  1. nope, ask Dan Rippon of 5 Star,............I saw them in Erie for RCA championships in 75 and 76, definitely York, PA,.............says so in the program book I'm looking at now,..................... York started as a junior corps, Bill Toomey DM, and some drill guy known as Rich Templin in the sop line. Not sure when they officialy went senior.
  2. 92 prelims. Bush in a zone few corps, DCI or DCA, ever reach. one of my all time top 3 DCA shows i wasn't a part of.
  3. OMG Sgt Steve. he still have chops? and no, I saw him at the store Rick. he looked great.
  4. as i sit here and watch Metheny Play In Her Family on PBS as we speak..... I remember the first time I saw Bush. mechanicsburg PA, July i believe 1982. At first Dad thought they were Bayonne clones. half way thru their show he looked at me and said "til you get to march(i was 13) you'll be fighting these guys for the top spot." ####, dad's a prophet.
  5. Remember rehearsal that day in Pittsburgh? On the grounds of the then Western PA Psychiatric Hospital . . complete with patients as an audience, who, well, actually decided at some point that it would be fun to be a part of the Westshoremen on the practice field!!! Who scored that facility, I don't know - but at least it was memorable! ah Smoothieville West ( those w/Crossmen ties will get that) the best was the guy w/the huge indian feather in his hat. When we asked him where he got it, he just started doing Indian war calls.
  6. hey Rick, i saw your father in law this weekend. you andhe both need to do the alumni corps. and for those that may not know, Rick's father in law is Jerry Johnson, who played sop for the corps for alot of years. his first wife( RIP Betty) was my first babysitter too!
  7. that's why i was happy to move up to bass 1 by the end of my days. let the younger, crazier...well ok not crazier but stupid kids carry the big drum :P
  8. DCA went to the current Saturday-Sunday format in 1989. One of the best moves the circuit has ever made, IMO. Jim, you're right.... the prelims-and-finals-on-the-same-day format was not easy on the corps. It was real tough to do a great performance in both shows, especially if there was a quick turnaround time between a corps' prelims and finals performances. Fran 88 was to be the first year i believe but mother nature kinda rained on that parade.
  9. Paul was at the first alumni rehearsal. he was looking for an extra bass spot but, um, we didnt have any
  10. i looked in Jodeen Popp's history books, she has more about ICA, RCA's follow up circuit than RCA
  11. oh here we go. 100 versions and and stories of what happened, who's at fault etc. i dunno if this is the part of old stories i love most or hate most
  12. 1990, Piitsburgh I think. After the show we're having a corps meeting, going over the agenda for the next few weeks. car drives by yelling. director says "they come by again, get em" they did. and 128 people gave chase. they went from 10 to 80 really fast :P
  13. 1995, Cumberland MD. back when the back gate had the gates that swung into the post in the middle. We're lined up for Olympic retreat....won't name the corps to our left, Kilties on the right. Now, Shore's drumline was known for being intense. We didn't move, we didn't flinch, we didn't BS. We stood there and glared. usually while chaos ensued around us. Corps to our left decides to be..well...######## ot our female bass player. specifically their tenors. Kilties tipped myself and bass #2 to this, we waited patiently. As we got close to the gates, we slid left, and paced ourselves to be even with their tenors, who continued to be ########. and boom, all 4 tenors met cast iron gate as bass #2 and i showed them not to mess w/our girl. did you know that tenors hitting gate doesnt make a pretty sound? :P
  14. wow. my rookie year was 89. yet i stories back to 1962 lol. thanks dad!
  15. i so wish you could meetDeb Werth. she played bass 3 in Westshore in 95 and 96 and could play with anyone. She chose bass cause bass rocks. but then again, you probably dont look past the snare line. this woman was too cool....she'd shower w/the guys just cause she believed in bass bonding.
  16. 78 rocked. Imagine that kind of fluctuation now....people would freak out if they didnt know the winner in July
  17. OMG that was you? Thurston told us about this in 90 when he came up to Westshore for a weekend
  18. ah 79 North Stah. that drumline was in ####### credible.
  19. btw guys expect to find this thread in the new Historical Forum very soon.
