", but maybe we know 'different", and different can be good instead of making the same mistakes over and over again just because you have the power, and those "legacy fans of 1975 RAMD" don't. those fans have been giving a ton of money for decades, and more and more of them are tired of doing so. One of the best speakers DCI has in it's midst made a great comment on the field pass...Cesario.....it's about getting new blood, yet retaining the old, and hating to see any fan leave. shame some of those directors make comments bashing those fans Michael so desperately wants to keep around. IMO, his perspective is more what needs to happen...and I'm hoping the Januals stuff online is a sign they are paying attention...or they face numbers that look like 1998 orlando again in the near future.
  15. amen Brother. listen close a cool but different than the 87 bass groove under the snares in Lezghinka
  16. there has been a show in New york the last two years that was actually billed as a Class A Regional, and some of the Southern shows also break it down between Open and A class.
  17. great point. At times, too many of the other corps mentioned here have "changed direction" and became a chamleoen corps...jazz one year, classical the next.....it can be a factor
  18. ok....but...I like both styles. so do many others. So why should I be denied seeing some of both?
  19. they'll work with anyone, and they have members coming in from as far away as VA.
  20. correction to my above post. there are some shows in which Class A is seperated from Open Class. and Tom, when the rule changed, i thought that with the June 1 date in place, nothing changed after that
  21. because it was decided that Class A only applies to finals weekend
  22. Bucs do recruit hard. I know I saw them at more than 5 band shows this fall, and I know they were at others, and they do a great job of building relationships with music educators in the area for recruiting...the educators and their students.Plus, they have a very loyal core group that have been there since Jimmy took over in the 90's. Those folks bleed blue, and they have a good working relationship with their alumni organization, which also helps.
