  1. Pioneer is also participating! Please help the corps continue to provide a great experience to our members! http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiving/charities/237424374-pioneer-drum-and-bugle-corps-inc?src=charity_share&ref=nf
  2. As proud alum and member of the staff, though not as a teacher, I am impressed with the work that the staff is doing this season and how well they work together as a team, the best that we've had in several seasons. As a result, the members are improving daily and have improved 9 points in 9 days. On the staff vehicle each night, the teachers work to plan the details of the next day and how they can improve skills, performance and scores. These goals are set to help the corps be competitive; if they weren't trying to move up in the rankings, why would they work so hard for our members? It is important to realize that in any situation, not everybody is going to agree with everything that is decided. This is natural, and it's how all organizations work. Roman has kept the corps alive for fifty years -- a feat that nearly 2,000 other corps have not been able to do. Has he made all the right decisions? Probably not -- nobody can. Has he positively influenced thousands of people? Absolutely. Will this corps be around for another 50 years to influence thousands more? You bet.
  3. Pioneer is at Centerville High School, about an hour south of Muncie.
  4. Also in there are the first (Seventeen Come Sunday) and third (Folk Songs from Somerset) movements of Ralph Vaughan Williams' English Folk Song Suite.
  5. I am a proud Pioneer alumnus that marched for the experience. It was (and continues to be) my second home.
  6. Camp is only three days away! Please make sure that you have RSVP'd so that we know how many to expect. The link is found on the left column of the main page at www.Pioneer-Corps.org. Camp is looking to be a good one to us. Please make sure that you have downloaded, printed and practiced the audition materials. We will have auditions on Saturday evening. Show music is also available from the audition materials section of the website as well. The new Prospective Member Brochure is available for all members to read. It answers a lot of questions and includes some changes from years past. It is available from the main page as well. FREE transportation to and from both O'Hare and Milwaukee General Mitchell Airports is provided. On Friday evening, the bus leaves O'Hare at 6:00 at General Mitchell at 7:30 If you have any questions, please make sure to contact the office. Contact is available from the website. You are also welcomed to PM me. See you on Friday!
  7. Music and recordings of the intro and opener are up! http://pioneer-corps.org/join-the-corps/au...ls/7-brass.html
  8. We are staying at Crispus Attucks High School. St. Clair has been good to us so far... great people, food and rehearsals. I've been with the corps for six years now, and while we may not be in the top tier competitively, I am grateful to be a part of this corps. Sure, I wouldn't mind if the corps was a little higher in the rankings, but as a teacher I agree with the mission of the corps. Better Every Day!
  9. While 49th year in DCI may be incorrect, the corps has been competing since 1961 as the Imperials of Saint Patrick before merging with the Cedarburg Thunderbolts in 1973 (which actually had been around since 1953, I believe). After a year of competing as The Thing in 1973, the corps began being sponsored by the Pioneer Box and Container Company in 1974 and adopted the name "Pioneer" that same year. So you are partially correct: Pioneer itself has only been competing for 37 years as of 2010, but the organization has been around since 1961 (and before). Back on topic, I'm really excited to hear about the program and listen to the music. I think this could be a great thing for the corps: getting away from the Irish music while keeping true to the corps heritage in using the corps prayer as the basis for the show. I really look forward to seeing what the corps can do this year!
  10. Pioneer still has a few spots in most sections. We are especially looking for top trumpets and baritones in the hornline and ladies for the colorguard. The percussion sections are close to being set, but we are still looking for a few qualified percussionists to round out the sections. Pioneer is a great place to spend the summer. We're really looking to step it up this year in terms of show design and competition. We are striving to make it to semi-finals and so far, all of the staff and members are on board and ready to do what it takes to make it to Friday night. We will march at least 52 brass and 25-30 guard ladies. We just need you to make it happen! For more information, visit pioneer-corps.org or call the office at 414-327-2847. You can also private message me if you would like.
  11. 1.) Thanks for your input. I encourage you to give the office a call at (414) 327- 2847 or email them from our website and let them know your concerns. We always like to know how to improve our corps, though Roman does have his opinions on how. I would guess that if enough people (probably a huge amount, however) expressed the same concern, something might be done eventually. 2.) I personally liked the uniforms that I began with (new plaid sash with orange sequins and black pants) and like the new ones as well, though I agree that they are a bit cookie-cutter. I don't however like the hats as much as Roman. I would prefer the aussies. 3.) The sequins are orange, not red, to go with the corps colors of green, orange and white. 4.) Black pants/gauntlets and forest green sleeves = gross color mismatch. 5.) You should come out to our camp this weekend at Cudahy High School in Cudahy, Wisconsin and watch us rehearse. We'll be there from tonight at 8 pm CST until Sunday afternoon at 4pm CST.
  12. Yes, there will be auditions in two locations on the same day. There are also audition camps in Florida and Texas in the works for the month of November. The first full corps camp will be December 12-14 in Wisconsin.
  13. Pioneer will have: 3 buses 2 semis 1 staff sleeper (28') 1 souvie trailer/van
  14. Thank you! That truly means a lot to someone who has put fours years into the organization.
  15. Bugles are conical bored instruments while trumpets are cylindrical bored. Trumpets have a narrower bell than soprano bugles. Range is easier on the Bb trumpet. Bugles are bad ###.
  16. Camp should begin on Friday, the 23rd. Move-ins will be that weekend when we begin our housing at the Youth Hostel at the Milwaukee fairgrounds. Don't miss this year for Pioneer! It's going to be great!
  17. Things are looking good in Milwaukee! Come check us out! *Bump*
