  1. schedule wise yeah closer to band. but you wont have guys Walt's age in your hornline next to you
  2. so it's not the economy, but yes DCA is cheaper.
  3. not in sales are you? didn't think so.
  4. DCP had a member who played tymp in a few pits while blind. darned if i can remember her name tho
  5. and eitheris bad for business. remember, the road to hell can be paved with good intentions. not that I want to keep beating DCI up over this, but you keep making excuses for it and trying to blow it off. This too ###### many people off. DCI can't afford to keep doing that.
  6. not every state has Ny's bingo laws. hell, even NY's bingo laws have gotten tougher. Plus with fundraising...remember, you're up against every school group, soccer league, little league, cheerleading group...you name it. the amount of competition for the fundraising dollar these days is incredible...especially when there aren't as many dollars to go around. a perfect example: i work in an office with 6 other people. Wednesday I brought in a fundraiser for the indoor drumline i teach. since then, my boss brought in something for his son's little league, his daughter's dance group, the guy next to me brought in something for his son's soccer league, a lady in here brought in something for her niece's indoor guard. the competition is intense. and the money isn't flowing. I wish all corps could have a bingo system like Empire does, but state laws don't allow it in most places.
  7. hate to tell you, but DCI isn't alienating the younger fan base as much as you think
  8. you should cut back. it'll stunt your growth
  9. honestly, I dont think you could be wrong. as DCA show design gets more like we see in DCI, and it is minus plugs and wires, I think it's appealing to more and more kids and the stigma of "old drunks" is finally wearing off. I also think that yes, DCA is a more financially sound option, and a great training center for kids who want to go to DCI someday. Thats how we approached things at Westshore.....training center and "retirement home". and..many DCA corps have really gotten their recruiting act together, and with a wealth of local talent involved teaching bands, it's bringing in kids where those folks teach. An approach we also used at Westshore. sigh...if only Jerry hadn't misused the checkbook the old DCI aint drum corps thing is old, and trust me, it's not what is pulling kids in.
  10. but as pointed out, usually isn't always.and if you intend to do a random survey, you don't tell people that contact you to expect the survey if you aren't 100% sure those folks are getting it. that's just..well..misleading.
  11. no offense...but any business that wants to be smart shouldn't tell people one thing, and then not deliver. thats not just a best business practice....that's just plain common sense. My experiences with DCI, as a former Friend and long time buyer shows they usually have this. I do think the LOS issues overwhelmed them. I won't disagree there. But if you're going to tell people to expect something, you should deliver.
  12. i emailed to so I could send to the guys that bought my tix since I couldn't go. never got a reply
  13. Bob is definitely not shy about being honest, even for a marketing guy let's face it....if you expected concrete fixes in place about the sound by now, you're living in another world. Remember, the building's main tenant is in season...you're athe mercy of their schedule. And to be honest, I wouldn't expect anything to be formally announced til spring. It takes time for many reasons 1) money...who is paying for what? What is DCI's share? Indy's share? Remember, while DCI knows fans are ######...they don't own the building. I hope tho, that if there are future issues, that the if the building is the one dragging their feet, they get held publicly accountable for it. Personally, if I were DCI ad Indy, I'd get BOA in on this too. 2) finding the right place to work on it. While there may only be, say 4/5 companies who excel in this field, you want to do due diligence and make sure you get the right one for the job. One can hope that cost is only a part of what determines the right one. 3) patience. My god we've become such a "fix it now" mentality in this country. Sorry gang....an issue of this magnitude isn't an easy fix. Sure inside DCI, you can get stuff moving fast, but it isn't DCI alone. You're also dealing with local and state politics, and who knows maybe even federal...and God knows we all know how slow things can go when waiting for politicians to get #### done even at a half ###ed level
  14. the Cowboys. Houstons kicker keeps choking
  15. it may affect attendance because people...not you or I, true fans who stay and watch everyone...would get tired of getting up and down, and #### of their neighbors. face it...DCI has 3 distinct types of fans: 1) friends and family....most of the time they watch all and support the corps they are tied to 2) diehards who watch everyone 3) star ####ers, who only watch the big guns watch quarters...see how it fills up slowly...but by the time the big guns come on, it's packed. hell Allentown suffers from this. Most shows do. if people in category 3 have to go in early to see #2, your crowd is a yo yo...big for some, small for others...or just smaller as people will hang out in the lot all night. if it's a yo-yo...you have many spectators ###### off because people come and go all night long and disturb them. and...random draw will force everyone's numbers to be lower and you risk pissing people off because they start with a 7.7 instead of an 8.2....and these days, it's all about each precious tenth and having as high a number as possible.
  16. 08 BD is easy to explain. look at the percussion and ensemble music scores.
  17. John and Bob well done. I look forward to seeing what else is discussed.
  18. i'm glad you had a great experience. However, your experience is heavily outweighted by those with the opposite view
  19. you'd still have the same discussion with ordinals...just like you still have in football...who's better? 75 Steelers or 85 Bears? or any sport
  20. if the judges are trained properly on the criteria of the sheet and are taught to understand and apply the value of a tenth correctly across all spectrums, then yes, .5 is .5 regardless of the name on the field. the question is, and this is a great suggestion to send to Mr. Jacobs for DCI direct is to find out if this is what is really done.
