  1. 1) its part of the pit. 2) at field level, really, the best you can do is discuss timing within the front ensemble and maybe if you hear bad notes. upstairs you'd be able to discuss volume/balance, timing within the big picture, ge would allow for discussion for how it helps with effects, etc 3) i'd imagine they do 4) other caption heads? you mean sheets outside of percussion? ge music, ensemble music.
  2. she's home, but i wouldnt have been there anyways. Donnie swears the next time i set foot at Buc field the Earth will end, so I dont wanna kill us all
  3. how is it not trashing the motivations of a 25 year old when the fact is the kid quit because she wanted time off to attend to a very ill family member? IMO, thats basically making fun of her request to do the RIGHT thing many kids today wouldn't do. Not only is it insulting to see that email go out, that YEA wouldnt do the right thing and give the kid the time off is even worse. I #### well guarantee you all if it was Hop's parent, he'd take the time. and i wouldnt fault him for doing it.
  4. not even in the magazines of the day or in the parking lots, because, even then, attendance wasnt shrinking
  5. and thats ok. but to compare something that has been a national organization since 1972 to a circuit that was pretty much regional until 2004 is apples and oranges. dca has shown that with careful planning and caution, you can grow a national organization. dci has shown that sometimes with careful planning and occasional caution, you can shrink a national organization
  6. if i am mistaken, someone correct me, but, by 2002, attendance had begun going back up after bottoming out in the mid 90s. i do remember Dan at the Friends of DCI luncheon in 2002 announcing that for the first time in a while, over 20,000 tickets had been SOLD for finals night.
  7. of course than fan base is larger right now. DCA has just gotten corps going recently in areas where they were never in before. and..IMO...some marketing by DCI made DCA look not attractive, so in these areas, the perception of old drunks stumbling around the field didnt help. granted...until recently at times DCA didnt help itself at times. but it didnt help that DCI pretty much ( and with some corps still do) talked about senior corps like it was worthless
  8. thanks. she is healing well and my boss didnt fire me
  9. actually since amps went in, DCA HAS grown in number of corps. the last year DCI was unplugged, 17 corps attended DCA championships, and we know of a few corps that were out there but didnt come in..i'll guess roughly 21 overall. now, have 25 coming to DCA weekend, and probably a good 10 corps out there not coming in. thats 10 corps growth in 6 years. there are shows now in areas that NEVER had DCA sponsored competition. the upper midwest. Florida. Georgia. Tennessee. Texas. i can think of 6 shows DCi used to run locally not that long ago that are now gone because the current touring model basically killed them off. how many dci corps have gone away in that time?
  10. guess what. the majority of legacy fans arent asking for a return to the 70s. we're asking for a return to drum corps with no plugs or wires of any type. thats the part so many gloss over. it isnt a return to 1970. it's a return to all acoustic drum and bugle corps.
  11. every drum break looking like the build up to an ensemble moment from a wgi show with all kinds of forced body moves underneath for the sake of doing them
  12. heal up! my mom just had a sudden trip to the hospital too!
  13. did not trash her? see this line: "BUT, there is no accounting for the logic and action of a 25 year old." the logic of a 25 year old to attend to a very ill family member is, IMO, AWESOME logic.
  14. Mike the audience of 1975 is his classic dig at anyone opposed to the changes he pushes. because if you arent with his ideas, you're "old school" and here you have classic examples of 80s and 90s folks not liking what he wants to become
  15. and the sum of changes over time til 2004 went over well.
  16. well, i am glad he found it as my night was spent at the hospital attending to my mom. thanks audiobob
  17. actually i do know. the first poster to mention the details was spot on. and moms surgery went well, thank you all. even better my boss told me to take all the time i needed if she's in for a while
  18. i'll say this, then i'll go back to my moms hospital room. i know some stuff about this situation. the girl had family ill in England. to me, especially in an organization that preaches family, some understanding could have been shown. because at noon today when i found out my mother had cystemic (spelling?)mass and we were waiting to see what the next step is, my boss told me to go do what I had to do, family always comes first.
  19. so a family member being very ill is not ok?
  20. when i get home tonight i'll gladly dig up what I can, altho I know it was in releases dci put out and I think Hop himself used it. for now i must go attend to an ill family member, and the good news, i wont be fired or have a mass email sent out abut it by my boss
  21. ok quick question to follow up something a few pages back. is it true that the person really left because a family member was ill? to me, that kind of love should be honored and respected
