  1. it works, and like i saw somewhere else on here, at times they are out Cavaliering the cavaliers
  2. wow...Crown missing a bass, and on VOD you cant tell unless you see the hole in the drill
  3. last year...with all the nods to great drum corps past, especially visually....was not respecting traditions?
  4. so, in your eyes, stating the obvious is bashing? sorry. it's called brutal honesty
  5. i'd love to send em something. I've also found myself unemployed twice in the last 4 months. save the lecture in these times anyone that can send in, will send in.
  6. oh sure i can't be there. that should be a show!!!
  7. that would send more than rumblings, in NJ but PA and DE as well.
  8. it'd be a great show i couldnt be at. grrrr
  9. there is more nostalgia, but it's all in hte marketing, and i dont see DCi doing anything other than the random alumni corps for finals week. funny tho how the biggest reaction of the week in 2002 in Madison was the Royal Airs performance
  10. exactly. my biggest fear is we get long electronics features, and the other instruments are silent, and we see more of that in BOA. I'm also very leery of hearing shows peppered with sound clips over music and long narratives where no music happens or covers the music.
  11. i'd harldy call Phantom with a title and a tie for a title the same song different verse
  12. there's more to GE than just digging it. if there are performance issues affecting the effect from being what it could be, then you wont see the score be as high as you'd like
  13. actually, Bridgemen did quite fine for several years after the DQ 1978 5 1979 6 1980 3 1981 6 1982 8 1983 11
  14. i know where it is...i also know how to "accidently" rip the cords out
  15. still amazd in this day and age a corps would own anything uninsured
  16. whew, not a dinosaur, just hating all the electronic crap here
  17. right which is why i said there has to be a compromise. one is not do this every week. the other, which to me is the most sensible, is saturday/sunday. especially in areas where there is a local corps, the promoter HAS to advertise it. to me, that was Dan's issue in Chambersburg....the local corps was 90 minutes away. Hershey drew well because it was usually a dca/dci lineup, plus, they did push Westshore when the corps warranted being pushed.
  18. you pretty much have it now, just on a smaller scale due to fewer corps. look at the schedule.....an eastern show, a midwest show, a west show, sometimes you luck out and see two shows in one of those regions. but with fewer corps it doesnt look as pronounced and corps are more willing to travel out of region earlier on. Plus, it seems like corps take more rehearsal only days here and there, and the season has been a week shorter for a while.
  19. because honestly, a big part of the marketing to the newer generations is anything old sucks. not just in drum corps, but in life
  20. i see your point Fred. But.....looking at it from the staffs viewpoint, in a competitive arena...2 hours is a HUGE part of the day. when you look at how little time DCA corps get with their folks, two hours can be a huge amount of time. a compromise would be maybe an every other week kind of thing, but every week would be too disruptive. think about this for a second: get to show site via car, bus however. unpack, set up warm up, start ensemble or sectionals probably have to stop for lunch, load up go to wherever performance may be unload, play load up go back and unload start to rehearse again stop, eat load up go perform again load up head home. it's VERY disruptive in the day, and really there isnt enough time to truly rehearse when you factor in all the loading/unloading re warming up, etc. it may pay some bills, but will the corps actually get any better?
  21. exactly Don. I remember my dad doing week nights at Shore and even with Baltimore tho he wasnt really local for them. Hell, by my last year, it was tough to even have a mid week sectional for a 6 person section due to distances. And, to be honest, in a lot of ways Sundays after shows can be unproductive, becuase you bust ### on new stuff or tweaks all day...then you go home for a week. best thing we ever did at Westshore was in 95, we stopped doing Sundays once shows started unless we had a show that day. Friday nights were intense and we wasted no time on Saturday.
